tehwebguy··on Criminals offer reporter money to hack BBC
> Authenticator apps should not give notifications, users must open them manually.

Agreed, the constant “Are you trying to log in / reset your password?” notifs Google send me are concerning because I’m afraid I’ll accidentally tap “Yes / Allow”!

tehwebguy··on Primer on FedEx's Distribution Network (2024)
I don’t think FedEx has ever been correct about a delivery to our address in NC. We just add one or two days to every estimated delivery and don’t stress about it but I just can’t believe they keep underestimating.
tehwebguy··on Evanston orders Flock to remove reinstalled cameras
Company fears not being paid, has no fear of committing a crime.
tehwebguy··on In Maine, prisoners are thriving in remote jobs
> I've never understood the not allowing felons to vote, even while incarcerated.

It's literally unconscionable in any kid of democracy to me.

tehwebguy··on Teen suspect surrenders in 2023 Las Vegas casino cyberattack case
I’m almost positive ripping off a casino isn’t a crime. I’d be demanding a jury trial for sure.
tehwebguy··on Google confirms fraudulent account created in law enforcement portal
> "No requests were made with this fraudulent account, and no data was accessed."

Oh yeah no totally

tehwebguy··on Milwaukee M18 tool battery communication protocol
Is that true? Seems like a waste to have all the extra guts in the battery and not include protection for this.
tehwebguy··on YouTube addresses lower view counts which seem to be caused by ad blockers
The automated “Skip Ahead” button (which I use daily) is already hostile to sponsorships. I would not be at all surprised to see them hitting sponsors on multiple fronts.
tehwebguy··on YouTube addresses lower view counts which seem to be caused by ad blockers
View counts are on borrowed time anyway, I’m sure.
tehwebguy··on Scammed out of $130K via fake Google call, spoofed Google email and auth sync
Heck of a job, Google!

Email spoofed from legal@google.com and he read it in Google's Gmail app for iOS. The original title was correct: "Google Helped It Happen"

tehwebguy··on Man jailed for parole violations after refusing to decrypt his Tor node
Oof. Any links to this one?
tehwebguy··on My thoughts on renting versus buying
Buying a condo is half buying and half renting.
tehwebguy··on Salesforce Cuts 4k Customer Service Jobs as AI Agents Replace Human Staff
> He described the shift as “the most exciting thing that’s happened in the last nine months for Salesforce,”

incredible self own

tehwebguy··on Google AI Overview made up an elaborate story about me
Yeah but the articles don’t directly attribute that specific part to any source and I’m not trying to get sued next.
tehwebguy··on Europol said ChatControl doesn't go far enough; they want to retain data forever
Yes, why would this one be exempt?
tehwebguy··on Google AI Overview made up an elaborate story about me
They already do and they don’t even have to be powerful.

A conspiracy guy who ran a disqualified campaign for a TN rep seat sued Facebook for defamation for a hallucination saying he took part in the J6 riots. They settled the suit and hired him as an anti-DEI advisor.

(I don’t have proof that hiring him was part of the undisclosed settlement terms but since I’m not braindead I believe it was.)

tehwebguy··on AI crawlers, fetchers are blowing up websites; Meta, OpenAI are worst offenders
This is a feature! If half the internet is nuked and the other half put up fences there is less readily available training data for competitors.
tehwebguy··on Home Depot sued for 'secretly' using facial recognition at self-checkouts
Or maybe they just don’t want any violence in their stores at all? I will avoid shopping somewhere that has regular ass whoopings way more than I would avoid shopping somewhere with regular shoplifting.
tehwebguy··on Britain Drops Request That Apple Create a Back Door
Similar to the other post, the only proof offered for this is a tweet from Tulsi Gabbard. From the article:

> Apple didn’t respond to requests for comment, nor did the British Home Office

tehwebguy··on UK drops demand for backdoor into Apple encryption
Title should say "reportedly drops" or "according to US official." No proof is offered other than a tweet from Tulsi Gabbard.
tehwebguy··on Court records reveal Sig Sauer knew of pistol risks for years
I wonder how many people died when police encounters were escalated to “shots fired” by their faulty Sig.

It’s one thing for a gun to go off and potentially hit someone but it’s another when the first round fired triggers 4 cops to empty a mag each.

tehwebguy··on Facial recognition vans to be rolled out across police forces in England
Now is your time. Everyone else stopped going to the movies 10 years ago too!
tehwebguy··on Wikipedia loses challenge against Online Safety Act
Do they even need to? Seems like they can just eliminate all the jobs in the UK and let the ISPs ban them when the time comes.
tehwebguy··on The dead need right to delete their data so they can't be AI-ified, lawyer says
Sort of!

Deceased people’s wills are ignored every day.

tehwebguy··on FBI seized $40k from Linda Martin without charging her with a crime
Another case taken on by the same group, Institute for Justice!
tehwebguy··on U.S. intelligence intervened with DOJ to push HPE-Juniper merger
Yes, one party is way, way worse
tehwebguy··on U.S. intelligence intervened with DOJ to push HPE-Juniper merger
I mean yeah one party is way, way worse but Democrats have funded all of the above, confirmed the appointments that are doing this, and pushed the conflation of policy protest with antisemitism. It’s really bleak at the national level!
tehwebguy··on How to Catch a Wily Poacher in a Sting: A Thermal Robotic Deer
No, and the general rule is that it’s never entrapment. I don’t know how people get the idea that either of those scenarios would be entrapment.

It’s still not your bike, why would you be permitted to steal it just because a cop left it somewhere?

(I say this as someone who seriously disagrees with the outrageous powers that wildlife cops and regular cops have)

tehwebguy··on Electric cars produce far less brake dust pollution than combustion-engine cars
BMW i3 has/had a REX version and when I researched it people seemed to agree it’s the least reliable part about owning it. But that might be it!
tehwebguy··on TapTrap: Animation‑Driven Tapjacking on Android
> independently and confidentially reported by @MG193_7 (ByteDance IES RedTeam) to the Android Security Team in early 2023

I wonder if this is in the wild anywhere, it has to be after 2.5 years right?
