therein··on It's Time to Investigate the AI Labs
It is sad to see how many times this narrative will continue to work. Across generations, humanity learns no lessons at all.
therein··on When did Google get so weird?
> someone who voted for the current president of the US also isn’t directly responsible for the war in Iran

Yes I would. And not for an ideological reason or political affiliation but because that's just not how "directly" works.

therein··on When did Google get so weird?
If it was a direct transaction like you claimed, you wouldn't need to describe so many steps.
therein··on When did Google get so weird?
You might say directly in a sentence as many times as you want, it doesn't make it the truth. Kagi is not directly supporting Russian military efforts. It is a gross oversimplification.
therein··on GPT-6 Sol and Luna
They are both companies I'd rather not support. Not that our support for them has any material impact. NVIDIA is bankrolling them directly and indirectly.
therein··on AX – Google’s Open Agentic Orchestrator
> I would expect Google to maintain this and other tooling around this for years to come

"Gosh, that Italian family at the next table sure is quiet"

therein··on MCP was always a bad idea?
> Accept-Language: rust

That's craziness.

therein··on Go-based Robotics Framework built around NATS.io
So it is like a virtual CAN bus?
therein··on Neki – Sharded Postgres
It is the only reason I come to the comments section of PlanetScale posts on HN.

Their CEO always immediately comes in and makes a fool out of himself. He is what you get when you mix narcissism and being a midwit.

therein··on QBittorrent breaks out of sandbox to commit crimes
You connected it to a harness you designed yourself. If I designed a machine gun harness for my dog and installed it, I'd be held accountable for the damage he would do. Wouldn't I?

And "My Computer Just Became Self Aware"

therein··on Show HN: Fly By – retro biplane flying game
That was relatively fun but there should be a penalty for flying upside down and backwards, it should lose altitude or something.
therein··on The "$60 Gaming PC" – AMD BC-250 (2025)
That would be a good solution. I'd very much like that.
therein··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
They should and they won't, and they knew they wouldn't.
therein··on Ask HN: Why were OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down?
honest-load-bearing-ratchet sounds like an instance name.
therein··on Nostr is an inclusive communication commons
Well put, that's exactly what I think of Nostr as well.
therein··on How a Texas student blew the whistle on a rogue AI hacking attempt
Not "would" but "is". They are openly using this as a method to drive up the valuation of their companies.

Don't expect anyone to step in, Project Stargate is all about this.

therein··on Initial focus for our partnership with Motorola is a regular non-folding device
Looking forward to it. I will buy it right away.
therein··on Civic Hygiene – avoid building technologies that could be used by a police state (2013)
We had an ethics course, it was a requirement for graduation if I remember correctly.

It was entirely performative. You can teach a curriculum of ethics, but that won't make a person empathetic. These are courses for credit hours, not firmware updates.

And a person with empathy can always find or be given reasons to not apply his empathy to a person or a group of people.

therein··on How do I permanently disable random Google Photos popup to backup photos? (2024)
You know what I wish I could ditch but cannot due to their firm grip on it, Google Wallet.

Every other time I open it, it shows a pop-up asking "Can we use your payment data to show you more relevant ads?" which is annoying but what's more aggravating is the choices: "Yes", "Remind me Later".

therein··on Reticulum – Decentralized Mesh Network
It has nothing to do with that, like at all.
therein··on I close SSH port 22 (and what I use instead)
Quick, someone ask an LLM.
therein··on Why does Opus 5 feel worse to work with?
The moment it sees shellcode, it runs for the hills.
therein··on Incident with Pull Requests and Issues – Resolved
Why are you acting like 14x is 1000x?

325% is just 3.25x. None of these numbers are impossible to scale to.

Do you think these outages are happening because servers are just all too busy?

Just scale it up, you have Azure. Come on. The problem isn't the scale, it is the poor software engineering.

therein··on Kinney Drugs pulls back AI phone assistant after hundreds of customer complaints
> We are their lifeline.

Yeaaaah, I don't think that's true at all but I am glad it makes you feel virtuous and helpful.

therein··on Lost my phone at the office. Claude suggested tracking Bluetooth signal strength
Yeah it is pretty bizarre. On Android nowadays, when you click on some article that pops up as a notification, it takes you to Google and does an AI query to fetch you the article and then you see the content in Google.

I hate it.

therein··on Nashville uses eminent domain to block data center near zoo
That's not as great example as you think it is.
therein··on Kimi K3-256k
Maybe you signed up with a phone number? Mine was a Google login.
therein··on A.I. companies are recruiting electricians and carpenters by the thousands
Reddit: Come because we made sure you can't see the comments without logging in, leave because it sucks.
therein··on Kimi K3-256k
I wish I could get a Kimi subscription. I'd jump away from Anthropic in a heartbeat.

When they first announced, I created an account but didn't subscribe, so I am stuck on a waitlist now.
