talaketu··on Australia’s new mass surveillance mandate
The Australian Constitution is heavyweight on the mechanics of federal government, and how heads of power are divided between the state and federal governments, and the role of the court to adjudicate, but quite lightweight on peoples "inalienable rights". There's no "bill of rights" - though there are certain principals like "natural justice" and "customary law". Parliaments are empowered to legislate, and that's what they do. So it's comparatively rare that the court will discover some basis to neuter legislation - though it does happen.

You might find some eminent agreement[1], though to be fair he was talking about relational DBMS, not SQL DBMS. See rule 0 and 1:

Even table names, column names and domain names are represented as character strings in some tables. Tables containing such names are normally part of the built-in system catalog. The catalog is accordingly a relational data base itself — one that is dynamic and active and represents the metadata (data describing the rest of the data in the system)

So, your original post was a question, and I answered it.

But maybe your question was rhetorical and masked an overall point you are now trying to clarify. But I still don't understand the point your making!

Are you trying to absolve YouTube of any moral responsibility, while personifying with them with agency ("they have reasons", "they feel like it", "the degree that serves them", "they care") and granting them rights ("1st amendment")?

As for what really motivates corporations - I believe survival, not profit, is the essential goal. Profit is just one strategy - but another is not poisoning it's own environment.

One might expect a publisher to pay particular attention to the content they promote.
talaketu··on Uno – the “unit” for dimensionless quantities
"The fund charges 5bp" doesn't make sense to me!

I understand basis points to be absolute difference in some rate, where the rate was expressed as a percentage. So, if the interest rate was raised from 5% to 5.25%, we don't say the increase was 0.25% (because that could be interpreted as understating the change) and we don't say the increase was 20% (0.25% / 5%) because likewise that would overstate the change. We say the increase was 25 basis points to avoid any confusion.

UNESCO currently has "significant concern" for the World Heritage of the Great Barrier Reef - and this classification has been held for years now, well before any current tensions with China.

talaketu··on Police playing music while being filmed, seemingly to trigger copyright filters
They are pointing out that the codified law is applicable, not what you claim was the original purpose.

(I don't agree with you that the original purpose was restricted to protecting revenue. The original purpose of copyright law is to codify the moral rights associated with creative works. Moral rights are fundamentally a property right connecting the work to the person. When we hear that an artist tries to prevent their works being distorted by being associated with a certain political campaign, this is an appeal to this kind of right, not revenue.)

talaketu··on Police playing music while being filmed, seemingly to trigger copyright filters
It's not really about the purpose - it's about the rights. And it's rights in the plural - not just right to revenue - but also the exclusive right to public performance.
talaketu··on Police playing music while being filmed, seemingly to trigger copyright filters
Not a stretch, considering this is their intent. See in particular the 2nd point from 17 U.S. Code § 101 - Definitions

To perform or display a work “publicly” means—
  (1) to perform or display it at a place open to the public or at any place where a substantial number of persons outside of a normal circle of a family and its social acquaintances is gathered; or
  (2) to transmit or otherwise communicate a performance or display of the work to a place specified by clause (1) or to the public, by means of any device or process, whether the members of the public capable of receiving the performance or display receive it in the same place or in separate places and at the same time or at different times.
talaketu··on REST vs. GraphQL – A search for evidence on which is better
REST endpoints typically return data I don't need. For example, the twitter REST API `/1.1/users/show.json?screen_name=twitterdev` it will show me the last tweet for the user. Presumably this involves perhaps waiting for tweet service when the client may not even want the tweet. A GraphQL client can be more explicit about what edges to select.

How do you model "postal address"? Some postal addresses are PO Boxes, some are street addresses, etc. There are canonical representations of these different cases. Do we just shove it all in a string, and let the application perform domain validation?
talaketu··on We didn't encrypt your password, we hashed it
That part doesn't follow from the metaphor.

And as far as operational security is concerned, this fixates on just that one threat that the author talks about at the end, which depends on weak password.

talaketu··on We didn't encrypt your password, we hashed it
Your wordy metaphor misses the point that Troy Hunt was making - that the original password can still be found out by someone other than the owner.

Abstractions are drawn along different axes in both OOP and FP.

The showcase example "Circle, Square, Rectangles are kinds of Shapes that have area" represents an abstraction that is present in the conceptual schema (aka Domain Model, aka Universe of Discourse, aka "problem space"), regardless of implementation style.

Likewise, what you call "mathematical abstraction" (and I'd prefer to call a "implementation model") is present both in OOP (eg "visitor pattern, inheritance, facade") and in FP (eg "fold, pattern match, monad"). I don't really think the difficulty in groking "visitor" is much different from groking "fold".

talaketu··on Plan the Sprint, Not the Project
Business software projects can have very clear requirements known months in advance. Eg a project to ensure we comply with newly legislated tax regime. Yes, details will be discovered as the regulations are released, but to embark on that project with a 2-4 week planning horizon would be malpractice.

"plans are useless, but planning is indispensible".
