You die with yourself. You are never alone…
techer··on Poetry as a Surveillance Survival Guide
I just finished reading it yesterday and I don’t think that is too bad at all.

“Bred then manipulated” may be better.

techer··on WD My Book users wake up to find their data deleted
Mine all gone too. I imagine I’m backed up twice. Who knows.
techer··on Le Corbusier as I Knew Him (1977)
“Le Corbusier who was quoted saying

“How nice it would be to die swimming toward the sun,”

did, actually, die in 1965 while taking a long swim in the Mediterranean, against his doctor’s instructions. His dead body washed ashore later. It is believed he died of a heart attack.“

“In conclusion, there is no conclusion. Things will go on as they always have, getting weirder all the time.” Robert Anton Wilson
techer··on The Short Story Priesthood
I’m reading it and would say it’s definitely teaching me in the best way possible - to think.

Certainly about the shorter form, but mainly about WHY things are introduced when they are.

Saunders also gives the reader the chance to imagine in which direction they would take the stories.

Thanks for the nod to the audiobook.

techer··on Gigerenzer’s simple rules of thumb often outperform complex models
"Standard pitch measurements. Not all pitches are the same size, though the preferred size for many professional teams' stadiums is 105 by 68 metres (115 yd × 74 yd) with an area of 7,140 square metres (76,900 sq ft; 1.76 acres; 0.714 ha)."

The field dimensions are within the range found optimal by FIFA: 110–120 yards (100–110 m) long by 70–80 yards (64–75 m) wide.

Managers can instruct groundskeepers to alter the pitch size at home.

I heard that referees are not feeling pressured into giving or not giving penalties that they may have been pressured into due to home crowds.

Some sports have fixed sizes.

I’ll watch your recommendation. Thanks

techer··on Sir Kazuo Ishiguro warns of young authors self-censoring out of 'fear'
Well. I said he was known. Not publicly known.

From his hand: “To stay anonymous, I wrote it under my first and middle names – Scott Alexander – while leaving out my last name.”

This is hardly a major attempt at anonymity.

Not that it matters but I’m very much in favour of remaining anonymous. I also am a fan of his writing.

techer··on iPhone 13 to Include 1TB Storage Option, Lidar Across Board, Say Wedbush Analyst
I’ve done this, plugged into iTunes, waved a magic wand and all other possible methods. At best it magically frees 10gbs or so. They ran diagnostics and this had to be uploaded through iTunes as well, waiting too long for the results. My phone entered a boot loop when out of memory despite me using less than half of my phone. Lastly, “On my iPhone” has 10gbs that can’t be located anywhere, I deleted all downloads etc. Not a huge deal but it’s a hell of a bug. When I have too much time I’ll have to do a factory reset but I can’t risk it yet. Offloaded many apps, don’t use them too much so not a problem. It must be due to iCloud or just temp files that refuse to leave.

Definitely not imessages. 140gb of something. Your fix will work but it's not possible for me at the moment. Support is attempting to help me but is failing.

Off topic but half of my 256gb iPhone is taken up by the very vague “other”.

“Get out of here! Go back to Rome. You're young and the world is yours. I'm old. I don't want to hear you talk anymore. I want to hear others talking about you. Don't come back. Don't think about us. Don't look back. Don't write. Don't give in to nostalgia. Forget us all. If you do and you come back, don't come see me. I won't let you in my house. Understand?“ Cinema Paradiso
techer··on India's artisanal fountain pens are making their mark
A combination of a good fountain pen that matches your own writing (price doesn't matter) and good quality paper is an asset to me, not a handicap. The ink flows, the hand to pen to paper feeling/feedback/sound brings out words and sentences that typing doesn't.

Not saying you claimed it was Chinese but FYI.
