Assuming your kids enjoy living this exact lifestyle, and don't end up leaving, big assumption.

Do you know how many people are buying smart tooth brushes for their kids to ignore, digital picture frames that there parents don't use, and smart appliances they use once a year? This is a drop in the ocean.

Yeah, it's the only place I know of where I can order from 1,000s of products and have them delivered the next day...

Are they not? Dog licenses require rabies shots, and vets require checkups for shots at least around here.

I remember going back in 2015. Biggest thing I remember were the "Smart" fabrics that would be integrated into your clothing for interacting with your devices. It was a cool demo but felt very silly and impractical.

I enjoyed the silent disco and free concerts, but it felt very over the top and expensive, basically just a big ego display for Google.

I can understand now why my company is less eager to send developers to events like these every year.

Having read the book it was still hard to watch that movie without constantly thinking "how is this supposed to make sense"?

Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones had a bit of that, where you know reading the books made the show easier to follow, but that Dune movie felt hollow

Disgruntled employees, estimates based on traffic to/from other websites, analytics from advertisers.

It could be that her daughter has no social media her parents are aware of.

The new Top Gun movie?

I got a retractable screen door for my bedroom door that goes to our back porch. Instead of a swinging screen door it just unhooks and rolls up to the side, and can be pulled back out.

It's great for getting a breeze on nice days, without letting mosquitos in. There was one on the front door when we bought the house, wish I hadn't waited so long as it was super easy to install. Will probably get one for the door to the garage as well this year.

Yea I immediately recognized him, hope he's getting paid for this.

Clean up the mess? How do police clean up a homeless mess? I've never heard of this happening.

Maybe if it was a WW3 scenario, but otherwise where would we get our chips?

It's free though

I'm gonna try to use this to revert the .xcscheme file changes that Xcode makes when I switch between various Xcode versions on my machine. These happen in 10+ submodules everyday so this is great!

Good thing the US doesn't do any of that economic coercion...

I don't think it's the wives of husbands who think too little of crypto that are complaining...

Impressive, but still not really playable on Safari on M1

As someone with 10 years as a software engineer I haven't needed it.

If I go to school for computer science, but have to take chemistry, statistics, etc. And get stuck with a bad professor who spends half the class time ranting about irrelevant topics, cheating makes sense so I can spend my time focused on the classes that matter to me.

Usually I trust Reddit threads where users give pros/cons of multiple competing products. Things like running shoes users have usually tried a lot out and liked them for different reasons. If those match with the one pair I've tried out it seems like a useful data point for decision making.

The US dollar is a global thing as well.

Good lord, maybe Jeff Bezos does deserve to have everyones money.

Next time we have a real war I have a feeling there will be some very interesting dumb "hacks" used against all of these smart weapons.

It would be nice if there were a way for it to "remember" where I left off, or filter stories I've already scrolled past out of the list when I come back.

They were aid to the Afghan government right, and the Taliban took over. We have some sort of peace deal signed with the Taliban. Destroying this stuff probably would have caused retaliation on our evacuation process, or at least that would have been a reasonable fear.

Agreed, the first half was semi-realistic hard science fiction, the second half felt more like fantasy almost. It wasn't bad, but such a huge shift from the first half.

We are two mariners, our ships' sole survivors

In this belly of a whale

Its ribs our ceiling beams, its guts our carpeting

I guess we have some time to kill

- The Mariner’s Revenge Song, The Decemberists

The "store of value" thing was made up to keep the speculation bubble inflating when it became clear Bitcoin had no practical use.

People sit on their phones?
