theglenn88_··on The Hugging Face incident and the road ahead
All I'm reading is "warning shot" and "open source models".
theglenn88_··on GrapheneOS user reported to authorities for using GrapheneOS
Exactly, don't forget, if you own or drive a car you must be a criminal, because cars are used as getaway vehicles in serious crimes.
theglenn88_··on Zero Days: Electric Motorcycles Are a Security Nightmare
The article adds risks about some of the chemicals used.

The first chemical though, Dichloromethane, found in some paint strippers is a highly restricted chemical in the UK.

It can be a silent killer in confined spaces.

It doesnt mention this though, I wonder if they knew.

theglenn88_··on UK government launches fuel forecourt price API
Exactly this, it's a legal requirement to show that under the weights and measures act I think.

Under that amount, you are likely paying much more per litre.

theglenn88_··on UK government launches fuel forecourt price API
Of course. I'm not talking about lack of money though here. We've all been on our last tenner until payday and need to go somewhere.

Some people seem to think that spending less at the pump means your saving money, but to save money you need to drive less. They religiously drive on £10-20 fuel stops.

My ex wife was convinced she spends less on fuel by putting less in a time, she even earnt more than me.

theglenn88_··on UK government launches fuel forecourt price API
On the topic of fuel, it's funny when people only put in £10 worth of fuel a time.

You spend more in by fuel driving there more often. As well as wasting your own time.

theglenn88_··on Second Win11 emergency out of band update to address disastrous Patch Tuesday
Wait... Outlook and OneDrive were usable??
theglenn88_··on After two years of vibecoding, I'm back to writing by hand [video]
My stance is that it's similar to hand tools vs power tools.

You need to pick and choose when to use them, it largely depends on the task.

I use AI a lot now for programming and spend more time code reviewing, sometimes though, I use my hands.

My nimber one rule is, don't try to do too much in one prompt.

theglenn88_··on Bose has released API docs and opened the API for its EoL SoundTouch speakers
How would you like Bose to solve this issue, If open sourcing the firmware doesn't make cut it?
theglenn88_··on India orders smartphone makers to preload state-owned cyber safety app
Yeah I can imagine, I know the sort, however you can't really assume that as you don't know them, people have a right to be upset if their children's education is at stake and in some cases the schools management can be the 'obnoxious sh*ts'.

What is clear though is there has been some abuse of power by the police. I wondered if someone at the school 'knows' someone in the police, which made it go so far.

> And that’s where you’d be wrong - lots of us belief that speech should not be a cause for arrest except in the most extreme circumstances. Hurting someone’s feelings is not that

what is an extreme circumstance?

At least in the UK, hate speech is a crime and is punishable by law, whether people agree or disagree is irrelevant, I do believe that if it's illegal on the street it should be illegal online, obviously in the relevant jurisdiction.

theglenn88_··on India orders smartphone makers to preload state-owned cyber safety app
I'd like to think that we all agree that you would be arrested for saying things in person (hate crimes, etc) would be the same things you'd be arrested for saying online... i'd place the line about there.

However, there are cases which do cross the line... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c9dj1zlvxglo

theglenn88_··on India orders smartphone makers to preload state-owned cyber safety app
This is probably one of the best ones https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c9dj1zlvxglo

Edit: I believe they are now getting compensation for a 'wrongful arrest' which, sounds entirely deserved.

theglenn88_··on Map of Wales and Pronunciation from Wikipedia
Yellow=beach/sand?

It’s a bit odd, the markers tend to be on places/towns. But some towns that are red I know for a fact also have a beach.

Not sure what the split of colours is for.

theglenn88_··on Malware found in official gravityforms plugin indicating supply chain breach
Not On Normal Courtyard Exercise
theglenn88_··on Doctor? Why does this hospital network run in such places?
Not an expert, but do prefer PoE.

It’s better in public places because it’s neater and less likely for a randomer to pull the plug/switch it off.

I’m sure there’s other reasons.

For phones on people’s desks it’s nice to have less cables/plugs too.

theglenn88_··on Apple Shortcuts is falling into "the automation gap"
Perhaps the reasoning is not that you will abuse it. But could other people abuse it and use it against you.

If you try to paste anything into the dev tools in Chrome, it forces you to specifically allow pasting because scammers have convinced people to do it over the phone to con them into something. How I’m not quite sure.

theglenn88_··on Time to quit your pointless job, become morally ambitious and change the world
Gotta jump in here.

Working full time for someone and doing a side hustle is hard, from experience.

What I’ve found is that trying to do the side hustle takes away from a lot time spent with your dependants, which you will never get back, unless you are lucky enough to “make the break”

Not impossible, and you’ve got to try and find a balance. But it just may never happen.

theglenn88_··on Vitodeploy: Self hosted Laravel Forge alternative
But how do we deploy Vitodeploy? Can someone borrow me a deployed version of Vitodeploy so I can deploy mine? /s

This looks decent, I wanted to build this once a few years ago, before Forge existed. will give this a try.

theglenn88_··on Apple to fix iPhone dictation bug that replaces word 'racist' with 'Trump'
I feel this could also be Apple collecting common replacements from their customers devices and applying the suggestions to updated dictionaries. They must collect that data from devices, I would have thought.
theglenn88_··on Woman, 82, still rides same bike she was given at 13
Except, it’s had 5 new chains, 2 cranksets, 10 seats, 2 rear wheels, 4 front wheels and one frame.
theglenn88_··on DIY Night Clock Projector (2018)
You and parent comment don’t have kids xD
theglenn88_··on Gmail, Yahoo announce new 2024 authentication requirements for bulk senders
If I had a penny for every legitimate email I marked as spam, I’d be a billionaire.

Jokes aside, why wouldn’t you just farm pennies by marking all emails as spam?

You could say, “well you could detect people that abuse the system” - and now the mouse is chasing the cat.

theglenn88_··on Wappalyzer removes public access from all repositories
It looks like Wappalyzer has gone closed source, they have deprecated the wappalyzyer-core package in npm as well. What gives?
