Me being a co-founder of a start-up too, any insight on hiring that gives us a better chance to get good coders is worth a post on HN :)
http://bjfogg.com/ http://captology.stanford.edu/ http://behaviorgrid.org/ http://behaviormodel.org/ - this model is powerful and makes zillions for ones who know how to apply it to their products
I designed more then 10 of my habits this way and they stick.
After years of coding one develops their coding personality that they're happy with and I think their code has just a right mix of carelessness and precision which could be never learned from a script kiddie book.
According to BJ Fogg of Stanford on Simplicity, one person is always floating in cartesian plane with time/money changing all the time and being a function of age, location, time of day.
One might have time and is not prepared to spend money and vice versa. And this can change during the day. So, if one gets a brand exposure in the morning when they have spare time to re-type two brand words, they might not have time in the afternoon when they're located at brand outlet, so they'll spend money.
Fukime might be more like candy machine for prototyping and developers who want to make things happen quickly and just focus on client development.
So we switched to Thrift and whole FB stack with HipHop and Scribe and we're thrilled. Documentation is a problem just at the beginning when setting up the stack. Everything else later is self explanatory.
