theHIDninja··on Firefox Suggest (address bar based ads, currently limited to US)
There is not a single UI change that they have made in the last five years that I have liked. The new look for tabs that they pushed a few months ago is an utter disaster.

Every decision they have made in recent memory has been in the pursuit of getting rid of user customization. Something which Firefox was originally built on. This is the reason they are hemorrhaging users.

theHIDninja··on Firefox Suggest (address bar based ads, currently limited to US)
It is not Mozilla's job to profit off its users. Its job is to provide a browser. They have utterly failed at this job.

I have a fundamental right to see not see the content I do not want to see. I have a fundamental right to not be advertised to. Firefox has violated this right.

theHIDninja··on Firefox Suggest (address bar based ads, currently limited to US)
I shouldn't have to disable a single damn thing. The entire browser should operate without any telemetry whatsoever. There should not be a single HTTP request sent outside of the ones I explicitly authorize by either explicitly clicking a link in a webpage or entering a URL into the URL bar. Anything else is harmful and a slippery slope.
theHIDninja··on Firefox Suggest (address bar based ads, currently limited to US)
Advertising is fundamentally malicious.
theHIDninja··on Firefox Suggest (address bar based ads, currently limited to US)
I have considered the owners and maintainers of Firefox to be malicious to the project for quite some time now. This finally cements that theory beyond any reasonable doubt.

What should we do about it?

theHIDninja··on Facebook employees badges aren't working, unable to enter buildings
Google, Apple and Amazon, maybe. Twitter actively participates in and profits from "cancel" culture so they may as well be direct political rivals to the West.
theHIDninja··on Windows 11 review: An unnecessary replacement for Windows 10
The problem is that the money Microsoft makes from telemetry and shunting ads in the star menu FAR outweighs any financial pressure on them to make a decent OS. If that source of income was somehow shunted then they would actually go back to making something functional.
theHIDninja··on Why Carmakers Can’t Transition to Newer Chips
But cars don't even need chips. Cars worked just fine for 70 years without chips. I don't get it.
theHIDninja··on Vaccine passport app exposed hundreds of thousands of users' personal data
It's almost like granting access to people's medical records would cause problems. Who would have thought?

Authoritarians were insanely opportunistic in using this Chinese virus to ruin people's lives.

theHIDninja··on EU plans to force OEMs to use a common charger for all phones
It will be interesting to see how Apple weasels their way out of this.
theHIDninja··on Facebook to target harmful coordination by real accounts
The Facebook problem will only be solved with violence.

The Twitter problem will only be solved with violence.

The Google problem will only be solved with violence.

theHIDninja··on Z3 approach to discover that “q_rsqrt” is in Copilot's slur list
Please enlighten me as to how seeing a word in a list of other words can do any physical harm to anyone.
theHIDninja··on Z3 approach to discover that “q_rsqrt” is in Copilot's slur list
Because there is a certain vocal demographic of people who think words can physically hurt people, so Microsoft needs to go to extreme lengths to avoid that demographic of people from thinking that people are getting physically hurt by using those words.
theHIDninja··on Squatters in Spain who demand a "ransom" before they will leave a property
This is why we need guns.
theHIDninja··on Curated list of personal blogs
I really wish that it was easier for non-technically minded people to submit blogs to this list.

It would really help if the owner of this site made a web form that didn't require you to have a Github account to submit things (or even understand how to hand-type the weird json format that they want)

I estimate that extra amount of user abrasion is preventing something like 99% of people from submitting their blogs.

theHIDninja··on Man dies of a heart attack after minors swatted him over his rare Twitter handle
My argument is that Twitter is 100% complicit and aware of what person B does, as well as the consequences of it (in this case, indirectly murdering someone). This phenomenon of ruining multiple people's lives in this fashion is also almost entirely localized to Twitter.

This is why I believe Twitter should be forcibly shut down. Their entire business model depends on them memory holing the atrocities its users commit.

theHIDninja··on Man dies of a heart attack after minors swatted him over his rare Twitter handle
You are saying that publicly shaming someone, making them lose their current job and making them un-hirable is a fair punishment for making an off-color joke, or holding beliefs that even slightly differ from Twitter's collective, or any number of innocuous things that people have had their lives ruined over.

Cancel culture IS a problem. You are part of the problem for not acknowledging it.

theHIDninja··on Man dies of a heart attack after minors swatted him over his rare Twitter handle
Just last week someone got doxed and swatted by Twitter as well. People get cancelled on an hourly basis by Twitter's narcissistic collective of soulless wretches that they call a userbase.

Twitter should be globally nullrouted for the crimes its users commit on an hourly basis. Jack Dorsey is absolutely knowledgeable about this as well totally complicit in it happening.

theHIDninja··on Tenacity: Floss Audacity Fork
this is the first I've heard of it, and I've spent some time on 4chan. Frankly I'm skeptical. 4chan already blocks you from uploading images that have extra data embedded in them.

EDIT: To add to this, how 4chan actually doxes people is very different. They typically post one very large image, which is a detailed collage of images with bits of information relating to the subject they are trying to identify. This is so the image can be easily downloaded and reposted. They did this a lot to help with identifying Antifa vandals a year ago.

theHIDninja··on List of Special Elevator Modes
There is also riot mode, where it won't stop on the first floor. It's used to stop people from just running in off the street and using elevators.
theHIDninja··on Audacity fork without any sentry telemetry or crash reporting
Audacity brought this problem on themselves. They walked down the slippery slope of telemetry.
theHIDninja··on British right to repair law excludes smartphones and computers
You will still have a removable backplate on your hermetically sealed phone. All Right to Repair means is that companies will be unable to enter part exclusivity deals with manufacturers.
theHIDninja··on Towing a Tesla at 70 MPH replenishes battery at fast charger rates
I wonder how much less efficient this is than charging it through normal means. Can someone more intelligent than me run the numbers on that?
theHIDninja··on What it's like to be cancelled
Stop using the term Cancel Culture. It has a much more light-hearted sound to it than the act could ever be. A more accurate term would be "Scapegoat Culture", as that is what these degenerate users partake in. They cast their problems onto someone and then force them out of society.

Instead of saying "He got cancelled by the Twitter mob", say "he got scapegoated by the Twitter mob"

theHIDninja··on Windows 10 to be retired in 2025, as new OS unveils
Windows 10 LTSC is the only version of windows released in the last decade that I would consider to be a commercially viable OS. It's a shame that it's nearly impossible to install, and I have to resort to illegal software to crack it to run on my PC. I am morbidly curious to see how they screw up this Windows 11 to make it more un-useable than mainline Windows 10.
