teknico··on Dependency Cultures – Richard Feldman [video]
In 24 posts over 11 years about his talks, this is the first comment. The poor guy deserves a break. :-)

Careful, the mechanical keys are of the clicky-clacky kind.

teknico··on Show HN: Gofred – Build responsive web apps in Go with WebAssembly
Go-app (unsearchable name, https://go-app.dev/ ) has been doing something similar for a while, I wonder how it compares.
teknico··on AI Horseless Carriages
Gary Burton? Oh, no one special. Just the guy who invented modern two-hands vibraphone playing, played and taught jazz for half a century, and nurtured jazz musicians like Pat Metheny, Makoto Ozone, and Julian Lage.
teknico··on Show HN: I built an AI that turns GitHub codebases into easy tutorials
Thank you, very detailed and useful.
teknico··on An end to all this prostate trouble?
I’ve been prescribed, and taking for a while now, daily Dutasteride plus Silodosin (Urorec). However, the latter has the unpleasant side effect of suppressing ejaculation.

Tadalafil (Cialis) does not seem to do the same, however other potential side effects involving sight and hearing are listed.

I’ll ask my doctor if such a swap would be advisable.

teknico··on I made a game you can play without anyone knowing (no visuals/sound)
The game should not be available for purchase from an iPad. I can’t believe I only now found out that iPads have no vibration hardware, after using them for several years. Too bad.

The piano is a hard one. Best current result: Pianoteq.

teknico··on How to escape Honda's privacy hell
I have one too, nice little car.

Unfortunately Volkswagen stopped making them, and the new ID line embodies many negatives of new cars.

Any details about the open source replacement for controls?

teknico··on I'm giving up on open source
> I may just be jaded and cynical.

You’re just realistic, don’t sabotage yourself.

teknico··on Scripts should be written using the project main language
Well, it depends. If your project uses Zig, you obviously use the Zig build system.

If your project uses C or C++, you also use the Zig build system.

Agreed, those ideas should not rise to the top.

It’d help if more people asked themselves a question more often:

“Am I being a useful idiot right now?”

Or they could be usefully malicious, hard to say.

teknico··on Shave and a Haircut
It’s even more striking once you look into the history of money, and realize what’s going on.

End the Fed.

teknico··on How French was medieval England?
“Bistecca” in Italian.
teknico··on Cars suck, man
I've been driving an e-Up for the last two years and am happy with it. It's a small car, just 240 km in the summer and 180 km in the winter though.

The battery pack is not temperature-controlled so it gets hot in long trips, and recharging becomes excruciatingly slow. Then again, it was not designed for long trips.

The new Citroen e-C3 is a modern, cheap(ish) car with a similar concept: optional touchscreen and many physical controls.

teknico··on Pocketbase: Open-source back end in one file
Its URL is presumably https://entgo.io/ .
teknico··on Rumble turns off access in Brazil because of government's censorship demands
> This is Brazil. […] Sometimes what works for America doesn’t work elsewhere.

Shortening “United States of America” to just “America” is not good. Brazil is part of America. USA is part of America. USA is not America.

teknico··on The origin of the law of torture: A cautionary tale
No such safeguard in Italy: people are regularly tried from three to up to five times.

It’s not rare for someone to be found guilty after having been found not guilty once, and sometimes even twice.

teknico··on Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2023
I too have the HD598, great open headphones: you can hear environment noises perfectly well, and they sound great. When I need some insulation, I use the Audio-Technical ATH-M40X. Also sounding great, quite faithful, like the HD598. The price is similar.
