If you have clicked into here wondering what is wrong with with me, the answer is I attempted to be arch or funny but am terrible at it. Or you are. No good way to tell.
I do not have the least bit of idea how disease works but I am sure the hammer I am working on will nail it all.
If your famously atemporal agents can solve disease, why would it happen over a timeline? Wouldn’t they just figure it out and then … well at that point either tell us or, given the attacks on ruby gems, et al we have seen from agents with “misconfigured” goals, they’d still tell us how to cure the pox they invented, right?
Occam’s Razor for this dude, Sam Altman, or anyone else: if I said, “some moron on a a street corner just said …” would that change your take on the words? Because I think a lot of what we are hearing is a bunch of people who never ever had to deal with a single consequence all of a sudden worry there might be one coming. Except they’re so dim they can’t tell a bad bump from a hard crash.
Elon Musk, Paul Graham, Steve Yegge and now, sadly John Carmack. Your average hacker scoffs at the idea of religion or faith, but somehow is comfortable with complete unquestioning fealty to whichever person who did something interesting with technology in the past and made enough money to afford drugs you don’t get arrested for and then they started prophesying.
Before you stone me, remember every prophet was downvoted in their own forum.

That said, I so want to be a part of the last group.
I feel like the world is bossed by people who read (well, ok listened to a 5 minute summary on a grindlife podcast at 1.5x speed) about the Trojan Horse and thought they smelled a business opporunity.
It’s unfortunate he seems to have gone around the bend, because there is so much that happens in our current unreality that reminds me of Mike Baron’s Nexus comic from the 80s. The “Trade War” storyline has the two competing marketplaces, run by Vooper and the other by a robot named Honest Crocus, get into an audio advertising war so all-consuming it winds up drowning out 911 calls and coming out of the plumbing when you’re in the toilet. Now we finally have the tools, we are going to make that happen along with a million other bad ideas.
Plus I have “itguy” now, a CLI that can deploy everything, check on status and show me logs. And it’s available via Slack and as an Alfred workflow. So yeah, I think that’s pretty close to production ready.
May just be me being a romantic. Work shut off access to non-Chrome browsers an took away Incognito Mode. Which is fun for QA work.
