I'm a cloud infrastructure & devops engineer, focusing on healthcare and compliance, and Kubernetes on GKE or EKS. I love Terraform, k8s, and am very fast at architecting and deploying new infra.

I also like to surf and do analog photography.

technics256··on What we learned after a year on Kubernetes
Thanks for the detailed post. Really helps newcomers like myself.

One of the benefits as a new user of k8s is the ability to grab a helm chart to get me most of the way with something like ELK. I want to go the way of Kustomize but can't seem to find the same with it?

The best situation all around here possibly is the concept of "Kurzarbeit", or short work system, that exists in Germany (Denmark also has a similar one, I believe). It basically allows employers to reduce hours they pay workers, while the gov't helps cover the shortfall to the employee, up to some maximum amount.

This prevents companies from having to layoff people, and allows them to pickup the slack and rehire everyone again when things get better.

technics256··on The good parts of AWS: a visual summary
I liked the book, but it fell apart when it got to cloudformation. It hand waved a ton of the actual IaaC part, so instead you end up copying from book, which had some differences from the git repo they shared. Good to get the basics of what to do and best practices for architecting, but incredibly frustrating on actually following and building with cloudformation.

technics256··on Show HN: Sales for Founders
I think there are a ton, especially at consulting agencies and startups. Or, start your own agency and go sell. :)
technics256··on Show HN: Sales for Founders
In my experience, this always comes with vetting the customer and asking the right questions. It's important to ask things like "what's your buying process like" or "what's the procurement process like?" for enterprise type deals.

If the direct customer doesn't know, ask for introductions to the people who might. This gets you ahead of any type of issues that could possibly pop up in these types of situations.

In the end, always start by listening to the customers needs and asking the right questions to understand everything you need to qualify the deal.
