Sounds like a parenting issue, not a software issue.

tesdinger··on Ask HN: What are some of the most elegant codebases in your favorite language?
Try except isn't silly it shortens the code a lot. An exception can simply break out of a function, checking for error requires an explicit check at every line of the function and an added return statement to get out of the function.

Stopped playing after the first question because I don't care and i don't know why anyone would. After all this is just a website asking questions without context. It seems as interesting to me as the political debate in Star Wars Episode I that was famously mocked by the Simpsons.

The model has to be trained repeatedly to update the information.

Climate change is real and we are running out of CO_2 budget.
tesdinger··on Deep Learning’s Diminishing Returns (2021)
The article is forward looking, while SAP etc. is likely not going to increase its processing needs on orders of magnitude from now.

»For example, when the cutting-edge image-recognition system Noisy Student converts the pixel values of an image into probabilities for what the object in that image is, it does so using a network with 480 million parameters. The training to ascertain the values of such a large number of parameters is even more remarkable because it was done with only 1.2 million labeled images—which may understandably confuse those of us who remember from high school algebra that we are supposed to have more equations than unknowns.

Each picture has more than one pixel, so for the network to "remember" the images, we need more parameters than there are pictures.

tesdinger··on A performance analysis of Intel x86-SIMD-sort (AVX-512)
You cleverly wrote "sort" two times without referring to actual sorting in a thread about sorting.

The first algorithm that you linked is easy to explain. As soon as a value has been stored in another location its original location can be overwritten. To get started we move something to an additional location called temp A > Temp. Then we can overwrite it with the intended value Z > A. Then we can overwrite Z and so on and so forth.

tesdinger··on Superintelligence: An idea that eats smart people (2016)
| If you think we’re living in a computer program, trying to segfault it is inconsiderate to everyone who lives in it with you.

A reality in which most sentient beings brutally prey on each other.

tesdinger··on Group accused in $225K 'dice sliding' cheating scheme at Las Vegas casino
Given that players register with their name and card, checking using random samples, or spot check, is enough to catch cheaters. They probably also have statistical data of the wins and losses.
tesdinger··on Group accused in $225K 'dice sliding' cheating scheme at Las Vegas casino
If they weren't monitoring, there wouldn't be a lawsuit, so logic says, they were in fact monitoring and noticed it.

What would you do if you see an observation outside of the interval?
tesdinger··on Group accused in $225K 'dice sliding' cheating scheme at Las Vegas casino
Not following the games rules to gain a monetary advantage is criminal. If the casinos owner would do the same while dealing cards, you would be saying the same.
tesdinger··on Group accused in $225K 'dice sliding' cheating scheme at Las Vegas casino
It's entertainment and you pay for it in losses. That's the deal you make with the owners of the casino when you enter the game. If you try to profit off it by cheating, you are failing to comply to your part of the deal. You don't have to accept the deal if you don't like it, just don't go there.

If a company doesn't allow you to test their security, just let it go.

Are you trying to argue that it goes from illegal to legal as long as no one is watching?
tesdinger··on Bayes is guaranteed to overfit
> any value is as plausible as any other as far as I know”

That isn't possible to use as a prior as the uniform distribution from negative to positive infinity is zero everywhere.

tesdinger··on Bayes is guaranteed to overfit
The prior is a way to condense knowledge into math. A prior doesn't make sense if there is a lack of knowledge.

|How do we compare between hypotheses that are entirely consistent with observations?

|... Occam's razor

The answer is, build an experiment that makes it obvious. According to Occam's Razor, the Sun was burning coal, before we found out, it doesnt.

tesdinger··on Bayes is guaranteed to overfit
Bayesian statistics is dumb. What's the point of using prior assumptions that are based on speculation? It's better to admitting your lack of knowledge, not jumping to conclusions without sufficient data, and processing data in an unbiased manner.
tesdinger··on Bayes is guaranteed to overfit
If you do not train on the training set, then there is no training set, and your example is degenerate.
