testbjjl··on Florida public universities to pause hiring new H-1B workers
You control nothing but your vote, if you vote at all. Best of luck to you with your struggles and shortcomings.

> The emergence of AI is at least proof that "deep engineering knowledge" can be easily summoned by a prompt.

Gee, I wonder what the academic backgrounds of the theorists and engineers who made that possible is. Probably no advanced degrees and no people on sponsorships right?

What? Somehow I think you’re overthinking this. There is no conspiracy. International students have helped to get us to where we are. Could we use some course corrections, sure, but you’re throwing the baby out with the bath water. Don’t believe me, ask the CEO of your company, or any Fortune 500, or your stock portfolio about the need to have the best talent in the U.S.

I hope the doctor I am seeing this morning has an undergrad+, same with my tax guy, and the guy that designed the bridge I am crossing and the road I am driving down.

Born in San Francisco at Mt. Zion, now Zuckerberg Chan, to parents and grandparents born in Berkeley. What have immigrants ever contributed… looks around… oh.

Why stop at nationality. California for Californians! Pretty bad take.

> Many of us have had to suffer through college lectures of dubious real-world application and near-incomprehensible accents. I am not alone when I realized that I could just enter the tech world with self-study, self-promotion, and applying to open positions.

So instead of getting the credentials required to authoritatively say what does and does not have real world applications, you dropped out, removing yourself from a qualified labor pool? Do you think the deep engineering knowledge and practices to solve hard problems is overrated?

testbjjl··on Meta’s AI smart glasses and data privacy concerns
Suck has made his mind up about which side he’s on with his money. I recall a time when people on the Forbes list were quietly political.
testbjjl··on Meta’s AI smart glasses and data privacy concerns
While I don’t disagree, with the sentiment, is this not incitement of violence?

Any qualifiers here from your experience or documentation?

testbjjl··on Banned in California
Some people like to pick cherries and some are cherry pickers. California is amazing. If we lose some employers and our economy falters okay. Happy to take it as it comes personally. Growing up here was can remember when it was a quiet place I would come home to from college breaks. Those were the good old days for me. Today’s days are pretty good too.

I think if we consolidate those operations the better, and then we can improve an regulate legislative or as a market more easily than if everyone is spread all over.
testbjjl··on Banned in California
I don’t know, 39.5m with net growth might disagree with you. Are you living in California at present? If not, do any of the deregulation in laws where you are trouble you. If so, when do you plan on leaving and where to?
testbjjl··on The Rev. Jesse Jackson, pioneering civil rights activist, dies at 84
Are you implying that Jackson had ownership in either of these companies? If so, have you any sources to support this claim?
testbjjl··on AI Added 'Basically Zero' to US Economic Growth Last Year, Goldman Sachs Says
Pissed it away, but Zuckerberg is richer than ever and so are his stockholders it seems. I can’t imagine doing it, but also can’t imagine running Meta.

More than the last few crashes. Same players on different teams.
testbjjl··on AI Added 'Basically Zero' to US Economic Growth Last Year, Goldman Sachs Says
More than Apple, on relative scale. Personally I don’t think that.

The GO may be talking about Wordpress or something less than embedded code running on the hadron collider.

If somehow Claude became sentient that would be sci-fi. One day it’s wrangling CSS and Spring Boot Controllers and the next it’s telling you opinions it developed through its own experiences on programming languages. Not sure that’s on the near horizon, but it’s definitely impressive technology.

Okay. Any organizations that represent the underrepresented not do this, or is there an alternative approach in your opinion?
testbjjl··on I guess I kinda get why people hate AI
Is this job obsolescence narrative top of mind in China? I wonder if they are they seeing these developments differently?
testbjjl··on I guess I kinda get why people hate AI
In China, I wonder if the same narrative is happening, no new junior devs, threats of obsolescence, etc. Or are they collectively, see the future differently?
testbjjl··on Show HN: Stripe-no-webhooks – Sync your Stripe data to your Postgres DB
> You don't have to figure out which webhooks you need or write listeners for each one. The library handles all of that. This follows the approach of libraries like dj-stripe in the Django world (https://dj-stripe.dev/).

I don’t figure out these types of things anymore. I just make sure they work in dev, staging and production.

testbjjl··on Bitcoin tumbles below $70K, heavy losses in cryptocurrencies in last three weeks
The anything includes gold continuing to rise and the dollar continuing to fall as countries continue to sell dollars and dollar denominated assets because of self enriching, petty policies. Why trust anything this administration says, especially as news is driven by an investigation into a cabal of pedophiles and things are decided as they are considered in real time, emotionally. This is what people wanted, I guess.
testbjjl··on Apple testing new App Store design that blurs the line between ads and results
I can remember, or perhaps imagine a time when the FTC would knowingly not look kindly on a situation like this, so Apple with its huge market share and revenue wouldn’t consider it. I imagine now it’s likely not a concern for the agency, and if it were, a political contribution would go a long way towards resolving any concerns.
testbjjl··on I'm a developer for a major food delivery app
By that same token, couldn’t someone say, without evidence, your response is obfuscation and don’t trust someone telling you food deliver services are not taking advantage of people using an algorithm? Not that I think you are but neither response proves identity or motive.

testbjjl··on As AI gobbles up chips, prices for devices may rise
> It's somewhat alarming to see that companies (owned by a very small slice of society) producing these AI thingies (whose current economic is questionable value and actual future potential is up to hot debate)

Some might conclude the same for funds (hedge funds/private equity) and housing.
