tanjtanjtanj··on Ford kills the All-Electric F-150
I see it, at least weekly, at a Costco in Texas. Not just the pallet stuff but refrigerated goods and smaller stuff (gathered in boxes as is the custom at Costco)
tanjtanjtanj··on Meta shuts down global accounts linked to abortion advice and queer content
He "defended" his case but not fully and certainly not successfully. The case was thrown out when he reassumed office and never tried.

I'm genuinely curious where you heard otherwise.

tanjtanjtanj··on Peter Thiel's Apocalyptic Worldview Is a Dangerous Fantasy
Jacobin is not a whole journal on literal communism.

It’s a magazine with a professed socialist view point but it’s more aligned with left-of-center American politics. Think Sanders or Mamdani rather than Stalin or Mao.

tanjtanjtanj··on We're learning more about what Vitamin D does
How did you get dust mites entirely out of your house?
tanjtanjtanj··on Jakarta is now the biggest city in the world
Are you from Mumbai? or a place with notably bad AQI? Do you smoke?

Mumbai is one of the most polluted cities on earth, many people report being unable to perform aerobic exercise or describe breathing the air as being similar to smoking.

tanjtanjtanj··on Jakarta is now the biggest city in the world
I mean there are widely spoken regional dialects that make no pitch distinction between the pronounciation of 橋 and 箸. You may get looked down on for not speaking the Queen's English (I mean standard Tokyo Japanese) but you are still speaking fully correct Japanese.
tanjtanjtanj··on Someone at YouTube Needs Glasses: The Prophecy Has Been Fulfilled
... and they let you upload music and have it exist natively in the interface and streamable anywhere you're logged in, the exact feature I was using Google Music for.

Even beyond Apple Music, considering the other competitors I legitimately don't know what the use case for Spotify is beyond social these days.

tanjtanjtanj··on Laptops with Stickers
It entirely, entirely depends on what part of the country you live in. Near me a car with a lot of stickers usually indicates Q anon/Trump/Lets go Brandon etc.
tanjtanjtanj··on I Want You to Understand Chicago
They already did, more or less.

The supreme court ruled that unless your case is virtually a carbon-copy of an existing Bivens case then it doesn't count. The current supreme court does not respect precedent in any meaningful way.

tanjtanjtanj··on From web developer to database developer in 10 years
I didn't attack you, I'm sorry you took it that way.

Have a great day, or whichever passive aggressive sign-off you'd prefer!

tanjtanjtanj··on From web developer to database developer in 10 years
I don’t know your exact circumstances but it sounds like your “decent accountant” was helping you commit tax fraud.
tanjtanjtanj··on Majority of teens hold negative views of news media, says report
Crime is certainly down, assuming you live in a developed country that isn’t one of a couple massively regressing ones.

You are displaying a bias here. Unless there is a “itbeho’s neighborhood gazette” reporting exclusively on what you see through your front window and THEY’RE saying there is no increase in crime then your complaint doesn’t hold.

My grandfather, in the US, was waylaid by actual bandits operating openly on a major US highway in the 1970s. In some cities you couldn’t take public transport without almost surely being victimized.

Crime is very much down and that’s especially true for large cities. Maybe you’ve become overly fixated on the topic or maybe your neighborhood is an outlier but that doesn’t make the statistics “wrong”.

tanjtanjtanj··on Meet the real screen addicts: the elderly
Disaffected male youth almost universally play (or watch people play) video games as their primary form of entertainment.

The point of my comment though, was that it’s not just video game content leading here, it seems to be any male leaning hobby, including weightlifting, sports, tabletop gaming, etc.

tanjtanjtanj··on Valetudo: Cloud replacement for vacuum robots enabling local-only operation
Is it counter-culture to post about Valetudo here when you asked for it not to be or is it only counter-culture when you’re enforcing your preferred social construct?
tanjtanjtanj··on Meet the real screen addicts: the elderly
Or that the youtube algorithm is leading you toward videos that will maximize their metrics (engagement). Video Games is just the example here but I get the same things from other anodyne hobby videos.
tanjtanjtanj··on Why I code as a CTO
Wasn't Mitchell Hashimoto only a non-CxO for a handful of months between stepping down and selling the company?
tanjtanjtanj··on AMD and Sony's PS6 chipset aims to rethink the current graphics pipeline
It feels very weird to not include games like Ratchet & Clank, Returnal, and a few others just because they were later released on PC. Especially when Death Stranding 2 is here and also released on PC.

Sony’s strategy is for almost every game to eventually be on PC as well so it’s not entirely a case of development slowing (although it has).

tanjtanjtanj··on The fight between doctors and insurance companies over 'downcoding'
They're talking about shoplifting. Specifically hiding high dollar items in with their groceries, a practice akin to just adding a little bit extra to a medical bill for services not performed.
tanjtanjtanj··on I spent the day teaching seniors how to use an iPhone
I’ve experienced most of your annoyances but maybe I can help with a few of them!

> .nl to .nul

If you undo the correction on the prompt that comes up in the correction instead of fixing it with backspace or whatever it will stop doing that autocorrect

> No intro at all into UI

There is a very long series of tutorials for using the interface on first phone setup and then for each major update

> Video pauses while when looking at notifications

This depends on the behavior defined by the app. It did not happen when I just checked with YouTube (premium)

> pulldown on center is Siri

It has always been and still is notifications for me, maybe a setting?

> Safari instead of default browser

App defined. Some apps open a safari browser and some open my defined browser (Orion)

> Swipe up to close a picture

And some apps are double tap or even swipe up! What the heck?

> Alarms confusing

You can still set your daily/weekly/whatever alarms in the alarm section of the clock app. I believe this is the main way people set their alarms.

> switching focus by “holding”

Not sure what process you’re talking about but the control tray (swipe down from right side of screen) has a simple focus mode switcher with no acrobatics needed

tanjtanjtanj··on EA Announces Agreement to be Acquired by PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners
Interesting theory but there’s not a chance that it’s true. Anthem had been in development for like 6 years by the time the idea for the Mandalorian was even pitched by Favreau.

The weird story absence was due to the studio trying to make it one of those live-service “forever games” that would make them infinite money.

tanjtanjtanj··on EA Announces Agreement to be Acquired by PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners
So we can’t fault EA for creating an incentive structure that rewards self-destructive behavior on the part of their acquired studios?
tanjtanjtanj··on EA Announces Agreement to be Acquired by PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners
Those are just buyouts not leveraged buyouts.

No EPL team was purchased with an LBO as far as I know.

tanjtanjtanj··on YouTube says it'll bring back creators banned for Covid and election content
I stand by what I said and I think you are interpreting my words uncharitably in order to “win” some argument I’m not a part of.

I am not going into a semantic argument with you over whether my exact wordings match whatever you think I said.

I will however say that both theses put forth by the comment I replied to are false. If you read either article you linked they actually support my point, the Hunter Biden news was extremely widely shared on Facebook and only throttled due to suspicions on Facebook’s part that it may have been inorganic. A particular article (but not the news) was blocked on Twitter based on an existing policy, discussion was still allowed and it was definitely widely discussed and shared.

tanjtanjtanj··on YouTube says it'll bring back creators banned for Covid and election content
> Russiagate

It was never “debunked”, that is far too strong a word. Is it true? Who knows! Should we operate as if it was true without it being proven? Definitely not.

> Hunter’s laptop

In what way was that story buried or hidden? It was a major news story on every news and social network for over half a year. There was only consternation about how the laptop was acquired and who or what helped with that endeavor. The “quieting” of the story is BS and only came about a long time after the fact. Biden’s people sought (unsuccessfully) to have images removed from platforms but there was never an effort to make it seem like the allegations that stemmed from the laptop were misinformation.

tanjtanjtanj··on Compare the New iPhone Models
I have their cheapest unlimited plan.
tanjtanjtanj··on Compare the New iPhone Models
It was $499 with a multi-year contract with AT&T.

AT&T most year offers me a free!* iPhone pro every couple years now so it has actually gone way down.

tanjtanjtanj··on Why Romania excels in international Olympiads
So do what Russia didn’t want them to do and give Russia less than they wanted and they would be like “okay, cool. We won’t invade you then”?

That solution flies in the face of the real world reality.

tanjtanjtanj··on Yamanot.es: A music box of train station melodies from the JR Yamanote Line
Not to create a boring back-and-forth but the page loads perfectly fine for me on safari (both mobile and macOS) and looks exactly the same as it does in Chrome.
tanjtanjtanj··on GLP-1s are breaking life insurance
What does the left-wing or more broadly, political philosophy have to do with that statement?
tanjtanjtanj··on Overtourism in Japan, and how it hurts small businesses
I’ve been to this restaurant. They take cash as payment so I don’t think they are trying to dissuade tourists. Also, just a short few years ago I would say less than 10% of restaurants took any form of electronic payment.
