talldatethrow··on GM electric vehicles can now access Tesla Superchargers
Criminals mug and kill shop owners pretty often. Knowing theres a camera isn't going to stop anyone.
talldatethrow··on GM electric vehicles can now access Tesla Superchargers
I said as soon as criminals figure it out. They don't know people sitting alone in the back of parking lots can't even drive away without getting out first.

It also took them a few years to figure out they could steal the cables. At first they probably thought they were live.

talldatethrow··on GM electric vehicles can now access Tesla Superchargers
At a gas station you can just drive away. In an EV, you can't without getting out where the criminal is.
talldatethrow··on GM electric vehicles can now access Tesla Superchargers
I think as soon as thieves realize cars that are plugged in with drivers inside waiting are not able to drive away without unplugging, there will be a huge surge in crime against people charging their EVs. Then there will be a large surge in people going back to complaining about EVs having too many drawbacks.

At least at a gas station I'm only there for 5 minutes, it's not at the back of some dark parking lot, and I can start the car and drive away if I had to.

talldatethrow··on CUNY paid Oracle $600M for its HR software (2013)
There are tons of body shops that won't even take insurance work because of the low pay and somewhat low standards of work as well.
talldatethrow··on CUNY paid Oracle $600M for its HR software (2013)
Your analogy is somewhat backwards. Insurance companies squeeze body shops pretty well. If you go in there and ask for the same work you will pay more.

The real difference is that often times a person will just say make it look okay and I'll be fine. Whereas insurance work is basically making a car good as new because that is legally required. If you try to get the same level of service at retail you will pay more.

talldatethrow··on How to succeed in MrBeast production (Leaked PDF)
You're really dense. I'm not saying you should live your life how others want you to live it.

I'm saying you should examine why people set the standards they do and check if you agree with those values.

If you want to say "hell be with it, I'll be scum til I die because it makes me feel good" then more power to you. But don't go around saying you're successful. You're a rebel and a loser by most people's standards. Not by all. Even school shooters are respected by SOME for their bravery and determination.

talldatethrow··on How to succeed in MrBeast production (Leaked PDF)
.... I didn't say that.

Just don't be naive and think that societal standards don't exist. And also, possibly give some thought as to why they exist so that you don't go down insane spirals and waste your life only to later understand that the collective had a point.

talldatethrow··on How to succeed in MrBeast production (Leaked PDF)
It wasn't a clever gotcha, and I wasn't patting myself on the back.

I just found it odd that you went through and systematically addressed every section of my post, but that one.

It was taking what in my opinion is a lame point of view, to an extreme, in hopes of helping someone see that it fails at the extremes... Thus maybe you'll think about it and agree with me that in reality someone's own goals and views of themselves don't matter that much because as a whole we as a society have views on what makes a life worth living and what adds value to society.

And yes I think MrBeast systemizing making mindless brain numbing stupid videos for teenagers and kids to be pretty bad for society. I don't care that be produces revenue doing so.

talldatethrow··on How to succeed in MrBeast production (Leaked PDF)
If no one cared what other people thought, why are we even talking on here.

Also, how would you apply your logic to the school shooter question?

talldatethrow··on How to succeed in MrBeast production (Leaked PDF)
People DO make up their definitions, and put together they create a communities standards of success and then eventually a societies.

Would you say a man that spends 40 years working 60 hours a week, alienating all friends and neighbors til he has no friends or anyone that respects him, no kids, no partner, and a group on ex employees that hate him for squeezing them to work under market value? Is he a success just because he accumulated 3x the capital he set out to when he started his business at 20 years old? Then dies suddenly alone, only for everyone that met him to chuckle and move on with their day?

Would that be a success by most people's standards? Does it even matter if it's a success by one person's standards? Are the school shooters a success because they accomplish their goals before death?

talldatethrow··on How to succeed in MrBeast production (Leaked PDF)
Probably by more common definitions held by people OP respects...

For example, millions of people would not call him a success because he doesn't have a family with children (although Mr beast has definitely implied he wants one in the future).

Many millions more would say that he's not a success because he doesn't do anything that's a net positive for society, instead he's mostly a drain on people's time and mental capacity.

talldatethrow··on Six Ideas for Poland
I'd rather be poorer than deal with everything the west is throwing on everyone. A poorer Poland is still a better Poland than a wealthier not so Poland anymore.

And if you want to start a Polish office, hire Polish people. Don't tell me you need Indians and Chinese people. If you can't do it with Polish people because we're too dumb or lazy or uneducated for your business, oh well. Don't just import people. Most poles don't want them.

However bad you think right wing Polish people are, it's probably worse when you're not in the room. So please consider than in your next round of investment.

talldatethrow··on Ask HN: Why is Pave legal?
Totally. I propose we start a brothelBnB next door to your home. Home owner wins, customer wins, worker wins, startup wins! Score! Market has spoken!

I also recommend HoboSleepinCar Driveway as a service next to your home. The consumer has spoken!

talldatethrow··on Six Ideas for Poland
It's not worth taking your investment money if it means destroying one of that last non destroyed European countries.

I moved to the US in 89.

I've watched the US basically be destroyed by policies that basically are even worse over in Europe.

Up until recently, Poland was still a shinning beacon of hope. It's getting worse but hopefully the eastern European rationality kicks in and they wake up before it's too late.

The lefts ideas have made enough places pretty terrible. They don't need to do it to ONE MORE place.

talldatethrow··on Six Ideas for Poland
As a Pole, my biggest anxiety is that Poland will give in and become like the rest of the West.

If they let in migrants (even so many Ukrainians is a problem IMO), if they give in to "diversity is a strength", if they give into equality of outcome instead of equality of opportunity.... The country will be lost.

We're literally down voting personal experiences now?
talldatethrow··on A dishwasher can make or break a restaurant (2017)
If there weren't land lords, where would renters live? Would they build shacks in the forest and fields? Would they build custom homes on lots in the desert? Im not sure if most are capable nor well funded enough. Do we give them houses?
talldatethrow··on Zuckerberg claims regret on caving to White House pressure on content
I'm pretty into right wing blogs and forums. I have yet to see even a glimpse of a Nazi and even anyone that goes beyond "why is half of Bidens Whitehouse Jewish? Isn't that weird? Why do so many politicians have to take a photo in Israel?" That's as 'Nazi' as it gets.
talldatethrow··on Apple to upgrade base Macs to 16GB RAM, starting from Apple M4 models
I agree with you. I was responding to the guy that said his is fine..... As if that proves anything. So I gave the 300k mile example of the most troubled transmission in the industry.
talldatethrow··on Apple to upgrade base Macs to 16GB RAM, starting from Apple M4 models
There are some people with 300k on their original Chevy Silverado transmission. But there are MANY people that have them blow up every 100k miles. So, would you say the 4l60e is a good transmission because yours went 300k?

Im in the Central valley and have helped at least 5 friends replace or rebuild theirs. If you visit a transmission shop, this is the transmission that keeps them in business because it's one of the few cars where someone will still spend $3k to fix a 20 year old car.

talldatethrow··on NASA announces Boeing Starliner crew will return on SpaceX Crew-9
I know two MIT grads that then went on to work at Boeing as mechanical engineers.

They are not impressive at all on almost any subject you talk to them about. Not for Boeing engineers and definitely not as MIT grads.

I don't think they could handle the coursework at Cal IMO, and I thought MIT was even more difficult.

They do seem like a very good example of diversity DEI type admission and hiring. And these kinds of Boeing problems might be the result.

talldatethrow··on Meta cancels high-end mixed reality headset after Apple Vision Pro struggles
It's not dry eyes but more the 'muscles' in the eye that feel fatigued. I don't remember if it's from focusing or moving the actual eyeball around in an attempt to see edges of the screen instead of moving my head.
talldatethrow··on Did you lose your AirPods?
Yet when you actually use them, they retain basic the same energy capacity???
talldatethrow··on Did you lose your AirPods?
If Person A loses 1% over a week in standby, and person B loses 20% overnight, it's probably not the battery..

Unless Person B also tells you that in general their air pods only last 30 minutes playing music.

As stated, their percentage of power level fall vs person A is 2000% more being generous (person A said a week, not a night). If it was because of the battery, the air pods would also last way way way less playing music.

talldatethrow··on Meta cancels high-end mixed reality headset after Apple Vision Pro struggles
I feel like I have spectacular eyes. I can read absurdly small texts that shocks other people, great low light, yada yada.

The quest2 made my eyes hurt after just using it for maybe half an hour. Tried it a few times over several weeks and decided that my vision is worth more than some entertainment.

I'm not sure how they're going to get around that aspect.

talldatethrow··on Eli Lilly's weight loss drug slashes the risk of diabetes in long-term trial
Population that spends more every decade and gets less healthy, vs senior citizen that gets off all his meds by changing his eating habits by trying juice for 90 days.

Gotta go with the tried and trusted med industry.

talldatethrow··on Eli Lilly's weight loss drug slashes the risk of diabetes in long-term trial
Definitely. I'm not saying that 10 lbs of vegetables a day is healthy or anything. That would be crazy. You gotta add processed hormone injected meats, boiled dairy, and preservatives to get a healthy balanced diet.
talldatethrow··on Eli Lilly's weight loss drug slashes the risk of diabetes in long-term trial
For sure. Pepsi, or beet juice. Same thing! And if you eat them whole, I bet they're just like candy too in your opinion!
talldatethrow··on Eli Lilly's weight loss drug slashes the risk of diabetes in long-term trial
My dad was like you. At age 61 I finally got him to try 90 days of only fresh home squeezed/extracted vegetable juice. Technically all his calories those 3 months came from the sugars in the vegetables (celery, beets, carrots, cucumbers, tomato, orange).

All his markers improved, even diabetic markers, and blood pressure. He's off the 3 meds he was on.
