teeboy··on Show HN: My first web app – PDF memo creator
Would you publish the code too? Congrats!
teeboy··on Show HN: Insight AI – 7 week fellowship for scientists and engineers
Hi, would you consider graduates from non-CS fields? I will very soon have a PhD in Civil Engineering where I do statistics and Machine learning for solving weather-related problems. Have good experience with R and Python.
teeboy··on Chinese City Publicly Shames Migrant Workers Who Protested Unpaid Wages
In many states of India, you will be called an immigrant, not just migrant. Generally, the choicest of abuses are reserved for Bihari migrants though. Not so for educated migrants for Kerala, for example. Most Indian states have cultural identities stronger than even some European nation states and hence the conflict with the other.
teeboy··on Show HN: The Top Fives – now with Dark Mode
Are you using J2EE?
teeboy··on Show HN: The Top Fives – now with Dark Mode
What is the web stack behind it? It's really nice.
teeboy··on India bans discriminatory pricing based on source/destination/app/content
1. Mozilla and Grameen phone don't violate Net Neutrality. They would be warmly welcomed.

2. They can only do so with their own products now. Not Facebook.

teeboy··on Show HN: A free collection of maps for every country in the world, in 11 sizes
If someone uses that map of India in any application or project targeting India, it is bound to attract a sea of protests. I didn't even know about the existence of this map till college and Google. Overwhelming majority of Indians don't know about your map and would likely see it as justifying Pakistani aggression.
teeboy··on Heart Surgery in India for $1,583 Costs $106,385 in U.S.
The Doctors and Engineers from the best institutes of India are comparable to the best in the world. You will regularly meet them in American or European hospitals anyways doing consulting. It's a poor comparison. Some of the hospitals in India are comparable to any top-class hospitals in the world. In the end, you will be visiting such a hospital in India, not small time ones.
teeboy··on Google Alerts Drops RSS Delivery Option
Google, I'll strangle myself to death with titanium barb wires before I use Google+. Not a single person I know ever updated anything on Google+ and looks more like a well-designed wasteland right now. With these kind of high-handed tactics, I'll make sure to badmouth it as much as possible.

Geez!

teeboy··on How Google is Killing Organic Search
Adblock,FTW ! Never seen an ad in several years now.
teeboy··on The IIT Entrance Exam
Just an FYI, IITs are not the only Institutes of National Importance (INIs) in India. 30 campuses of National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are also in that bracket. NITs also have more than 10,000 alumni in Silicon Valley alone. Though IITs, justifiably, hog all the limelight and we don't like it one bit. :-)

teeboy··on Bill Gates in India, Day 1: Getting Better All The Time
We don't live in a utopic world. Nuclear weapons did fix a lot of things. Like being free from constant bullying tactics. It also led to the greatest stretch of indigenous development of technology since India's independence. The economic blockage helped us stand on our feet with pride.

So yes, it was a positive development.

teeboy··on Bill Gates in India, Day 1: Getting Better All The Time
India lives in a hostile neighborhood. And those programs also employ thousands of engineers and scientists. I know it is tough to reconcile, but progress has to happen all fronts simultaneously. Like USA couldn't wait to go to the moon in 1969 even though they had millions of poor.
teeboy··on Scientists poke frozen mammoth, liquid blood squirts out
Looks fine to me. We use it the same way in India.

And both celsius and Kelvin are SI units.

teeboy··on Show HN : Animate your Ideas
It's very buggy. Great concept though. The video on the homepage is not working. Could you please give a better explanation video?
teeboy··on Ask HN: What's the best Google Reader replacement?
I have gone for http://feeder.co/ because it is very lightweight and in-browser. And in-fact I like it more than Google Reader.

I tried Feedly. It looks really shady as it adds something in the background and the UI is not good for reading.

teeboy··on Academia.edu Lets Researchers Share Their Raw Data
Graduate student myself: This a cry for business that will fall on deaf ears in academia. Nobody would ever publish half-baked code that 'does the job', for the fear of getting judged. And none of us have time to prettify the code.

Academia.edu started with a lot of promise but is frankly a useless placeholder of your name and Email ID now. ResearchGate has surpassed them long ahead in useful features and Mendeley is already very good. They are just making some money from the academic jobs ads and I frankly don't see a future for them if they are happy being almost the exact same product for the past 3 years I have used them.

teeboy··on Love to Learn
I don't think people in HN like to encourage domain squatters.

teeboy··on Love to Learn
You are a domain squatter. It's a shame people like you lurk on HN.
teeboy··on Connecting an iPad retina LCD to a PC
Or you could avoid all the trouble and bad a Surface RT or Pro, isn't it? Compatible out of the box with thousands of printers, scanner and every kind of peripheral you can possibly imagine.
teeboy··on U.S. Health Care Prices are the Elephant in the Room
I am a student in US from India and I still don't understand how this whole stuff works. I have university insurance and was still billed 1500 dollars for once I had to go to hospital urgently.

One of my friends went back to India for a dental surgery instead of doing it in US (Even with the flight fare, it came out far cheaper). And I have been to the best hospitals of India. I can stake my name for the fact that service in the US-based hospitals is same in quality with the best in India. Except they are less likely to make you bankrupt.

I don't know the reasons behind this. But I am pretty sure the average Middle class American is getting royally effed by this system.

teeboy··on Shiva – More than a RESTful API to your music collection
Interestingly it was Shivratri yesterday for Indians - for Shiva, the destroyer God of Hinduism.
teeboy··on Code.org – Dedicated to growing computer programming education
Has anyone noticed that they are recommending W3Schools?

teeboy··on Indian PSLV successfully lofts multiple satellites
Go ISRO! I wish the Indian Govt did one less scam a year and granted a 10X increase in ISRO budget. But you are doing some amazing work on an operating budget less than a big American University. Stay Strong ! And go Mars in 2014!
teeboy··on India blocks 73 URLs criticizing IIPM, an MBA college
I think a lot of people are confused with the hawkish name of this institution. It represents the very worst of Indian education system, not the best or anywhere near it. Infact, it's a diploma mill which is not even in the Top 100 management institutes of India. Arindam, the director, himself comes from a family of illustrious cheats with a larger than life image.

Easiest way is skim through this site: http://www.iipm-fraud.com/

The govt has little clue of what it is doing. Hopefully 1 more year, and we can get rid of this regime for good.

teeboy··on QLB (قلب) - Program in Arabic, display algorithms as calligraphy
Khwarizmi was a great guy. But it will be nice to cite his influences as well - like he introduced Indian Numerals (Which the world wrongly calls Arabic Numerals). His work in Algebra is based on previous work from Indian and Greek sources. Surely that doesn't make him father of Algebra. However, his other controbutions are stupendous and one of the first treatise in Math worth recollecting. Persian history has indeed contributed many great things to the world (And please don't use it interchangeably with Arab or Arabic).
