I hope you enjoyed it. It went to shit again. That’s why we need open models

Maybe Sam or Dario is playing hide and seek again with the agents….
theplumber··on Claude Opus 5.5
Why would anyone trust anything Anthropic says about its products?
theplumber··on Claude Opus 5.5
Evidence is my experience. I think someone documented it as well, it was a top post here.
theplumber··on Claude Opus 5.5
Use it now as much as possibles. In a week or so it will start to suck as Dario turns the knobs to nerf it.
theplumber··on Pentagon says overreliance on AI contributed to missile strike on Iran school
To me the main issue is placing military installations near civilian buildings(I.e schools). I know US has schools near militarily bases as well so it’s not really a country specific issue. It’s just reckless policy not to ban such things unless you deliberately want to use civilians as shield.
theplumber··on MiMo v2.6
OAI and Anthropic are forced to release a better model every x months otherwise the Chinese ones will not only be cheaper but also better.

So how could Dario show the investors very nice profit charts representing profit = revenue excluding training costs if it needs to pay a lot of training every x months?

They want to sell the same model for longer(a kind of software subscription where the cost of running /inference is cheap) but the Chinese don’t let them do it. That’s the gist of it. You can see already how they nerf the models just a week or so after release and try all kind of tricks to deliver you shitty performance for the same money. I think it’s part of the same issue of costs and enshitification plan.

In the meantime let’s hope they don’t get to ban the Chinese models(I think they won’t), local AI hardware will get cheaper and the whole AI doom saga will slowly fade to the point that Anthropic becomes a kind of IBM stuff with proprietary data, enterprise certified alignment and enterprise contacts. Think of Accenture junk.

theplumber··on Fable 5 – Median thinking declined in August
It is clear by now to me that Anthropic is constantly trying to find a kind of “auto” degradation perhaps to save money on work it thinks does not require high reasoning. I always use max reasoning and I can clearly see differences between the models when they release and after 3-4 weeks. I think they give a kind of intelligence boost also for new accounts.

At this point I think I will get the DGX gb300 workstation though I will wait a bit more for the cold season. It is double the price but at least is the real thing
theplumber··on Agreement between the USA and Denmark (1951,2004) [pdf]
Ok what at what diplomatic price did the US get these concessions?

I would argue that the U.S didn’t even try to get this stuff so it’s not like Trump tried anything and used annexation as ultimatum.

Nothing is permanent and not this deal. You should know that by now if you watched the Trump stuff or the Russia deals with Ukraine or the U.S deal with Ukraine.

theplumber··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
I never understood this blame on EU as an external entity. If far right wins in most member states then EU itself becomes far right. The EU is MPs elected by the EU people directly and council members which are heads of state elected as well in most countries.

Ohhh no another one found that agents don’t actually run locally. We already had the “grok uploads all my stuff to Google cloud bucket” news…

next I can’t wait to see news about “ai company is using my data without my consent” as well.

theplumber··on Iran school bombing: grounds to believe US was behind atrocity, UN finds
Maybe someone should tell them that’s not a good idea? You don’t have to be too bright to see the risks of doing that.

I wonder if they have a school in Jordan near that military base. It was pretty targeted from what I’ve read.

theplumber··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
I have seen it differently. I’ve seen it about immigration, the party driving it being UK Immigration Party. Boris “party” put some economic spin on it but it was fuelled by immigration.
theplumber··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
Yeah but you have to wonder why the EU nations themselves are not very happy with the EU immigration.

One part of the answer is that some are more open to out of EU immigration than others. A while ago that was Germany who got 1 million plus of refugees and economic immigrants from Syria , Afghanistan and other non European countries.

Now it seems that Spain is that willing to take immigrants and of course also provide them citizenship after 3-5 years. So you may end up with a disproportionate amount of immigrants that come from Europe but are not really European in terms of looks and behaviour. I really fail to see how EU will continue unless far right wins all over Europe and a common restrictive immigration policy is agreed.

theplumber··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
This is was about immigration. I don’t understand why people are still in denial about this. I am pretty sure it would have happened anyway regardless of what economic concessions UK would have got. It’s worth to note that the immigration is still an issue in the UK and the EU and I think more EU members will leave because of this.
theplumber··on A single firm is behind OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta hacking scandals
OpenAI delayed its IPO now due AI safety reasons. In the meantime it is raising more cash. That should be a hint that the hacking incidents were premeditated scape goats and publicity stunts.

They’ve seen that the drama queen(Dario) was actually making a lot of noise, money and free publicity with his Mythos fear monger so Sam finally decided get some of that free “money” as well.

I think you didn’t visit YouTube recently. It’s still a short junk video site like TikTok and Instagram.

theplumber··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
Don’t you end up with useless slop? That was my experience with these kinds of systems. In theory they should work but in practice unless hand holded they just produce slop and waste.
theplumber··on GPT-5.6 Luna vs. GPT-6 Astra: Is a $1.20 Model Good Enough for Code Review?
Sounds like an AI-OS slop machine…been there, done that!
theplumber··on GPT-5.6 Luna vs. GPT-6 Astra: Is a $1.20 Model Good Enough for Code Review?
It would be great if all these benchmarks would also provide a slop metric. The main issue I see is not finding bugs but reporting “stupid” bugs and and if the recommendations are followed you end up overengineering the wrong things basically producing AI slop. GPT is prime candidate for this. Fable as well but less than GPT

Can the new AI browse the web?
theplumber··on HP ZGX Fury Is Now Orderable: GB300 Superchip, 748GB Unified Memory
My point is this is “useless” because you can’t run large models. It’s like having a very fast and expensive SSD with a very small capacity.

It’s not useless but it is for “real work”. Apple has been providing 512GB ram machines for several years so to say you need a rack to run a large model for personal usage it’s missing the point.

You needed a rack of nvidia cards to match an 128GB ram Mac as well a while ago so it’s more of the same.

theplumber··on HP ZGX Fury Is Now Orderable: GB300 Superchip, 748GB Unified Memory
Fair point but you get that only for 252GB of ram so it’s not even “totally better” than a Mac Studio ultra with 512GB RAM. It still the old “smaller but faster than a Mac” stuff nvidia sells.Maybe in 1-2 years they will match the Mac 512 but then Apple will release an even bigger Mac
theplumber··on HP ZGX Fury Is Now Orderable: GB300 Superchip, 748GB Unified Memory
Someone should edit the title to make it clear it only has 252GB of “AI” memory
theplumber··on HP ZGX Fury Is Now Orderable: GB300 Superchip, 748GB Unified Memory
I find it just misleading by advertising 700GB RAM as AI headline. I could plug a 32GB GPU to my 1.5TB ram server and call it “AI station with 1.5TB+ RAM” just so that you find it actually useless compared to the headline
theplumber··on HP ZGX Fury Is Now Orderable: GB300 Superchip, 748GB Unified Memory
Can’t you do that already more or less with a Mac Studio with 256 or better 512fb of ram?
