taormina··on HashiCorp co-founder says GitHub 'no longer a place for serious work'
In the lifespan of Git and GitHub that’s all very recent.
taormina··on HashiCorp co-founder says GitHub 'no longer a place for serious work'
I think I worked at one company that used BitBucket instead of GitHub but GitHub has been the main place for the internal company repos everywhere else I’ve worked. GitHub is quite popular for any sort of git hosting.
taormina··on GitHub Copilot code review will start consuming GitHub Actions minutes
They burned through their goodwill years ago and are insistent on reminding us all that they are now exactly as shitty as Microsoft because they it’s all Microslop worst customer practices.
taormina··on The Visible Zorker: Zork 1
Like with any LLM produced project, can you? Sure. Will it be engaging, well written or consistent? Almost certainly not.
taormina··on An update on recent Claude Code quality reports
You’re still intentionally missing the point. Everyone knows they are lying. It doesn’t excuse the lies!
taormina··on An update on recent Claude Code quality reports
Listen, no one cares if you think you’re smart for seeing through the lies of their marketing team. You’re being intentionally obtuse.
taormina··on Changes to GitHub Copilot individual plans
PSA: You only have about 36 hours left to opt-out!
taormina··on Changes to GitHub Copilot individual plans
They just altered this deal for everyone else. Wonder how long they will wait before default opting you all into training too?
taormina··on The beginning of scarcity in AI
Having used Claude Code extensively, catastrophic is a perfect word to describe it.
taormina··on Backblaze has stopped backing up OneDrive and Dropbox folders and maybe others
That's why Microsoft isn't a company that relies on trust and doesn't really care about it. They rely on inertia to continue to exist because they used to be popular and so now we can't just get rid of them all at once.
taormina··on Maine is about to become the first state to ban major new data centers
Between Austin and San Antonio is so developed that it's considered by many to be a single "metro" area, DFW-style. There's very little not developed directly between the two.
taormina··on Maine is about to become the first state to ban major new data centers
If they think this is progress, I call that a catastrophic failure. The other party has nearly started WW3, but let’s make sure that a state no one wanted a data center in can’t have one. Great strides for the progressive community. A single non-win.
taormina··on Meta removes ads for social media addiction litigation
They already have ethics classes in college. The unethical already don’t care. Students already do basic research but when the market is so shit, do you really expect them to permanently hamstring their careers by torpedoing their only offer? Especially given that as a fresh college grad, it’s not like anyone cares about your opinion anyways. So let’s guilt the vaguely ethical ones into never getting involved and leaving all the sociopaths to run the show. This is an idea destined for success.
taormina··on AI has suddenly become more useful to open-source developers
Can I get your magical version of Opus that works? 4.6 has been a side grade at best, and worse than prior models most days.
taormina··on Anatomy of the .claude/ Folder
Exactly!
taormina··on Supreme Court Sides with Cox in Copyright Fight over Pirated Music
The community does, but the corporations have made not contributing back to their communities an international sport. There's an incredibly strong argument to be made that property taxes (and frankly, ALL taxes) are much higher than they should be because of the repeated tax breaks/loopholes/backroom deals that get them out of paying their fair share. So who pays for that? The rest of us.
taormina··on ArXiv declares independence from Cornell
$71k?! Well, that’s 4, 4.5 students worth of tuition then.
taormina··on ArXiv declares independence from Cornell
Given that Cornell charges what, $50k a year as an Ivy League, $300k feels like almost nothing.
taormina··on Austin’s surge of new housing construction drove down rents
The house prices DID go down here in Austin.
taormina··on Austin’s surge of new housing construction drove down rents
Have you seen Tokyo?
taormina··on How scientists are using Claude to accelerate research and discovery
What quotes? This is an AI summary that may or may not have summarized actual quotes from the researchers, but I don't see a single quote in this article, or a source.
taormina··on AI coding assistants are getting worse?
I can’t go a full a full conversation without obviously false claims. They will insist you are correct and that your correction is completely correct despite that also being wrong.
taormina··on Creators of Tailwind laid off 75% of their engineering team
Tell Uber you said hi.
taormina··on Dark Pattern Games
For a bit of shameless plug, we're actively building a mobile and desktop game that avoids these patterns.

taormina··on A definition of AGI
See, humans respond very differently when that happens. The failure to do what humans do when they don’t understand something or know something is frequently what fails LLMs at the TT.
taormina··on Claude Skills are awesome, maybe a bigger deal than MCP
I haven't tried that, it might be worth a shot.
taormina··on Claude Skills are awesome, maybe a bigger deal than MCP
Nah, it's definitely not that. I have it explicitly several times over in that file and it insists on commenting so much it's absurd.
taormina··on Jeff Bezos says AI is in a bubble but society will get 'gigantic' benefits
Taxi-by-app existed pre-Uber, the innovation was making the taxi actual show up. Austin had the apps, and I would order one, and the taxis would get distracted on the way to my house and pick up other fares, so I couldn't go where I wanted. They had every chance to not be outcompeted by Uber, but they couldn't stop being taxis. And, here we are.
taormina··on Introduction to Multi-Armed Bandits (2019)
I’ve found this all to be just as straightforward as implementing the MAB in my experience.
taormina··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2025)
I'm still working on Danger World (https://danger.world), my casual 2D narrative adventure with turn-based RPG elements. Built in Flame, on top of Flutter for iOS, Android, Windows and MacOS.

We're getting close! It's just a matter of polishing and polishing and polishing, but I'm really excited about how close we are to launch.
