Yes and I've seen reports of it being an ENTIRE GOOGLE ACCOUNT BAN.

I don't want to mess with antigravity because my google account is too entrenched in my life.

tcoff91··on I don't like passkeys
I'd still prefer password+2fa+backup codes for email.
tcoff91··on I don't like passkeys
Just spitballing here, but it seems like a good mix of phishing resistance & lockout recovery would be to have passkey-only auth, but with email recovery.

So no password login, but then you can recover your account by adding an additional passkey by receiving an email.

tcoff91··on LG denies TV spying claims, says tracking and snooping concerns 'not true'
It could have been something as simple as lingering on some kind of content related to physical therapy on a social media feed before scrolling past it, or maybe your wife googled it and it got correlated via network?
tcoff91··on GrapheneOS' rewritten Messages app is released
For those of us out of the loop, could someone summarize the situation?
tcoff91··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
Also, the back 'button' is mostly a thing of the past in Android and it's more similar to iOS now with the predictive back gesture.

The Android back button is legacy.

And on top of that, they're losing the ability to ship hotfixes over the air and will always be at the mercy of apple & google to deliver their updates.
tcoff91··on Shopify moves back to Native from React Native
It's incredibly easy nowadays to drop down to native from react native where you need to.
tcoff91··on Shopify moves back to Native from React Native
I work on an open source app that uses a shared swift core for the iOS and android apps and I think it's awesome. I think having all your business logic in swift is great.

At work, we use react native, and although the upgrades and stuff are painful, I'd never give up the ability to ship over the air updates.

tcoff91··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
Over the air updates is SO valuable with react-native. Being able to ship hotfixes instantly to our users has saved our asses multiple times.

I absolutely love jj (just check my HN comment history). One thing I'd love to see in jj though that git does better is copy tracking. If somebody renames a file upstream, and you go to rebase your commit that touches that file onto main, jj doesn't handle this very well compared to git.

Do you have any idea if this is coming to jj soon?

tcoff91··on Automating Immersive Reading
Even if you don't use the immersive reading feature, it's really nice to be able to switch back & forth from reading to listening. It's nice to be able to start reading right from the sentence where you left off listening to the audiobook. Storyteller is a great e-reader and audiobook player regardless of if you use the immersive reading.

Also, it's just fun to have the audio narration as you read. I typically set the speed to like 2.5x when doing readaloud.

tcoff91··on Automating Immersive Reading
Storyteller works great for this. It even syncs your position across devices. So when I really want to settle in to read, I go ahead and switch from my iPhone where I was listening to my Boox e-ink reader which syncs right to where I left off.
tcoff91··on Bookshelf – Self-hosted eBook library that runs on object storage
Could you link to this Apogee app? i'm interested to see other apps in the space.

On-device alignment is coming in Storyteller v3 apps.

tcoff91··on Bookshelf – Self-hosted eBook library that runs on object storage
Yes, that's it.

Also here are the links to the mobile apps:

tcoff91··on Bookshelf – Self-hosted eBook library that runs on object storage
The storyteller mobile apps have supported readaloud for years. You can even set different playback speeds for readaloud vs listening, so when you background the app or lock your phone screen, it will switch from the readaloud speed to the listening speed. I typically use like 2.25x for readaloud and 1.5x for listening.
tcoff91··on Bookshelf – Self-hosted eBook library that runs on object storage
You should check out Storyteller. It aligns ebooks with audiobooks to create EPUB3s with media overlays so you can do immersive reading. It also gives you a place to organize your audiobooks and epub library.
tcoff91··on IPFS Maintainers Winding Down
Iroh looks so incredibly exciting, I can't wait to play with it.
tcoff91··on KOReader
There's a KOReader plugin that lets you sync your progress to a Storyteller server.

https://github.com/Sirozha1337/storytellersync.koplugin

https://storyteller-platform.dev/

This then allows you seamlessly switch back and forth between your e-reader and listening to the audiobook on your phone with automatic position syncing.

tcoff91··on Why Software Factories Fail (or: harness engineering is not enough)
I very much remember whose PRs I can trust and whose PRs are likely to be slop, and I prioritize my time accordingly.

Slop merchants get slop reviews. I just point my clanker at their PRs and ask them to critically review the PR and they typically find lots of issues.

tcoff91··on Why Software Factories Fail (or: harness engineering is not enough)
PRs sucked to review long before Agents were a thing, but now it really sucks because there are more to review.
tcoff91··on Why Software Factories Fail (or: harness engineering is not enough)
Opus 4.5 was a massive step change in capability for sure. The opinions of anyone who hasn't bothered experimenting with these things post-Opus-4.5 are not worth a damn.

They still are far from perfect but they're massively helpful.

tcoff91··on Why I am not going to buy a computer
1-shotting documentation with AI is a bad idea. You then have to have multiple verification passes to have any chance of it being worth anything.

Like if you have an AI generate a runbook, then you better have the AI actually validate the runbook and make sure it is correct.

tcoff91··on FreeInk: Open ecosystem for e-readers
I think it’s possible to use koreader and sync to storyteller with a plugin on that xteink but I’ve never set anything like that up.
tcoff91··on FreeInk: Open ecosystem for e-readers
I really like my Boox e-reader because I can install any android app on it. I run Storyteller on it and it syncs position to my storyteller server. So i can listen to the audiobook on my iPhone and then pick up reading on my Boox from where I was listening.
tcoff91··on My car’s OTA update broke Android Auto
There's 2 different parts of their terms about this. One seems to forbid it. The other basically says that you can do it as long as you aren't shipping some kind of update to the app that changes its nature significantly. Basically the generally accepted viewpoint in the industry is that you can OTA bugfixes and small changes but you if you ship whole features without going through app store review first you are definitely on thin ice.
tcoff91··on My car's OTA update broke Android Auto, and it's a indictment of modern software
You can't update any AOT code due to how code signing works in these OS. And Apple completely bans JIT on iOS and iPadOS.
tcoff91··on Sleep regularity is a stronger predictor of mortality risk than sleep duration (2023)
Never taking a supplement for too long is great advice. Always cycle things in and out to avoid some potential for accumulating too much in the body.

There are some horrifying case studies where people took like too much zinc, or copper, or some other thing for years and got really really messed up.

tcoff91··on Sleep regularity is a stronger predictor of mortality risk than sleep duration (2023)
A lot of doctors only want to do a more critical set like like triglycerides, c-reactive protein, cholesterol, stuff like that. I've never had a doctor proactively want to test things like b vitamin levels.
tcoff91··on Sleep regularity is a stronger predictor of mortality risk than sleep duration (2023)
it's easy to find 0.3mg melatonin online.
