th0br0··on Ethereum Now Handles More Transactions Than All Digital Currencies Combined
The IOTA network sustained >1.1 million TX over the last 24h as well (a bit more because there's a gap in my stats) - most without value however.

The selection of protocols is indeed quite selective.

Disclaimer: I work on IOTA.

th0br0··on Bootstrap 4 Beta 2
That assumes that old people live at home / have a regular mail box. What if they live in a nursing home or similar? Although 4x6 (10x15cm) is postcard format, so usual mailboxes should fit quite a number of those just fine.
th0br0··on Bootstrap 4 Beta 2
Germany.

Something like this also needs the ability to delay shipments - old people are more likely to be admitted to hospitals or similar.

th0br0··on Bootstrap 4 Beta 2
Love the idea! Does this ship internationally? Some FAQ/ToS/etc would be good.

th0br0··on Enabling Rust on Embedded Platforms – Linux, RTOS, Bare Metal
I've been using japaric's awesome work on Xargo (for cross compiling the std lib) to target a variety of ARM Cortex'es. Sometimes doing all work in Rust, sometimes just for linking against Rust crates in a C program. It's a breeze and super fun.

This is, in my opinion, where Rust really shines: using one codebase - without installing any new tools - I can target pretty much all platforms from embedded to browser to mobile.

Some of these images don't compare :( the scenes / perspectives differ quite a bit.
th0br0··on Cryptographic vulnerabilities in IOTA
Actually, SHA3 was not converted to ternary. The input is simply chunked into 243 trits that are converted to 48 bytes and are absorbed into KECCAK-384. Squeezing works the other way round, 48 bytes are squeezed and converted into 243 trits.

th0br0··on Ask HN: What is the best Linux distro for a development laptop?
I've been running Fedora Rawhide on my two systems for the past two years. It's surprisingly stable.
th0br0··on Apple removing battery life estimates following MacBook Pro complaints
I've got an XPS13 with an i7-6500U. That CPU is surprisingly powerful. I tend to throw quite a bit of multi-core C++ compilation or heavy Java workloads against it and so far it hasn't noticeably faltered once. Don't underestimate them just because of the low TDP!

Looks like the license is AGPL so that nobody can clone them and do a similar 'pro' version.

Now, when you contribute to their OS project you need to sign a CLA which pretty much consists of the usual 'all your base are belong to us'.

You hereby grant to the Owner and to recipients of software distributed by the Owner a perpetual, worldwide, non- exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable copyright license to reproduce, prepare derivative works of, publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense, and distribute Your Contributions and such derivative works.

th0br0··on Winning bid for NYPD body camera contract comes under lobbying attack
I doubt that these body cameras are very different from dash board cams (except for a need for more battery power) technically. Dashboard cameras are ephemeral in some parts of the world and cheap _and_ a consumer mass market.

Even assuming that it's technically very different: there's ~1 million sworn police officers in the US according to Wikipedia. That quantifies as a mass market for me given the price segment.

th0br0··on Ask HN: Who needs contributors? (October 2016)
This sounds fun. Just clicking through the repos, DroneKit is essentially a wrapper for talking to ArduPilot via MAVLink on different platforms?
