techtalksweekly··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (March 2026)
https://techtalksweekly.io/

I'm working on Tech Talks Weekly which is a free weekly email with all the recently published Software Engineering conference talks in the past 7 days.

Every week I pull all the new talk recordings from hundreds of conferences (Devoxx, KubeCon, PyCon, QCon, LeadDev, JSNation, and many more). I feature the ones I think are must-watch with short summaries written by me, then include a list of everything else uploaded that week.

It started as a personal project to fix my own messy YT subscriptions and RSS feeds and now 8,700+ people read it.

I also publish extra editions from time to time like “The Most Watched Talks of 2024” which made it to the HN front page. Currently, I'm working on 2025 edition that will be published very soon.

If you watch software engineering conference talks, you might find it useful.

I’d love to know what you think!

techtalksweekly··on Ask HN: If your project is free, what are you building and why keep it free?
https://techtalksweekly.io/

I'm building Tech Talks Weekly[1], a free newsletter where my readers get one email per week with all the latest Software Engineering conference talks and podcasts[1] published that week.

Recently, I've released a paid tier[2] where my subscribers additionally get:

1. Access to my internal database of all the talks and podcasts since 2020 (+48,000 in total) where they can search, filter, sort, and group by title, conference/podcast, view count, date, and duration.

2. See the list of the most-watched talks over the last 7, 30, 90 days, 6 months, and 12 months based on number of views.

3. Get category-based view of new talks & podcasts by tech stack, language, and domain (Software Architecture, Backend, Frontend, Full Stack, Data, ML, DevOps, Security, Leadership and every major language & ecosystem).

It costs almost nothing besides the domain and Claude subscription to improve my tooling.

techtalksweekly··on Ask HN: Why is YouTube's recommendation system so bad?
That's why I started Tech Talks Weekly https://www.techtalksweekly.io/

YouTube's algorithm is built to maximize engagement for a broad audience. Especially shorts with animated "jumping" captions and videos that zoom in and out every three seconds providing no useful content most of the time.

I found it really frustrating that almost every tech conference talk ends up on YouTube, yet it's surprisingly hard to discover the ones I'd find interesting.

So I wrote a script that fetches all the talks from the channels I follow each week, groups them by conference, and sorts them by view count. That way, I spend about five minutes a week and quickly find the really good ones.

In 2024, I turned it into a newsletter. I use the exact same script and I just copy and paste the results into Substack. It turns out many people are facing the same problem because it grew to over 8,400 subscribers as of today.

https://techtalksweekly.io/

I'm building a newsletter called Tech Talks Weekly[1] where my subscribers get one email per week with all the latest Software Engineering conference talks and podcasts[1].

I originally built it for myself because I was subscribed to too many conference channels on YouTube and things started getting messy, so I wrote a script to fetch the new talks automatically and send myself an email once a week. Eventually, I turned it into a newsletter.

I currently have over 7,600 subscribers with email open rate consistently between 32%-35%, although I plan to trim the list soon to get into the 40-50% range.

that's a really cool project! I'm building something similar, but for conference talks and podcasts[1], but in a form of a newsletter.

I use semantic search ocasionally when building extra editions and use a sentence transformer with all-MiniLM-L6-v2 model.

How did you go about implementing semantic search in your app?

I'm collecting every new software engineering conference talk and podcast each week so you don’t have to scroll through YouTube/RSS feeds[1]

Every week, an endless number of new podcasts and talks are published. Most get buried before anyone sees them. My newsletter called "Tech Talks Weekly" is a free email that lists all the new talks and podcasts published in the past 7 days across hundreds of conferences (KubeCon, QCon, PyCon, Devoxx, etc.) and podcasts with a few must-watch ones highlighted and briefly summarized.[2]

Also doing yearly “most-watched” compilations (e.g. 100 Most Watched Software Engineering Talks Of 2024 that made it to HN front page) which have been fun to put together.

Started it as a side project to stop missing good talks, but now 7,200+ devs read it every week.

I'm working on Tech Talks Weekly newsletter (https://www.techtalksweekly.io/) where I send a weekly email that includes all the talk recordings published in the past 7 days from nearly every software engineering conference.

Each issue includes: - Featured talks of the week highlighting the must-watch talks of the week. It includes a short human-written video summary. - New talks including the complete list of all the talks that have been uploaded in the past week. These are grouped by conference and ordered by view count.

From time to time, I build talk compilations, for example: - https://www.techtalksweekly.io/p/50-most-watched-software-en... - https://www.techtalksweekly.io/p/100-most-watched-software-e..., which made it to the HN front page.

techtalksweekly··on Tell HN: YouTube RSS feeds are gone (again)
It works for me.

On that note, I used to follow YT RSS feeds to keep track of the recently uploaded tech conference talks. I felt tired of it as it provides no filtering/sorting/grouping options. To solve this problem, I built a script to track all new talk uploads with an option to sort/filter/group.

Then I decided to scale it and created a newsletter based on that called Tech Talks Weekly. Each issue contains a list of all the recently uploaded tech conference talks from (currently) over 100 tech conferences. The list is grouped by conference and sorted by the view count. Just sharing it here in case you find it useful.
