So, like ostree? https://ostreedev.github.io/ostree/
teddyfrozevelt··on 70TB of Parler users’ messages, videos, and posts leaked by security researchers
It wasn't from private posts, it was from deleted posts. Parler left them accessible and so they happened to be caught when scraping.
teddyfrozevelt··on How bad is your Spotify?
It only works on certain playlists, I think only Discover Weekly and Release Radar. It shows up next to the like button for me.
teddyfrozevelt··on Improving DNS Privacy with Oblivious DoH
It's almost ready in Windows.

teddyfrozevelt··on OpenZFS 2.0
Adding on, I've been using ZFS as my root partition on Arch with the latest kernel and zfs-dkms and have never had a problem.
teddyfrozevelt··on Gimp 2.99.2 – GTK3 user interface toolkit
Installing it through Flatpak here is actually fewer commands than your apt example.

You just run this to add the repository, > flatpak remote-add --user flathub-beta https://flathub.org/beta-repo/flathub-beta.flatpakrepo

Then this to install it > flatpak install --user flathub-beta org.gimp.GIMP

The next two commands let you switch between the beta and stable branches, which is something apt can't do.

teddyfrozevelt··on I reverse engineered McDonalds’ internal API
If you've never used the McDonald's app, then you can place an order, but the store doesn't receive it and do anything until you arrive at the store and it detects that you're there. During this period, you can cancel the order. My guess is that's what he's doing.

teddyfrozevelt··on Linux under WSL2 can be leaking
As an aside for Spotify, the Flatpak version has added some nice hacks around scaling, theming, and deep links.

teddyfrozevelt··on Grub2 security update renders system unbootable
> Can systemd-boot offer me editor at boot time where I can change kernel cmdline?

Yes, just press 'e' as long as editor=yes in the loader config.

> Can it boot non-Linux non-systemd OSes?

Yes, auto-entries will find Windows automatically and other EFI images can be set up through loader configs. Not sure why it wouldn't work with non-systemd systems considering that's an init system and it's a bootloader.

> Does it handle encrypted disks better than GRUB2 does?

Doesn't the initramfs handle decryption of disks?

> Does it work well if I prefer bios/dos/mbr mode?

No, it doesn't support BIOS boot.

teddyfrozevelt··on Pay up or we’ll make Google ban your ads
Clickcease has an incentive to prevent this, as it's their entire business model. Google has an incentive to let it happen, because it makes them more money by forcing people to keep outbidding each other. As long as Google ads are so ubiquitous that it isn't very feasible to just stop using them, then Google has no reason to stop this abuse.
teddyfrozevelt··on Google is finally killing off Chrome apps, which nobody really used
Developers still have to pay $100 a year, and own something that runs Xcode.
teddyfrozevelt··on Is the era of the $100 graphing calculator coming to an end?
No, once you get to university level math classes, you don't use calculators at all.
teddyfrozevelt··on Firefox Now Available with Enhanced Tracking Protection by Default

teddyfrozevelt··on Chrome extension manifest v3 proposal: comment from uBlock Origin author
Demonetized videos still get YouTube Premium revenue.
teddyfrozevelt··on Switch from Chrome to Firefox
What makes you think it isn't getting any use?
teddyfrozevelt··on Firefox/Normandy/PreferenceRollout
Because it's not an SSL certificate.
teddyfrozevelt··on Clarifying the Future of Firefox Screenshots
Isn't it right in the address bar on a default Firefox install? If it isn't, then it's definitely in the 3 dot menu in the address bar.
teddyfrozevelt··on Streaming video has surpassed cable subscriptions worldwide
That obviously doesn’t count, as there really isn’t anything YouTube can do about that.
teddyfrozevelt··on Android users in Europe will be asked which browser and search engine they want
Gecko exists, and DuckDuckGo doesn’t use Google, so it’s not like you have no real options.
teddyfrozevelt··on Launch HN: Point (YC W19) – First Debit Card with Points
Privacy has a new, somewhat hidden cashback program that's not really visible until you sign up. It starts at 1% but you'll get 2% for a year if you refer enough people.

https://cashback.privacy.com/

teddyfrozevelt··on Launch HN: Point (YC W19) – First Debit Card with Points
That integration would be pretty slick, especially since the budgeting in Simple is somewhat convoluted and yours seems to be more like how Mint handles it.
teddyfrozevelt··on Launch HN: Point (YC W19) – First Debit Card with Points
> You can instantly issue new virtual cards when ever you would like to.

Is this like privacy.com? Right now I'm using that because I can get 2% cash back while still using my debit card, and for the card controls in case some service tries to charge me for something I don't want.

I'm using Simple bank because I love the UX, but when I'm using it in conjunction with Privacy, I lose some of the benefits like the auto naming and categorization of transactions.

teddyfrozevelt··on Addressing Spotify’s Claims
I have no problem with Google Play Music/YouTube Music because those are treated like equal citizens with Spotify on Android. I think it’s better for everyone if Apple Music’s competitors weren’t at a disadvantage just because Apple makes the platform, and I say this as someone who owns many Apple products.
teddyfrozevelt··on Addressing Spotify’s Claims
I don’t know if Apple Music has to pay 30% to Apple, but either way It wouldn’t change my opinion and I don’t think it would make a difference to the EU. It’s illegal in most places to use your dominance in one market to your advantage in another. Google got fined by the EU for doing that with Android and Chrome/other GApps. I personally think Apple should allow developers to link to an external payment system for subscriptions/iAPs if they would rather set all that up themselves, but we’ll have to wait and see what the EU decides.
teddyfrozevelt··on Addressing Spotify’s Claims
That’s what I said in my comment, and what Spotify is arguing. They have to follow rules set by Apple that Apple doesn’t apply to Apple Music.
teddyfrozevelt··on Addressing Spotify’s Claims
When you download the Netflix app, you only get a sign in button. The only extra info you get about how to get a Netflix account is a help button that calls support. I don’t know what Hulu does, but I presume something similar.
teddyfrozevelt··on Addressing Spotify’s Claims
They’ve listed all their arguments on their site www.timetoplayfair.com, although I wish some where more technically in-depth.
teddyfrozevelt··on Addressing Spotify’s Claims
But Spotify can’t even tell users how to upgrade to premium according to Apple’s rules. The best they can say is “You can’t upgrade to Premium in the app. We know, it’s not ideal.”
