I unsubscribed from Ali Abdal's youtube channel for this same reason. I have the utmost respect for him and I'm amazed at how well he manages his life. However, i always felt anxious after watching his videos. This video to be exact made me feel like shit and made me decide I should unsubscribe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQSKyvjsUuI
therealasdf··on FCC: TikTok is unacceptable security risk and should be removed from app stores
Why do Americans think they represent the world? Your adversary is not our adversary.

therealasdf··on The anus is an evolutionary marvel
I'm convinced that who ever came up with this valve was inspired by anuses. Its a clever way to dispense honey without making a mess.

therealasdf··on AirPods Causing Tinnitus (600+ reports since 2019?)
I use noise cancelling headphones and I think tinnitus becomes noticeable because of the noise cancellation rather than it being caused by it. Usually my environment has noises that make it harder to notice that I have tinnitus.

Your loss
therealasdf··on Android Studio 4.0
I'm very interested in this. I usually run into crashes in production on specific devices that I don't own. It would be nice to be able to reproduce them on a virtual device. FYI, the site is not loading atm.
therealasdf··on Do you guys miss real books? (2014)
I prefer my kindle because it is light and doesn't require a light like a regular book. I would never travel without it. I don't find books more immersive, if the writing is good I'll get lost in the book even if it was on my laptop or phone.

My main issue with ebooks is the DRM around them.

therealasdf··on Ask HN: How did you find your first hire?
I met an old friend at a restaurant. I had just graduated. He asked for my CV and got me an interview. The same company had no available positions on their website.
therealasdf··on Npm operational incident, 6 Jan 2018

Maybe the coefficient is just not efficient
therealasdf··on I spent two weeks delivering for Uber Eats and made $4.40 per hour
The problem is people will prefer Uber Eats over competitors because they are able to deliver food for such a low price. The employees of Uber Eats are the ones paying for this not Uber.
therealasdf··on Learning from Terminals to Design the Future of User Interfaces
That's still annoying. It should bounce a couple of times and then just stop.
therealasdf··on Learning from Terminals to Design the Future of User Interfaces
That's a good point. I think there is necessary and unnecessary animations. The 1password animation mentioned in the article is absolutely unnecessary. Animations should only be used to help the user understand what is happening and they should be fast. There's no reason why a user should wait for an animation to continue doing what they intended to do.

I think a useful way to accomplish a nice compromise between beautiful interfaces and usability is to allow the user to skip animations. For example, if I start typing after an action was performed the animation should skip to the end. In this case the user is clearly familiar with the interface and knows what they want to do next.

therealasdf··on GitHub commit search: “remove password”
For anyone wondering, if you want to remove a file or secret you've already committed, you can use BFG Repo-Cleaner to go through your commit history and completely remove any trace of it.

therealasdf··on React Native at Instagram
Exactly, the only difference developers might notice is slower build times.
therealasdf··on Who Lives with Their Parents?
Where I'm from, it's uncommon to move out of your parents house if you're not married.
therealasdf··on Quit Social Media, Your Career May Depend on It
A simple fix for social media addiction is using the 'do not disturb' feature. No notifications for the next hour. Take breaks every hour to take a short walk and look at your phone. I find it to be very effective.

therealasdf··on ASA Investigating No Man’s Sky’s Steam Advertising
I don't understand why it's only No Man's Sky that's being investigated. What about other known games that came out below expectations and with misleading advertisements? Watch dogs being a prime example.
therealasdf··on Pebble 4.0 Apps and Firmware Released
The problem with smartwatches today is it's still unclear what type of apps they should run. So you might be able to create super smartwatch that's just as powerful as a smartphone but is that what people want?
therealasdf··on How the Berlin startup scene is wasting its potential
It's mentioned in the article. They are originally from Stockholm but moved to Berlin because it costs less.
