tekbruh9000··on Thiel and Zuckerberg on Facebook, Millennials, and predictions for 2030 (2019)
Also much more addicted to service economy with little survival and self sufficiency instincts.

Anecdotally, very briefly dated a 40 year old who claimed she only ever cooked boxed food; had never even baked or microwaved a potato. Her words!

They’re the Gizmodo and Ars Technica journalist crowd exploiting slave labor while bitching about social justice. The 1984 double speak is strong with them.

America is a passive investor society. Like Trump thinking factories will just appear because he wishes it, Millennials wish to be enriched without giving a shit about externalities.

I base this entirely off their actual effort on the ground. Their "thoughts and prayers" may be cranked to 11, but my lived experience is they're even more disconnected from obligation to themselves than Boomers and GenX who at least spent some part of their life solving their ground truth problems.

They prefer socialism (which I am not against) because they realize they're screwed as individuals, they need help. Many probably expect they'll be served by it, not serving it.

tekbruh9000··on "Our research is greatly sped up by AI but AI still needs us"
Egh this is pretty "use unalived not died".

"Get out an English thesaurus and recreate Mona Lisa in different words."

If you really want to be a cognitive maverick, you would encourage them to make up their own creole, syntax and semantics.

Still, the result is describing the same shared stable bubble of spacetime! But it's a grander feat than merely swapping words with others of the same relative meaning.

You totally missed the point of "put this in your own words" education. It was to make us aware we're just transpiling the same old ideas/semantics into different syntax.

Sure, it provides a nice biochemical bump; but it's not breaking new ground.

tekbruh9000··on Peter Thiel: Capitalism Isn't Working for Young People
That requires people feel he is trustworthy, so he thinks (I don't believe him) this rhetorical pivot is essential to earn youth trust.

They all been doing this; Zuckerberg with his Macklemore style update.

Not sure I get the pearl clutching over surveillance state; look at social media being used to cancel. Journalism and its history of reaching into everyone's lives. Religion's history. Self organizing groups surveilling the population are normal.

Everyone is a self selecting biology out to demonize and denigrate, insulate itself with prestige. In the end all of it is some form of randos trying to surveil and track people. The one exception I make is healthcare, spread of illness. The rest is mostly self aggrandizing nonsense.

First worlders with zero obligation to engage in manual labor to serve their biological survival have little to do but hallucinate up crimes, sins, immoral behavior perpetrated by others.

The only people we should be canceling and harassing are in Congress. Yet purity competitions about powerless neighbors rule Main Street. The American social cult is nothing but hypocritical randomly existing meat suits abusing 12-13 year olds in third world textiles sweatshops; from billionaire class down to retail cashier.

tekbruh9000··on Peter Thiel: Capitalism Isn't Working for Young People
How Thiel knew is he has had access scholars and others saying this for years. He's seen the social media posts cheering on Luigi.

Rather than agree years ago, he rolled with capitalism. Now he's trying to fix his image.

Mamdani win. Boomers politicians that protect him retiring from politics, glitching out on TV, or dying in power. GenX being skipped over for leadership as they're all stuck in the 90s. He's got to ingratiate himself on a youthful majority taking over or end up dangling from the gallows.

He's not prescient. He's an opportunist.

tekbruh9000··on White House rules out bailout for AI as bubble fears grow
Nah, we don't have that luxury anymore. I mean in a vacuum of data yes sure it's a physical possibility. But we have polls of public opinion and those polled express concern for their lives and story so far.

There is no simple binary choice. Inequality has been growing for decades. We've been discussing the unfairness the entire time. No revolutions.

tekbruh9000··on White House rules out bailout for AI as bubble fears grow
The subtext of the joke is "killing people fosters change." I understood it just fine. You're hung up on specifics of contemporary cultural nature. The joke was not about the in world setup; writers (especially back then) used the Simpsons as a rice cake, a bland vessel to provide cover for the critique of their culture.

Not so much today where media is obsessed with fan service, probably to manipulate their perception of the world and keep them addicted. They need a lot of you's out there sweating the details, coming back for another bump.

"Fancy" citation when such things are commonplace. "Everything" yet more hand wavy melodramatic emotional terminology.

Your posts aren't constructive at all. Ignoring the painting to argue over a couple brush strokes, as they are terribly offensive to your sensibilities. If we were in a room together I would expect you to pull a up turns nose good day, sir!

You might consider going outside as circling trivialities with such emotional conviction is unhealthy.

Just went on a 5 mile walk myself. Feels good man.

tekbruh9000··on A.I. and Social Media Contribute to 'Brain Rot'
Here's an example of how reliance on traditional media leads to detrimental outcomes: https://ourworldindata.org/does-the-news-reflect-what-we-die...

Anyone from far away lands, kings, priests, CEOs, rando on HN reaching into your mind... all engaged in information shaping to encourage allegiance. It makes instinctual sense for NY Times editors to get others to risk their health through limited coverage. Biology is self selecting and instinctual to the core; it does not run in high minded philosophy, just physics. The only way to confirm our efforts now matter is stay alive longer to verify. Something entropy does not afford our individual biology.

I have taken to ignoring those not on the cutting edge of health science and essential technology for food safety and production. Everyone else is gaming clicks.

tekbruh9000··on White House rules out bailout for AI as bubble fears grow
The problem with the revolution talk is too few know how to "work to live".

Only 4% hunt in the US anymore. When is the last time you sewed a shirt? Grew a carrot? 100 years ago everyone had manual labor skills, even the rich. Musk and Zuckerberg live the same prisoner's dilemma.

Our lived experience informs us revolution is certain doom as we watch ourselves live daily routines that only require the smallest obligation to ourselves; eat, shower, sleep, computer.

~84% live less than 100 miles from their childhood home. Americans are fine being sedate and cared for despite the rhetoric they're rugged individuals.

Office workers need to learn how to grow potatoes and rotate a tire first.

The best kind of revolt would be a methodical Luigi style pruning. Simpsons made that joke 20+ years ago; you'd have to kill 50 CEOs to see certain changes[1]. That's included here to demonstrate how normal and old the issue is.

Inflation since 1980 is 297%. Slow steady deflation of buying power into helplessness was not an accident.

tekbruh9000··on Game design is simple
My plan was/is entirely new client, mapped client state to SWG emulator server.

Godot is a pain given my workflow is pretty cli heavy though. Since I last touched that project I looked into switching to Wicked Engine. Just include C/C++ headers rather than Godot.

But job got interesting (am an EE in hardware development land) and I have to spend free time diving into AI model architecture to keep up. Both SWG projects have sat idle for 10-12 months now. shrug

tekbruh9000··on Game design is simple
PVE was indeed awful. Especially given the back drop; it should have been full of adventure across the galaxy, established characters messing with players, but was merely "run here and kill 6 kobolds". NPC AI sucked.

Would love to strip from my private server, NPC generation as-is as implementation is static and does not allow dynamic responses. Replace it with modern agents to connect like players and train them to build out the world like players can.

Also started a project to make a new client using video and segmentation, gen AI to recreate initial game engine entities as Godot scenes to have full control.

Too little time for either, initial code has sat untouched for years.

tekbruh9000··on Game design is simple
Game was SWG, not SWTOR. Launched in 2003 and was sunset in 2011 when SWTOR launched.

SWG set out to be something like Dwarf Fortress in terms of depth to the worlds physics; for example, gunsmiths could tinker on all parts of a gun and maybe get a lucky roll to unlock +N more damage or -N recoil. Same with land vehicles and bioengineered animals, droids. Parameters to noodle all the way down. Some under user control, others random to foster sense of a chaotic physical world.

As the in game object economy was entirely propped up by crafters this fostered economic PVP.

Lucasarts of 2000-2003, when the game was developed, did not understand MMO, and 3D games take much longer than 2D adventure games and shoved it out the door 2 years too early.

It also suffered from 90s OOP heavy software development patterns. Devs had difficulty managing it and updating over the years.

Ultimately it failed at being a Star Wars game. PVE was just "kill a nest of bugs" and failed to leverage storylines and characters. Players with nothing else to do ended up ruling the economy or whatever. Could have made them compete against Star Wars power brokers, IMO. Jabba sabotaged your factory, or something. Once a player was kitted out they had nothing to do.

Some have spent the last 10+ years implementing a server emulator, various tools and mods. An emulator built around the original release is here: https://github.com/swgemu

I tinker on a modded private server now and then. Initially added in random world events, to generate things to go do and replacing odd design decisions like mission terminals with NPC models to talk to in that seedy back alley, to foster more in world RP vibe.

When WOW launched SWG was redesigned to play more like that. Typical MBA "copy paste what they are doing" project management.

All you are guarding against here is some bits in a machine. Knowledge can be embedded in other substrate, other medium. Acquired by more actions than reading social media.

IMO what you really mean is "I should be free to sit and surf the web secure in my belief others are acting properly, while subsisting on externalized labor that props up my biology".

Asimov and countless others highlight this difference between being a passive reader of others ideas as orthogonal to knowledge acquisition. If you aren't conducting the experiments you acquired nothing but memory of someone else telling a story.

4% in the US hunt now. So to get people living rather than acquiescing, all you office drones are going to have to learn your way out of helplessness. Go acquire knowledge of how to grow a potato.

You won't because you don't want to acquire knowledge. You want the world to gift you knowledge and experience through as little effort of your own as possible. Typical American capitalist. 8 billion across the globe aren't that impressed by 300 millions obvious grift.

Then ignore it all and go enjoy some TV, video games, grubhub any obligation to yourself away; you earned it.

tekbruh9000··on I’m worried that they put co-pilot in Excel
The post you replied to called out how the argument is complicated arguing for both ways; Brenda bad-AI good and AI bad-Brenda good. You reduced it to "AI bad, Brenda good." Not sure about the rest of your response then.

Brenda just recalls some predetermined behaviors she's lived out before. She cannot recall any given moment like we want to believe.

Ever think to ask Brenda what else she might spend her life on if these 100% ephemeral office role play "be good little missionaries for the wall street/dollar" gigs didn't exist?

You're revealing your ignorance of how people work while being anxious about our ignorance of how the machine works. You have acclimated to your ignorance well enough it seems. What's the big deal if we don't understand the AI entirely? Most drivers are not ASE certified mechanics. Most programmers are not electrical engineers. Most electrical engineers are not physicists. I can see it's not raining without being a climatologist. Experts circumlocute the language of their expertise without realizing their language does not give rise to reality. Reality gives rise to the language. So reality will be fine if we don't always have the language.

Think of a random date generator that only generates dates in your lived past. It does so. Once you read the date and confirm you were alive can you describe what you did? Oh no! You don't have memory of every moment to generate language for. Cognitive function returned null. Universe intact.

Lack of understanding how you desire is unimportant.

You think you're cherishing Brenda but really just projecting co-dependency that others LARP effort that probably doesn't really matter. It's just social gossip we were raised on so it takes up a lot of our working memory.

tekbruh9000··on Show HN: Why write code if the LLM can just do the thing? (web app experiment)
When I write to an unknown audience, unable to know in advance what terms they rely on, I tend to circumlocute to build emotional subtext. They might only get some percent but it may be familiar enough terms to act as middleware to the rest.

The words Man, father, and grapefruit aren't essential to existence of man, father, grapefruit. All existed before language.

What you mean by "human experience" is "bird song my culture uses to describe shared space". Leave meaning to be debated in meat space and include the current geometry of the language in the model. Just make it mutable.

The machine can just focus on rendering geometry to the pixel limit of the machine using electrical theory; it doesn't need to care internally if it's text with meaning. It's only represented like that on the screen anyway. Compress the information required to just geometric representation and don't anthropomorphize machine state manipulation.

tekbruh9000··on Show HN: Why write code if the LLM can just do the thing? (web app experiment)
You're still operating with layers of lexical abstraction and indirection. Models full of dated syntactic and semantic concepts about software that waste cycles.

Ultimately useless layers of state that the goal you set out to test for inevitably complicates the process.

In chip design land we're focused on streamlining the stack to drawing geometry. Drawing it will be faster when the machine doesn't have decades of programmer opinions to also lose cycles to the state management.

When there are no decisions but extend or delete a bit of geometry we will eliminate more (still not all) hallucinations and false positives than we get trying to organize syntax which has subtly different importance to everyone (misunderstanding fosters hallucinations).

Most software out there is developer tools, frameworks, they need to do a job.

Most users just want something like automated Blender that handles 80% of an ask (look like a word processor or a video game) they can then customize and has a "play" mode that switches out of edit mode. That’s the future machine and model we intend to ship. Fonts are just geometric coordinates. Memory matrix and pixels are just geometric coordinates. The system state is just geometric coordinates[1].

Text driven software engineering modeled on 1960-1970s job routines, layering indirection on math states in the machine, is not high tech in 2025 and beyond. If programmers were car people they would all insist on a Model T being the only real car.

Copy-paste quote about never getting one to understand something when their paycheck depends on them not understanding it.

Intelligence gave rise to language, language does not give rise to intelligence. Memorization and a vain sense of accomplishment that follows is all there is to language.

Not a fan of the racism and gender bias, but am 1000% indifferent to bougie labor exploiting office workers being handed their hat.

tekbruh9000··on Andrej Karpathy – It will take a decade to work through the issues with agents
Also note Karpathy notes the problems with agents are tractable but hard.

He's vague on the paths being explored to resolve them. His "higher level" view is probably awareness the solutions to software problems are hardware based fixes, but he cannot say that to software developers. Which has been the back and forth of tech since I was a kid in the 80s writing Basic; new state management unlocked by old software logic being embedded into new hardware.

Two main problems to solve for: too many people bought in to a status quo. And much simpler, the actual engineering of new hardware. One is only resolved by generational churn without resorting to all out police state action. So tech jobs as we know them will fade away slowly to not upset too many, and younger generations will not care as they will never experience anything else.

tekbruh9000··on Andrej Karpathy – It will take a decade to work through the issues with agents
"Higher" than an EE with an MSc in elastic structures, ~30 years industry experience, now working with PhDs across the spectrum on energy models to embed in chips? Energy models in part, inferred from categorization of LLM contents and compression of those contents into geometric functions like I described?

"Higher level" implies acceptance of geometric structure. You place tokens like a Chomsky diagrams at each step up and down, where you should see parameters to transform geometry of the structure.

My team works "above" the contrived state management of software workers to more efficiently sync memory matrix to display matrix. LLMs are a form of compression [1]. My team is working on compressing them further into sets of points that make up each glyph and functions to recreate them.

Electromagnetic geometry transforms hardcoded[2] into hardware so reduce energy use of all the outdated string mangling of software dev as most know it.

What's higher level, relative to our machines, than design and implementation of the machine?

DnD dungeon master versus WOTC game designer.

Notice outside how there are no words and philosophy? Just color gradient and geometry?

Notice inside the human body no philosophy or words?

Language is not intelligence it's an emergent phenomena of geometry created by fundamental forces of physics organizing matter at various speeds relative to light.

You've read too much into an ultimately arbitrary statement meant to invoked a subtext, a subtle emotion context. You think of language as Legos, when it is music to feel.

Signal attenuation, a byproduct of entropy, due to generational churn means there's little guarantee.

Occam's Razor; Karpathy knows the future or he is self selecting biology trying to avoid manual labor?

His statements have more in common with Nostradamus. It's the toxic positivity form of "the end is nigh". It's "Heaven exists you just have to do this work to get there."

Physics always wins and statistics is not physics. Gamblers fallacy; improvement of statistical odds does not improve probability. Probability remains the same this is all promises of some people who have no idea or interest in doing anything else with their lives; so stay the course.
