tekromancr··on A 3°C world has no safe place
That is profoundly myopic. Sure, the "planet will adapt" or whatever. But how well do you think it's gonna go when a bunch of nuclear weapon armed nations decide that the land they live on is no longer hospitable?
tekromancr··on Released from a gag order regarding a federal investigation into a silly comment
I think I get what you're getting at, but I see a pretty big difference between a random internet comment and a person of actual power saying "Ayyy, it sure would make me happy if so and so just, ya know, got taken care of"
tekromancr··on Released from a gag order regarding a federal investigation into a silly comment
It's almost like the Marshals saw the comment, knew it was likely NOT a real threat; but sent a "Hey, hold on to that guy's info for a bit, just in case" letter.

I am thinking if something HAD happened to that particular judge within 90 days of the comment being posted, they would be VERY interested in having a conversation with the commentor

tekromancr··on Under the skin of OnlyFans
I don't see sex work as "drug dealing with intimacy and attention" any more then, say, twitch streaming; or podcasting. The whole media environment has been retooled to incentivize super-unhealthy (but perhaps unsurprising given our decades long trend towards individualism and isolation) parasocial relationships
tekromancr··on Show HN: Fakeflix – Netflix open source clone
It really is terrible! I always try to hold my tounge whenever the UI changes in an app, because it's usually just me not liking a "new" ui. But they have had this for months|years? now. if people are still saying your UI is bad after an extended period, then I think it's safe to trust them
tekromancr··on Show HN: Fakeflix – Netflix open source clone
Wowie! I just installed this and this friggin rules! All of the features I care about from Plex, plus the ability to enable/disable transcoding on a per-user basis? Yes!
tekromancr··on An Intern’s Guide to Trading
Because if you set up something like fail2ban to automate blocking abusive traffic, it's going to quickly block tor exit nodes and public vpn servers
tekromancr··on Haiti’s President Is Assassinated
I would say so. You attempted to use sarcasm in a community of people who dis-proportionally don't pick up on sarcasm, using a medium that notoriously doesn't transmit sarcasm well.
tekromancr··on Haiti’s President Is Assassinated
I don't think you understand just how powerful states with big fucking guns are
tekromancr··on Ohio GOP ends attempt to ban municipal broadband after protest from residents
Other replies to you post make some good points, but there is also the fact that having a fiber line running to her property significantly increases the value of the property and attractiveness to future purchasers.
tekromancr··on Gooey: Turn almost any Python command line program into a GUI application
This is cool as hell! I have had quite a few situations where I wanted to automate someone else's workflow, but asking them to open terminal was probably too much of an ask.
tekromancr··on Departures of Police Officers Accelerated During a Year of Protests
But through police unions, 100% of them fight against accountability for the bad actors.
tekromancr··on Big Dice Games Acquires Risus: The Anything RPG
I suspect that different user's upvotes influence the rankings differently.

I also think there is sum amount of fuzzing in the system to try and expand the breadth of things that hit the front page.

tekromancr··on Wapp – A Web-Application Framework for Tcl
Tcl on the web; That's a Wapp
tekromancr··on Wapp – A Web-Application Framework for Tcl
I don't think it would be hard to imagine people would be aware of an VERY RECENT INCREDIBLY POPULAR song.

Just because you like web shit doesn't mean you are completely disconnected from the greater culture.

tekromancr··on Justice Department withdraws FBI subpoena for USA Today records ID'ing readers
I don't think they did. That reply tracks
tekromancr··on Have you ever hurt yourself from your own code?
I used to have a big CNC router. Like, one that you could mill a whole door on, if you wanted to.

One day I thought it would be a cool hack if I could rig up an Xbox controller to send movement commands. Long story short I managed to snap the bit by moving too much after a plunge cut. No safety glasses or anything; but a day or two later I did find some shrapnel from the bit embedded in a piece of foamboard I had near the machine, so that was cool...

tekromancr··on MagicaCSG: A lightweight signed distance field editor and renderer
Huh, funny seeing this. I JUST learned about signed distance fields from a suckerpinch video this week.
tekromancr··on Breeze Keyboard
The only tricky bit is I think you would need a custom enclosure. Perhaps down the line they will have a slim right enclosure/plate
tekromancr··on Breeze Keyboard
Man, those choks look really pretty
tekromancr··on Squeezebox Keyboard
You can get some manuform/manuform likes on eBay for a bit cheeper. I just ordered one from a fellow who seems to be just churning them out to test it. There always seems to be pretty reasonable demand for them, so I assume I could resell pretty quickly if I decide I dislike it
tekromancr··on Is your son a computer hacker? (2001)
It was particularly believable to me because I think it was about the same time that the whole apple computer satanic panic thing was going around...

Which in retrospect may have also been satire

tekromancr··on I am resigning along with most other Freenode staff
You do know that the staff left because of a hostile corporate takeover and not any sort of interpersonal political dispute, right?
tekromancr··on ●●|●●●●●|●●|●
Aww, a genuinely heartwarming scp. I love it!
tekromancr··on Is your son a computer hacker? (2001)
Ah, a classic! I remember reading this as a kid thinking it was sincere and just getting madder and madder as I read
tekromancr··on There’s Nothing to Do Except Gamble
Ah, 3x ETFs. For the sophisticated degenerate.
tekromancr··on Our plans for PeerTube v4
PeerTube isn't a platform, tho. It's software and a corresponding protocol. It's akin to asking Microsoft why their operating system allows people to view csa content.
tekromancr··on System76 Developing “Cosmic” Desktop Environment
Good point! At maximum draw with the GPU going BRRRRRRR I am going to have a bad time; But it would still be nice to have it as an alternate charging option.

Right now I am on battery and am only drawing 28W, so I think it could manage most of the time.

tekromancr··on System76 Developing “Cosmic” Desktop Environment
I seem to be mistaken! Sounds like quite a few models DO have PD now. I guess I am just grumpy my Oryx pro 6 doesn't.
tekromancr··on In Python, `[0xfor x in (1, 2, 3)]` returns `[15]`
Eh, python breaks backwards compatibility between versions all the time. And I don't know if "it's used by codegolfers" is a legitimate reason to keep a language feature.

That said, I have a really hard time imagining this issue coming up in regular usage of the language so I don't really have much of an opinion should they choose to keep or drop it.
