thewavelength··on Ported my C game to WASM, here's every bug that I hit
Thanks!

1: True, although it also limits the addressable memory and the typical 4GB limit seems less these days. I’m thinking of large apps like Figma running in the browser.

2: Will existing 32-bit WASM binaries break on WASM64 engines or does the binary have a flag for compatibility?

thewavelength··on Ported my C game to WASM, here's every bug that I hit
Why is a relatively new technology like WASM being limited to 32-bit pointers? Why repeat the same mistake again?

> Web is 32-bit. Your 64-bit structs will break. This was the root cause of most of my bugs. WASM is 32-bit address space, pointers are 4 bytes not 8.

I need this without knowing before that I needed this. Makes me question why this wasn’t implemented years ago. Anyway, great.
thewavelength··on Removable batteries in smartphones will be mandatory in the EU starting in 2027
TIL. Thanks for letting me know.
thewavelength··on Removable batteries in smartphones will be mandatory in the EU starting in 2027
Because I lose the manufacturer-provided five-year-guarantee if I don't.
thewavelength··on Removable batteries in smartphones will be mandatory in the EU starting in 2027
I just called the shop to replace the perfectly fine e-Call battery in my soon four year old Hyundai car. 250€ to change a battery that has a ten year lifespan. I am not allowed to replace it on my own as it would invalidate the five year long guarantee provided by the manufacturer (not the one by law). Why is this stuff not considered as well?

Also curious whether the "specialized devices" exemptions are AND requirements. Even if those are AND, wouldn’t smartphone manufacturers try to satisfy all three of them?

The ad in the footer of the page is the same ever since.

Note: not meant to mock, I find this truly amazing.

Thank you for the fast reply.

Remote-friendly means US-remote-friendly? Or worldwide?

Also, the listing says [0]. Does this mean I can't work as a non-US-citizen / I need a security clearance of some sort?

thewavelength··on Ask HN: iOS e-mail App with customizable “From” field?
Just tested it. I can't save the new account in the Mail settings when I leave the incoming credentials blank :-/ It works when I add the real IMAP account though. And the Mail app seems to be clever enough to not duplicate everything in the combined Inbox view. Thanks, at least that's a tradeoff.
thewavelength··on Ask HN: iOS e-mail App with customizable “From” field?
Thanks, good to know! If I can't find any other solution I will think about this.
thewavelength··on Ask HN: Why does YouTube not offer a download button?
Ads, most probably.

Technical question: when I send over my DNS requests to you (do I actually do that?), aren't those requests unencrypted going over the internet so everybody can sniff on which pages I visit?
thewavelength··on Show HN: The Most Explosive Modal on the Web
The opening of the modal is being pushed to Browser history. This confuses me as I don't expect modals to be in the history.

Is this caused the way it is achieved with CSS only or is this actually wanted?

thewavelength··on Show HN: Ctxt.io – share context of whatever you see with others in seconds
Wow, didn't know that the usage of Firefox is that low. Thanks for clarification - makes sense.
thewavelength··on Show HN: Ctxt.io – share context of whatever you see with others in seconds
I still don't get it. Every page I try to contextify (wat) is looking like pasted in a 1999 WYSIWYG editor. How do you all get the correct styling etc with you? I'm using Firefox with uBlock and Disconnect.

Example page: https://www.golem.de/ticker/ - I tried to copy some listed links but they just look like standard Times New Roman after contextification: https://ctxt.io/2/AAAAAPxhEA

Anyway, nice idea. I have ever used screenshots so far.

thewavelength··on Show HN: NoFile.io – A simple file storage site with lots of perks
Great design & feature set.

Feedback: the navigation bar at the top is quite unusable from an UE point of view. The positions of the icons (and therefore the hovering position) change as the mouse hovers them. It is quite annoying.

Also, in the FAQ: "How can this be a free service? Magic" This sounds to me as: "stfu, don't ask, you are not clever enough to understand" or "there is some dirty way to get money from you, better don't ask".

thewavelength··on 68 things the CLR does before executing a single line of your code
Is there a way to embed multiple, independent DLLs into one host application with the possibility to reload/unload DLLs in .NET Core? I didn't find a way yet because .NET Core does not seem to support the AppDomain concept.
thewavelength··on Hackers Have Stolen Millions of Dollars in Bitcoin Using Only Phone Numbers
Anyway, the wallet was password protected. Still don't get it.
thewavelength··on Why do you use Firefox?
Does someone has also issues with heavy-loaded JavaScript pages, e. g. using React or Angular? It's a pain to use/scroll on those sites. The most awful website I know using it is Facebook. It is so damn laggy, even with uBlock and Disconnect enabled. When I start having more than one Facebook tab open (together with WhatsApp Web) I sometimes grow the will to switch to Chrome. I could resist yet because I don't like Google's approach for restrictive extension web store.
