therockspush··on 179 Arrested in Global Dark Web Takedown
a buddy of mine got asthma when the smoke was bad a few years in the bay area. The doctor requires a chest xray every year to renew the subscription.
therockspush··on ACLU sues Palo Alto over ‘unconstitutional’ restrictions at residents-only park
Opal Cliffs used to do this. It was dumb, considering you could just walk down the beach or paddle down.

therockspush··on ACLU sues Palo Alto over ‘unconstitutional’ restrictions at residents-only park
The road up to mt umunhum used to be gated off, even though it was paid for with gov money. It was always a hot spot for bikers. Ask any local ones that rode up there in the past and they probably have a story of a shotgun getting pulled on them.
therockspush··on Bullshitters: Who Are They and What Do We Know about Their Lives? (2019) [pdf]
so true, but its not just executives that get fooled. there's a whole company full of adjacent people, sales, marketing, finance, that fall for this bullshit too.

they add to this dust storm of fud that allows these people to exist.

therockspush··on How to form a California LLC without a lawyer
the value of the llc or s-corp is the corporate veil. whether or not thats worth the $800 annual charge in CA, on top of other inconveniences, is the question.
therockspush··on Amazon Spent $24,000 to Kill Portland's Facial Recognition Ban
24k?? Those city council members should be ashamed of themselves. They could have gotten a lot more.
therockspush··on Jedi: We will continue to protest this politically corrupted contract award
I remember the Air Force Tanker deal, with the civilian official running the most obvious palm-greasing ever.

therockspush··on Supercomputer analysis of Covid-19 leads to new theory
The title has it all. Supercomputer, covid, theory.

Hard to question that.

therockspush··on Bardcore
This is great.

I can picture a group of medieval brutes sharpening their blades around a fire listening to the toxicity version, getting amped up before a castle raid.

therockspush··on Remote Work Is Killing the Hidden Trillion-Dollar Office Economy
I'm wondering whats going to happen to all these sprawled out empty campuses, the miles of diabolically ugly 2-3 story buildings in santa clara.

I'd love them to become free range stock farms, with animals shitting on the carpets and in the lobby fountain. Or paintball ranges with a prebuilt post-apocalyptic office setting.

When they've been used up, doze em and put in a wavetank or something.

therockspush··on Rival powers jockey for the lead in hypersonic aircraft
initially glazed over the article looking for mentions of Boom or Aerion, then i realized this was about hypersonic.

i didnt know hypersonic was like twice as super as supersonic.

therockspush··on Nascar: The Science of Racing Safely
Flyin Ryan, thats great. I like no-neck newman
therockspush··on Tech my dad banned in our house when I was a kid
Portlandia studio guy is a good spoof on gear heads. People that think they have to buy the right amp or classic guitar before they can write their masterpiece.

I like that line from the departed, "im an artist, give me a fucking tuber, ill get you something out of it."

therockspush··on California short on firefighting crews after Covid-19 lockdown at prison camps
Slave labor, but I would volunteer if I was locked up.

I'm sitting here on my couch smelling the smoke wondering how I can go up there and help. Total Rambo fantasies of me up there with an ax and a bandana fighting those fires and doing something heroic with my life.

therockspush··on Wildfires in Big Basin Redwoods State Park
This one hurts. I've put in a lot of hours up there camping and hiking. I was just talking with someone about how you used to be able to go up there on a whim and snag a last minute campsite. Even if it was next to some jackass running his TV and microwave it was still fun.

Any area you go into up there shows the fire damage those trees have survived over the years.

I'll miss the old-timey HQ cabin and cafe but I'm counting on a good recovery here.

therockspush··on Regional Air Mobility: Why we don’t plan to operate flights under 20km
There's a bunch of these companies getting more traction right now.

Joby Aviation, Kitty Hawk Aero, Wisk, Terrafugia, Opener, Lillium, probably more.

Its already been mentioned here how regulated this industry is, and they aren't going to be able to pull the Uber model of asking for forgiveness instead of permission.

Guessing some consolidation is coming up.

therockspush··on The personal info of what could be Instacart customers is being sold online
as soon as you can use a credit card to fund it, perfection.
therockspush··on Lego Helicopter Kit Cancelled 10 Days Before Release
Or make it a CV-22, the Air Force variant. These things have already been used in search and rescue missions.
therockspush··on A $350 “anti-5G” device is just a 128MB USB stick, teardown finds
this is art, huzzah.

those aura pictures are magic.

therockspush··on British Airways announces immediate retirement of 747 fleet
The A380 is supposed to end production in 2021. Airbus made a bet on the wrong business model, hub and spoke.

One of the great things about the 747 was all the different variations. It had what the aviation industry craved.

The A380 is cool to watch land, it always looks like its just going to fall out of the sky. But it's too much plane.

therockspush··on Haproxy 2.2
Seeing a lot of love for Willy, the main developer for years, on here. I've dabbled in HAProxy, definitely a lovable product.

Looked up Willy on LinkedIn,"DO NOT SEND ME FCKING INVITES IF WE HAVE NOT WORKED TOGETHER! "

No Fcking around with this guy.

therockspush··on Digital Psychology
It looks like this site got digi tech'd.

I was reading a nice refresher on anchoring, the page refreshed and it was gone.

therockspush··on Urban Gilgamesh: What the earliest epic tells us about living in an ancient city
The thing that always stuck with me about the Gilgamesh story was the way gilg and enkidu fought.

All of my best friends were people i had tension with first.

Familiarity or something

therockspush··on Last Airworthy MiG-17 Is Up for Sale
A couple comments at the bottom of the article make it sound like there are a few more airworthy ones out there.
therockspush··on New slats make the Golden Gate Bridge sound like a David Lynch movie
weird you picked that one, since on that wiki is the link to the wave organ in SF. Its pretty close to the Golden Gate.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wave_Organ

therockspush··on Ask HN: How did you catch Covid-19?
Guessing most people on here talking about maybe getting it in February are from the Bay Area.

February was the last time I got sick, covid-like symptoms, and going back through my slack out-of-office channel a lot of people at my office did too.

therockspush··on Breathing habits are related to physical and mental health
I tried this a while back. Most of the content was paywalled but one video I found summed it up pretty well. Most people are essentially constantly hyperventilating and our body is acting accordingly.

Being able to control the "pause" was a crucial part of it, and the little bit of info I gleamed from it was helpful for me.

therockspush··on 'Finally, a virus got me’: Scientist who fought Ebola and HIV reflects
It reminds me of a buddy telling me about his MOPP training in the Air Force. He said if there was ever a large scale biological/chemical attack, trying to decontaminate and drink water through a tube in your gas mask was going to get overwhelming real quick. It just takes one bad drink. The gas mask strapped to your leg was just a security blanket.

therockspush··on Ask HN: Late-bloomer engineers, when and how did you discover programming?
The Nick Parlante python videos. First time it ever made sense.
therockspush··on Nippon Colors
Don't tell me this is Zune bad.
