tacomagick··on Owners mourn spoiled food after firmware update bricks Samsung smart fridges
Why is the fridge's cooling system is one with the smart features? They should be kept completely separate

tacomagick··on Gemini 2.5 models extended indefinitely for aactive users
What is still interesting about Gemini 2.5? Is it still used for image classification?
tacomagick··on Forgot your phone PIN? Google could look to past to save you from factory reset
This is horrible.
tacomagick··on MiMo v2.6
OpenAI had to cut costs because of Anthropic. I also do not trust the benchmarks when it comes to models anymore. I have tried both Claude and OpenAI models and while it is true that the 5.6 series is smarter than Deepseek (at the time i tested it against 4.0) at that price it is still not worth it and sometimes randomly refuses to do tasks or stops midway etc.

Do also remember China is this far in the AI race despite all chip restrictions from America. If they were in equal standards I truly think Chinese models would have long surpassed American ones. Also would like to remind how Anthropic CEO is being hostile and blaming Chinese models with distilling meanwhile their own models claimed to be Qwen¹ and their stance against open models is negative² and they still keep blaming China for it.

tacomagick··on MiMo v2.6
Absolutely! Chinese models are both cheaper and more capable in many cases, compared to the American models and their makers continuously fumbling or reducing model capability with each update. Deepseek decreased costs when they released Flash 4.1 you would not see any American company do this, in reverse they would try charge you more.
tacomagick··on GNU/Linux Has Grown a Lot Lately
I don't see a reason not to call them Clownflare.
tacomagick··on Heretic removes restrictions from language models
I personally never saw much of a quality drop from models put through Heretic if that amounts to anything. They have been working quite well on small local models so far.
tacomagick··on Kev: Tiny Jev-like family of decision models built on top of Qwen3.5

tacomagick··on Introducing GNOME 51, "A Coruña"
Really? I have been struggling to get mine to work on my Asus laptop. I guess I have a driver problem more than anything. Thanks for letting me know!
tacomagick··on Running a personal website is not fun anymore
I think Hugo is enough, if you want a web admin interface or an editor it goes into the CMS region which becomes bulky and hard to manage compared to just editing a few .md files under Hugo.
tacomagick··on Spotify lets parents exclude kids' music from Wrapped and recommendations
Has this been a thing? AFAIK after removing the Family Mix from the daily playlists there is nothing merging accounts under a family plan other than a Blend.
tacomagick··on Libinput 1.32 Released with Circular Scrolling Support for Circular Touchpads
This could be useful for Asus' dialpads too i think? Letting them have a use case under Linux as a scroll wheel I wonder how well it would work.
tacomagick··on Introducing GNOME 51, "A Coruña"
The accelerometer rotation feature will be an awesome addition, I think so far there is no DE that lets you do that without some custom scripts. I have to test that out real soon. Windows used to handle that pretty good (if you ignore wallpapers breaking etc.) so it was one of the stopping points for users who just want a Linux that works for their AIO laptops.
tacomagick··on HarnessTax: How Much Does the Harness Matter for Coding Agents?
Moving from CC I can agree OpenCode seems very simple. I don't see what is too much about it honestly.
tacomagick··on DeepSeek v4.1 Flash Is Now Our Best Hacking Model
Depends on a lot of factors, AFAIK Claude Code (TUI Harness) does not work well with Deepseek, but Opencode is surprisingly good.
tacomagick··on 25 years of mass surveillance is enough
I host my own mail, I really did not have any issues for around 3-4 years i've used it. As long as you get your records correct imo it is also very easy to host and use, though Google keeps sending me TLS reports every day.
tacomagick··on 25 years of mass surveillance is enough
We are trying, but the interop of these self hosted services currently suck. Fediverse is hard to get in to unless you have many users or you just have to join a popular instance. Who knows what they do in this instance, and it turns back into a loop.
tacomagick··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
That sounds like a horrific dream than anything. How will you even punish an AI model? I think the cyberpunk trope is a bit out of touch from reality, but a lighter version of it can definitely happen where we do get AI companies and entire board coups replacing CEOs with AI for short amounts of time, but in the end people (both consumers and investors) will want something to blame and punish properly, and they will also want control (realistically if you told any of the big people in the AI scene you're replacing them with a model they will definitely reject and claim they are needed for the company to prosper)

In addition this will probably only happen on America as most movies take place lol

I can't name one but I can tell you these models keep getting stupider as they keep existing and their system prompts get inflated with what not to do. I have experienced this happen with Qwen 3.8 Max Preview where for the early days it was blasting through Rust code fine and then before the release it silently got replaced and started to suck hard. Claude still has the "blue button" problem so it is probable that a casual chat with it could have this exact outcome of forgetting what to do. I saw some models also have this thing where when you tell them a text restriction they first ignore it in thinking, creating the full text and then apply them in their thinking rewriting it fully causing your output tokens to be inflated.

Pass it as a memory or a system prompt and watch it forget 3 agent messages later.

I was on 24H2 and recently went to 25H2 for app compat reasons. I havent even been updating my Nvidia drivers for months, stuck in the 5xx releases because whenever I update to the latest studio drivers which are supposed to be stable, the computer fails to wake up from sleep and hibernation.
