I have enjoyed reading Canterbury Tales but have little to no ability to parse Beowulf.
I don’t know where that line is, but pre-Shakespeare is at the least diminishing returns.
> … As much mud in the streets as if the waters had but newly retired from the face of the earth, would not be wonderful to meet a Megalosaurus, forty feet long or so, waddling like an elephantine lizard up Holborn Hill.
A completely functional high earning English-speaking software developer might easily find the above sentence hard to parse.
I find old school sitcoms hard to enjoy, probably because I am missing a lot of subtle cultural context. It doesn’t imply my comprehension skills are poor.
The Republic of Ireland has more than 5 million people. The Island has well over 7 million.

The upside was that the design didn’t allow it to go open plan.
But I do think if everything is a PC it becomes a meaningless term: fridges, watches, TVs, calculators and phones.
Stretching the definition of a PC here but it is interesting they have ported SteamOS to ARM with x86 translation.

I explicitly stated in my comment that we pay for open source (via vendor support). That is not the issue.
It is now a common business strategy to commercialise an open source project. FreeNAS was commercialised as TrueNAS, which is now having some of the source pulled.
TrueNAS doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It’s built on source projects.
At work the trend is only adopt open source on a paid plan, adopting or relying on open source otherwise is just waiting for the rug to be pulled. Essentially treat open source as closed source.
How did we end up with this state of affairs?
Costco has a single store in my country and it’s butter that they sell cheaply to get people in the door. But I doubt they are losing money on it.
How do you know they don’t?

Anthropic just removed a discount on Fable, while people are simultaneously getting sick of reading fable and opus talking about “the load bearing texture” and “color of the blanket”. It’s become excruciatingly painful to read the output during coding sessions.
Maybe it’s just good marketing.
I only have one and am wondering what the benefits are of getting another. I feel I will be disappointed…
It will be a failure if 10 year olds continue to join social media at the rate they have done so in the past.
It’s not likely to get 15 year olds who have been addicted for 5 years off it, anymore than smoking bans have any impact on teens who have been smoking or vaping for years.
Open source means open source code. Open weight means a binary file dump, not unlike an exe file. There is nothing open source about it.
Its like having a closed source text editor that censors certain words, and an open source text editor that censors certain words.
The latter can easily be recompiled, the former requires reverse engineering. Both may give you a license to use them freely.
My guess is they are selling you the tokens, then selling your tokens (data) onto someone else.

A wicket has the same function as a catcher in baseball.
