However NYC's transit is notoriously bad at spending, so not sure it would achive that. Which studies linked in this thread are you refering to? I cant see them.
Are Yale's media releases typically done by the people who do the study?
it seems clear to me that the downside of society having a bad scientist is relatively low, so long as theres a gap between low quality science and politics [0], while the upside is huge.
in a sense, although buy is not quite the right word. there were grants promised to chip manufacturers under certian conditions. trump decided to wave those conditions just for intel in exchange for 10% of the company.
> Does that dilute the share other intel stock owners have?
no, the shares were already existing and owned by intel.
What led you to belive it wasnt about the UAW? just the name of the event?
you are both agreeing that where the fuels come from matters. If you want to burn fossil fuels in a manner to keep atmospheric carbon neutral using the approach specified in
> Why would growing corn for ethanol and burning it in an engine be any climate-friendlier than growing that same corn for food and burning an equivalent amount of gasoline in an engine?
then the correct approach would be
> Why would growing corn for ethanol and burning it in an engine be any climate-friendlier than growing that same corn for *burying in the ground* and burning an equivalent amount of gasoline in an engine?
unless i am misunderstanding these two comments? some clarity would be great!
its a broader group to convince, sure, but there is a clear 'or else' from which the court can get that legitimacy. 'return the money or else we will return it for you' is a meaningful or else
I don't know what Nate Silver was predicting. Was he predicting a near-split election or the situation where "someone is decently likely to win decisively, but we don't know who"?
the most likely result predicted by 538 was 312 for trump [0]
the issue with the model was the 2nd most likely result was 319 for harris.
they thought the odds of a recount being decisive was around 10%.
That hardly seems evidence of "predicting a split election". which prediction are you thinking of?

That's why China intervened?
I am not sure what exactly you are suggesting here, but its hard to believe that a nuclear war against china (and likely the USSR) in 1951 as MacArthur seemed to believe was necessary to recover North Korea would have been a net positive.
Using Galileo as the standard of the suppression of free thought is sorta painting the Church as overzealously standing up for good science, not highlighting the Church as an enemy of truth.

The link is unfortunately broken, but if anyone has more details that would be fascinating.
For a defense of the 'unicorns in unexplored forests', that was pretty much the approach that led to the discovery of most of the standard model.
Plus, given dark matter and dark energy, we know something must be out there, even if its not unicorns, there's something.

It seems they couldn't confirm if burglaries were prevented or merely moved the burglaries to low gun zipcodes, but they felt they had weak evidence for a drop in burglaries in total
Approving less effective medications could definitely explain the improvement placebos relative to drugs, but not the improvement of placebos relative to placebos.
I wonder, and as I am kinda young, I am not sure, but since 1990, has the experience of the "Doctors Office" become more standardized? As in, are placebos looking less* like placebos?
