tayo42··on Another GitHub outage in the same day
> people think it's the engineering teams that are the problem;

It could be, some people are just terrible at their job. Lots of teams have low quality standards for their work.

Maybe that still comes down to leaders but for different reasons. You can ship useless features without downtime.

tayo42··on Another GitHub outage in the same day
Who is it?
tayo42··on Vouch
i think you can go earlier then that. reminds me kind of rep systems on message boards. which got abused.
tayo42··on The AI boom is causing shortages everywhere else
I generally agree, but I think for some of the most interesting problems in computer science you need resources that only companies can provide and thats basically work.
tayo42··on Software factories and the agentic moment
I'll have 1 of what ever this guy's got please.
tayo42··on Coding agents have replaced every framework I used
Wouldn't frameworks be better for Ai?

They're used more frequently, I couldn't imagine in python there's more examples of web servers from scratch then using flask or Django?

Frameworks provide a layer of abstraction, so the code is denser, which will use less tokens, and put less code in the prompt.

tayo42··on Why I Joined OpenAI
They're going to grow either way. Those new workloads are going to be run
tayo42··on How to effectively write quality code with AI
I was just thinking this the other day after I did a coding screen and didn't do well. I know the script for the interviewee is your not suppsed to write any code until you talk through the whole thing, but I think i woukd have done better if I could have just wrote a bunch of throw away code to iterate on.
tayo42··on GitHub Actions is slowly killing engineering teams
The internet makes me feel like the only person that doesn't mind Jenkins. Idk it just gets the job done ime.
tayo42··on It's 2026, Just Use Postgres
I feel like this is selling redis short on its features.

Im also curious about benchmark results.

tayo42··on Claude Opus 4.6
i had claude make a snake clone and fix all the flickering in like 20 minutes with the library mentioned lol
tayo42··on Claude Opus 4.6
Thats pretty interesting looking, thanks!
tayo42··on Claude Opus 4.6
Is this a react feature or did they build something to translate react to text for display in the terminal?
tayo42··on Study: emotional support from social media found to reduce anxiety
> Don't think TV had this kind of a hold on people.

Tvs in the bedroom, living rooms, kitchens, they're centerpieces of rooms. Sports on all day on weekends. They got put into cars. I get together with older family and they'll put the TV on and we sit around it.

They only thing with TV is it wasn't convenient enough to be in our pockets all day.

tayo42··on I miss thinking hard
Probably like most businesses issues, it's a people problem. They have to care in the first place and idk if you can make people who don't care starting caring.

I agree the info is out there about how to run effective meetings.

tayo42··on Claude Code for Infrastructure
> I didn't want CC to SSH into a prod machine from where it is running locally (real problem!). I wanted to lock down the tools it can run to be only on sandboxes while also giving it autonomy to create sandboxes and not have access to anything else.

This is already the modern way to run infra. If your running simple apps, why are you even spinning up vms? Container running platforms make this so easy.

tayo42··on I miss thinking hard
Just have better meetings

If we could I think we would be doing that...

tayo42··on I miss thinking hard
> I tried getting back in touch with physics, reading old textbooks. But that wasn’t successful either. It is hard to justify spending time and mental effort solving physics problems that aren’t relevant or state-of-the-art

I tried this with physics and philosophy. I think i want to do a mix of hard but meaningful. For academic fields like that its impossible for a regular person to do as a hobby. Might as well just do puzzles or something.

tayo42··on How vibe coding is killing open source
As I think about it, I think lowering the barrier to entry does generally ruin things

The internet is worse off.

The sports I participate in got cheaper to start with and are worse. Cultures worse.

What has gotten better because the barrier to entry is lower?

tayo42··on Ask HN: Anyone else struggle with how to learn coding in the AI era?
Imo you need to struggle to learn and make things click.

I don't see why even with Ai you won't need to have a solid understanding of the parts of computing programing is built on top of.

Even if your prompting, you need to know what to prompt for. How are you going to ask it to make it faster if you don't know it can be faster, or if you waste time on trying to make something faster that can't be?

Go through something like cs classes from MIT and do the work.

tayo42··on ICE protester says her Global Entry was revoked after agent scanned her face
You barely talk to the the border agents on the regular line though. What are they really doing to check you? Its the same simple questions, where are you going, wheres home, anything to declare then you go through. The regular line for citizens is only long because there's a lot of people in it, not because they're doing anything special.
tayo42··on Al is killing programming and the Python community
People make the same posts in the rust subreddit

Unless we need to go to languages even harder? Haskell?

tayo42··on ICE protester says her Global Entry was revoked after agent scanned her face
What do you think i mean by "fast pass"?

Yeah it is faster, because less people have it. The line is shorter.

Pay to skip the line, it's not like they're doing anything special at the border.

tayo42··on ICE protester says her Global Entry was revoked after agent scanned her face
How can you say that's not true when Ive crossed the border and been asked the same silly questions they ask on the regular line? Its just faster because the line is shorter.
tayo42··on ICE protester says her Global Entry was revoked after agent scanned her face
Global entry is just a fast pass for getting through the border.

I can't tell any difference between arriving with global entry or using the regular lane. Who ever is working the border asks the same dumb questions that they ask in the regular line.

tayo42··on Swift is a more convenient Rust (2023)
Could that happen today though? I think python started in a very different world then today.

Alot of its current popularity is becasue big companies developed the libraries that make up the foundation of Ai with it.

tayo42··on Film students who can no longer sit through films
TV shows are basically mini movies, multiple episodes allows for much more interesting stories and development
tayo42··on Top engineers at Anthropic, OpenAI say AI now writes 100% of their code
I think agents and claude code was only last summer. It does feel like a long time though.
tayo42··on Top engineers at Anthropic, OpenAI say AI now writes 100% of their code
I feel like collectively we should just stop talking about this and speculating and just see what happens in a year.

Is programming obsolete, or is it needed more then ever becasue we need to fix all the crap generated. Let's just all follow up at the end of the year.

Itll be quiet though if we're still hand writing code though I think
