thatgerhard··on Jack Ma Says 12-Hour Work Week Could Be the Norm
This is what will happen. one person will learn 2 skills, get a small increase and work a normal week, while person 2 get downsized.
thatgerhard··on Announcing your plans makes you less motivated to accomplish them (2009)
This is my personal way of doing things, if its my own plan where I wont need any outside parties, nobody hears about it
thatgerhard··on Facebook Horizon
It's still facebook.. so no thanks
thatgerhard··on Dead Malls
It just needs galleries, I'm not going to read a blog post about a defunct mall without any pictures..

The problem is that Google doesn't use webkit anymore so chrome will still bleed your private data..

thatgerhard··on Oh, You’re Freelance? Good Luck Renting an Apartment
I own a small web company. people who work for me are able to get bonds for houses, I had to jump through a crazy amount of hoops, including accountant letters and office landlord letters to just rent an apartment.
thatgerhard··on Much of the “science” used in design is bullshit (2014)
I switched to Mac a year ago after more than 25 years using only using windows.. there are some glaring holes in mac os, but it's 1000x better than windows (and I'm not even going to get into the Linux argument).
thatgerhard··on Elizabeth Warren Proposes Breaking Up Tech Giants Like Amazon
if you're going to break them up, it's going to be a lot tougher to keep track of their "anti consumer" behaviour
thatgerhard··on Tesla's Latest Competitor Is a $15,500 Electric Three-Wheeler
Agreed
thatgerhard··on Tesla's Latest Competitor Is a $15,500 Electric Three-Wheeler
1. It's not even remotely a competitor, it's like saying BMW C1 is a Mercedes Benz competitor.

2. It's just a reliant robin with an electric motor

thatgerhard··on Bootstrap 5 will remove jQuery as a dependency
100% agree with you. Especially now that almost all browsers are up to scratch, cross browser isn't a problem anymore. If some of these guys had to work with IE5/6 they would probably quit the industry.
thatgerhard··on Bootstrap 5 will remove jQuery as a dependency
Do people still use bootstrap? I found it way too much bloat for something that doesn't add that much value. I don't think it has a place since flexbox became a thing. Coding something from scratch is just so much quicker now.

this is why we are all going to be replaced by machines.

This looks like a pr stunt to try and put the mpaa in a better light after thy sued everyone.
thatgerhard··on What Google isn't telling us about its AI demo
It's obvious that this is a proof on concept thing.. It's like tesla selling cars months in advance based in a render..
thatgerhard··on Google Grapples with ‘Horrifying’ Reaction to Uncanny AI Tech
No it shouldn't identify itself unless asked.. That would defeat the purpose.
thatgerhard··on Facebook is launching a dating feature
This is pretty much cardboard.. We need an open system for vr.
thatgerhard··on Ask HN: Does SEO still work in 2018?
This is it. I was a seo person in the early 2000s and, like now, it was lot of snake oil.

The one thing that is timeless, that works, is good content.

If you write good content you will get far.

Flooding pages with keywords and link farms doesn't get you anywhere in the long run.

thatgerhard··on What to do when Y Combinator comes for your industry
Paid marketing
thatgerhard··on It’s time to ditch SMS-based 2 Factor Auth
It's time to ditch sms completely. If its important the network can use OTA to get emergency messages to you. But receiving anything with your number should be removed.
thatgerhard··on Ask HN: How do you overcome the problems of task switching?
Concerta :-)
thatgerhard··on YouTube CEO on Facebook video ambitions: 'They should get back to baby pictures'
And change the api the next day destroying all work done by said developers.
thatgerhard··on Jack in the Box CEO: Swapping cashiers for robots 'makes sense' as wage increase
This constant chase for more and more profit is going to be the end of us.

Corporations needs to start paying an "automation tax".

thatgerhard··on Google just launched three new photography apps
And this will be the last time they ever update these 3 apps.
thatgerhard··on Show HN: Niche SaaS Idea Generator
I must be honest, the red is hardcore on my eyes. Can you maybe make it a little less "intense" :)
