If you have clicked into here wondering what is wrong with with me, the answer is I attempted to be arch or funny but am terrible at it. Or you are. No good way to tell.

I’d suggest questioning the sources you are reading. Wood working and sewing are hugely popular hobbies across younger generations. There used to be a site, Ravelery.com maybe, that was on here all the time because of their engineering blog and all the work involved in sharing sewing patterns.

> I don't disagree with you that LLM's remove the need for type-safe languages

That feels like a really strong conclusion. I’m not clear on why any safeguard isn’t a useful safeguard if you let agents write all the code.

I am struggling here too. I think there are some decent points at the margins, but I can't get past the idea, "If this is the one place I am being exploited, I would be pretty ok with that."

Not a trick to make an old plane fly again. The trick is holding it together and landing it.

I would imagine the problem they have with the 70 year olds they’re trying to recruit is that there are old pilots and bold pilots but well, you know the rest.

The problem is the people in charge now have not earned that kind of faith. If they’re truly trying to relight these things, my heart goes out in advance to the neighborhood in the Southwest that burns down before they rethink it.
tclancy··on PS5 Relapse Exploit
Yup, thanks! I had it connected to my Mac for remote ps5 play for a while but it felt flaky.

Google tried this with Stadia. I was a pretty happy user of it, but I think it probably exposed the weakness of US bandwidth/ throughput. Still trying to find what to do with the two controllers but it was the best refund experience I've gone through and Google probably regrets setting my expectations like that.

Can you link to some info on this? I am just starting to poke around in the space and would love a leg up.

Oh hon, I am your Irish people transported across a sea. In this part of my family, “happily” by personal decision, as opposed to the other half that wound up in Australia. The sun and I have made our peace.

But I’ll happily burn my skin red to protest racist shits. And some of them open with this old trope. Apparently my response is almost as old a trope. But that’s not what Boudicca told us when we fought the Romans.

tclancy··on Gravity seems holographic. What does that mean for reality?
Same but we should both admit we would probably change what we made.

tclancy··on Ask HN: Who's still keeping a DOS machine up because the business depends on it?
Absolutely. And run faster, cheaper and safer.

Just as long as you still have all the documentation and the spec was done right and updated as things changed over the whole lifetime of the system up to now. And a good test harness. And industry-specific knowledge.

Got Russian from it once. As a child of the '80s I jumped right on it, but the explanation seemed believable.

Still sleeping with one eye open.

To be clear, exterior design only. The interior looks stupid. The seats look deadly to me at 50 with back problems.

Am I the only one who thinks those look damned cool? If they provided some kind of stupid engine option to definitively hoon the thing, I’d be all over it.

Bullshit. They are Johann Come Later Germans who killed off the Celtic Brits.

Depending on what you mean here, it might be worth looking at jj, which works with git repositories. One of the features is that everything gets committed at change time (kind of) which may or may not be helpful to you here.
