themattbook··on Deleting the golang subreddit
"Would you say that undoing net neutrality, then Comcast dropping all packets associated with anything expressing an anti-Comcast opinion is good and savory behavior? Would complaining about that be self righteous, moralizing nonsense?"

That is the perfect analogy for this situation.

Furthermore, I'd say a group of moderators who resort to discussing the future of their subreddit in a democratic and mature fashion; ensuring the integrity of their future, is far from comparable to what the CEO of Reddit has done.

themattbook··on Germany planning to ‘massively′ limit privacy rights
I have the political and business acumen of a wooden plank, so forgive the elementary question, but what would the German government or businesses have to benefit from the massive limitations? The way I read it, it seems Germany wants to restrict one's right to privacy... and that's it. Why?
themattbook··on Tell HN: Riseup.net fails to update canary; fingerprints deleted without notice
The purpose of the hyperbole, I'd assume, is to make one ask the same questions you're asking. In the philosophical sense: if we have to ask, we already have our answer.
themattbook··on Russia’s Plan to Crack Tor Crumbles
Duly noted! It all makes sense now. :)
themattbook··on Russia’s Plan to Crack Tor Crumbles
You're probably right. After thinking about it, why would Russia even bother unless it was to obtain something they didn't already have.

So the next question is, why abandon the efforts?

themattbook··on Russia’s Plan to Crack Tor Crumbles
Noob here.

Upon reading the original bounty, which stated the purpose was "to study the possibility of obtaining technical information on users and users' equipment of Tor anonymous network..." Could it be possible that Russia's intentions with Tor are purely ethical? Perhaps verifying it's integrity or seeing with their own eyes the benefits before investing?

themattbook··on Apple's App Store Got Infected with the Same Type of Malware the CIA Developed
How would oversight work in an App Store environment? I'm assuming it would be far too tedious for a human to review each line of code. Millions of apps, a couple hundred people. Not happening.

Being the "same type of malware the CIA developed" could we assume that Apple is allowing this type of backdoor through?

themattbook··on Why It's Impossible to Tune a Piano
I will forever take this into account the next time I tune my guitar using harmonics by ear. Very interesting!
