thesuitonym··on Someone has decompiled the Adobe suite, rebuilt in Rust and released it as OSS
lol yeah you're right but the OPs link doesn't really add anything to the discussion.

Why link to some dude's bluesky instead of to the original source? https://getartcraft.com/apps

What a silly question, Google has never cared about users.
thesuitonym··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
Please. I am begging EV manufacturers to just make a normal car. The body looks fine but why does every EV have to have the absolute worst cabin ever designed?
thesuitonym··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
This is the problem with the world these days. People just don't care about anything anymore.
thesuitonym··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
What an insane take. We've been able to monitor our vehicles almost as long as we've had vehicles. You know when you turn your car on and all those pretty lights come up? That's not just because it looks cool.
thesuitonym··on 'That's so AI ' What gen Alpha's biggest insult tells us
I think it will create two media economies. One economy of garbage slopware made for and by companies and people who don't care about anything, and one for people who actually find enjoyment from the process of creation, not from whatever polished turd comes out the end.
thesuitonym··on 'That's so AI ' What gen Alpha's biggest insult tells us
People give 4chan far too much credit. Slop was a term that was used, maybe not widely, well before it was picked up by internet racists. Slop was used to refer to the stuff you'd feed to pigs, and if you were American, school children.
thesuitonym··on 28% of job postings on company career sites have been open over 90 days
This is exactly why hiring is such a mess, lazy managers who don't want to repost job listings or put any effort into hiring. Job seekers need to apply to thousands of jobs because they have no way of knowing if a company is actually hiring. Which means hiring managers (who we have already established are lazy) now are incentivised to find ways to not look at resumes.

I feel like a lot of the problems in our world would be fixed by RIoTS.
thesuitonym··on SAML: A fractal of bad design
Sites don't get hacked because it's easier to social engineer a persons password.

Here's a crazy thought, you could just talk to your elderly family members.

The R in IoT stands for reliability.
thesuitonym··on I said no and Apple said yes
This is an absolutely insane question and it really shows how much mobile phones have warped reality. Until smart phones came along it was actually the norm to be able to install other operating systems on your PC.
thesuitonym··on I said no and Apple said yes
I've been a Linux and BSD user for nearly 20 years, and you will take them from my cold, dead hands, but sometimes Linux is just not an option.
thesuitonym··on I said no and Apple said yes
By way of example, Debian has a stable branch which receives only security fixes, and even then, only if you run the update scripts. It will receive security updates for 5 years, and after that, will still be completely usable, provided you don't want new versions of software, or are willing to put in the work to compile them yourself.

Maybe so, the point is there is a non-zero number of creators who already do sbarre thinks is too onerous.
thesuitonym··on Spain orders blocks on Archive.today and its mirrors
I should hope you remember the Internet, it's still there. It may come as a surprise to you, but the whole reason the WWW works is because of the Internet, that's how you're able to see this web site!

> Should anyone deviate from the EU leftist narrative they will be fined, disconnected, imprisoned or all three.

Big government censorship and surveillance capitalism are actually right-wing ideologies.

thesuitonym··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
I remember those days, and when Cartoon Network was the same. I didn't mind it then because, like you, I found the promos were a great way to know what was on the channel at different times. Especially in the age before on-screen guides.

But there are a few crucial differences between then and now: The ad spots were there to keep the timetables accurate, which is no longer necessary. They also served as a way to let you know what else was on the channel, which again is no longer necessary because that app opens to a menu of all available programming. And, now this is the important part, back then I wasn't specifically paying for ad-free access.

Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is, my Jellyfin server is about to get much more use.

The closest I've found is Bitwarden, but even that isn't quite as good as 1Password.
thesuitonym··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
All creators that are on Nebula already upload sponsor-free versions there.
thesuitonym··on Disney+: New user agreement allows ads before movies in all subscriptions
uBlock Origin + SponsorBlock is the only way YouTube is even remotely watchable these days. Even still, it's not really worth it. I frequently find it better to spend my time doing anything else.
thesuitonym··on ZuckOff is a free app that sees Meta glasses before they see you
And what happens when some bad actor actively monitors for that signal and seeks out the people who have it? And why does it require carrying my surveillance device to tell others I don't want to be surveilled?
thesuitonym··on ZuckOff is a free app that sees Meta glasses before they see you
You can't do it with technology alone (or really at all). It has to be the law that does this.
thesuitonym··on I vibed a proof of Conway's conjecture
And before those code monkeys were making money, we called them skiddies.
thesuitonym··on I don't like passkeys
This is something that Apple really got right. My kids can initiate any kind of purchase they want (At least, those that are allowed based on Screen Time controls) but every purchase stops and waits for approval from me or my wife. Even if the item is free. No faffing about with credits, or extra cards, or setting limits.
thesuitonym··on I don't like passkeys
Passkeys are awesome if you're one person, with one account, on one device. As soon as any of those three aren't true, they're a huge pain in the ass.
thesuitonym··on How to Write with an LLM
Or to put it another way: Why should I be interested in reading something you weren't interested in writing?
thesuitonym··on Ask HN: How to recover Google auth after phone stolen?
It's not a dumb question, but there isn't any single answer. It depends on what protections you have on your iCloud account. For most users, if you've lost your phone, but remember your iCloud password and have a new phone with the same number, you can get in. It's made even easier if you have another device already signed in, such as a laptop.
