thesorrow··on Introducing Dagger Functions
I've been using dagger to test different versions of pgsql against my app. This is something very hard to do with plain DockerFile. So far the DX of Dagger is really pleasant !
thesorrow··on Show HN: Togomak – declarative pipeline orchestrator based on HCL and Terraform
Is this similar to Dagger[1] ?

thesorrow··on Firefox and Fastly take another step toward a privacy upgrade for the internet
You can disable the configuration in the `network.trr.use_ohttp` field. It's already disabled on my Firefox 118.0.1 (NixOS 23.05)
thesorrow··on Streamlink: Plugins.twitch: no playable streams on this url
From the issue :

Twitch killed all third party tools and adblockers by this recent change, this is the response of the GQL (where the playlist is fetched) of anyone using streamlink
thesorrow··on Saving Energy: Home Server That Automatically Suspends to RAM and Wakes Up Again
I use an old Intel Macbook to selfhost this kind of services. The idle draw is around 2W and you get a free UPS if your battery is still working.

The sleep management on macOS is really well done and you don't even need a magic packet to wake the computer. You can configure `pmset` to wake on modem access (ring).

thesorrow··on GPU Video acceleration in the Windows Subsystem for Linux now available
virgl/video will soon be available in Mesa for linux kvm too [1].

thesorrow··on Alpine Linux: Brilliant Linux Distro
postmarketOS is based on Alpine Linux and it's the perfect choice for a lightweight mobile OS.
thesorrow··on In search of a better job scheduler
You can create systemd timers and services quite easily with NixOS configuration : https://nixos.wiki/wiki/Nix_Cookbook
thesorrow··on Superhuman and the Productivity Meta-Layer
I remember Mozilla having a lab project in 2009 called Raindrop [1].

"Raindrop is a messaging application building on Apache's CouchDB which is used through a web interface. Raindrop works by collecting messages (currently emails and tweets, but more will be available through addons) and storing them as JSON optionally with attachments in CouchDB."

thesorrow··on Tabula Scripta: A spreadsheet for small data-driven apps
Can you self-host it and keep your data to yourself ?
thesorrow··on On Privacy versus Freedom
Email is flawed and will become a one way protocol to receive spam, newsletters and invoices just like paper mail. I think Matrix is our second chance to build a secure federated communication suite. So far it's going in the right direction...
thesorrow··on Nbdev: Use Notebooks for Everything
Looks great ! I don't know If you use Apache Airflow in ML or ETL pipelines but I wonder if one could use nbdev to generate Airflow Dags/Operator. There's already some work done to execute Notebooks[0] but would be cool to convert them to Python code!

thesorrow··on Wikipedia’s co-founder takes on Facebook with ad-free social network
I wonder if ActivityPub or some sort of federation is on the roadmap
thesorrow··on PHP-FPM remote code execution bug exploited in the wild
FYI : If you have a NextCloud or Owncloud installation. The recommended nginx configuration is vulnerable [1]

thesorrow··on PHP-FPM remote code execution bug exploited in the wild
I'm sure a lot of PHP 7.0 installations are still in production and will not receive a patch...
thesorrow··on Ghost 3.0
If ActivityPub is the next big feature count me in !
thesorrow··on Ghost 3.0
I wonder if taking the JAMStack route won't prevent you to become a real alternative to Medium by making ActivityPub (federation) implementation harder ?
thesorrow··on How to Make Billions of Dollars Reducing Loneliness
Apps want to do too much. Maybe we need apps that let us do our part as human. I don't want to have every match possible presented to me but I'd love to have a notification saying "5 friends down your street are actually going out and are okay to include some new people. One of them loves 80's synth music just like you". After that you decide but you'll have the opportunity to get true IRL interactions...
thesorrow··on Guix Workflow Language
I'm using Airflow for a lot of critical tasks and it works really well. But I agree that Python may not be the best language to implement a workflow engine.
thesorrow··on Mozilla patches Firefox zero-day abused in the wild
How to know if you have been infected ?
thesorrow··on Belly.io – Curated List of Programming Coding Streamers
Yeah I used to love the Programming category
thesorrow··on ZFS on Linux 0.8.0
Great work. Finally no more LUKS inside my ZVOLs :)
thesorrow··on I'm one of the inventors of RSS and I need your help to reboot the Internet
How a reboot of the internet involve using an electron app ?
thesorrow··on France Enters the Matrix
I agree. One could use the Matrix specs to build some sort of message queue (using rooms) where human (text, markdown) and machine (json-ld) could communicate and interact..
thesorrow··on OpsMop – Config management and app deployment from the creator of Ansible
I may be late to realize this but Python is becoming a mandatory language to master for DevOps people.

I guess it's time to learn ...

thesorrow··on Mailit: A Tiny Drop-In REST API to Send Emails
The total opposite of this project would be way more useful :

A sendmail replacement that can call a REST / Webhook endpoint. You'll get free alerting directly from crontab/smartd/zfs to your monitoring / logging system

thesorrow··on JSON-LD and Why I Hate the Semantic Web
I'm experimenting something using "noise" the new database from Damien Katz (CouchDB). I can feed JSON-LD document and query them. Very useful for microservices because each services only need to know one part of the overall schema/data model
thesorrow··on Show HN: Contextual – Personal task management based on GTD principle
Nice project ! What kind of business model are you planning ?
thesorrow··on Show HN: Boostnote – An open-source note taking app designed for programmers
Since it's for programmers. I expected some code tangling ala orgmode..
thesorrow··on Emacs org-mode examples and cookbook
I'm surprised that no one tried to replicate this in electron yet. Outlining alone is really powerfull and would be a great fit for a web based app !
