t3nary··on Taking It Back: Why This Xoogler Is Joining Mozilla
Yeah, it's pretty confusing, I thought Xoogler meant someone working at Google X.
t3nary··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (February 2017)
Is it the same office as Amazon's Berlin office?
t3nary··on Ask HN: Is there really a market for deep learning skills without a Ph.D?
How difficult is it to get into a position at a top company where you can do ML research, without having a PhD?

And I'm also wondering about going back to university: Is it difficult to get into a good ML PhD program if you've been in the industry for some years?

t3nary··on Matrix Multiplication
I feel very similar. Do you have any recommendations for resources to learn about why matrix multiplication is defined that way?
t3nary··on German police raid homes over Facebook hate speech
Who is "we"?
t3nary··on Hashcat v3.00 released
This belongs to homebrew cask (https://caskroom.github.io/) and you can indeed install it using cask.
t3nary··on 100M clear text passwords stolen from Russia's biggest social network
Hashing with an insecure algorithm and without good salting isn't much better that not hashing at all though.
t3nary··on 100M clear text passwords stolen from Russia's biggest social network
Yeah, I'm currently taking a computer security class for master students and we spend quite some time on passwords. Made me think that this should be in an obligatory course for bachelor students (or some stripped down version that teaches the basics).

It's mind-boggling how many well-known companies stored passwords badly.

t3nary··on Ask HN: Why do browsers still support pop up dialogs and other bad behavior?
I think OP is rather talking about window.{alert, prompt, confirm}, at least "ie, you can't interact with the page without answering the dialog" hints towards that
t3nary··on Ask HN: Oldest code you have written that is still in use?
Whoa, I'm using this all the time, like every second day. Thanks a lot for creating it, it's really nice!
t3nary··on Introducing unlimited private repositories
Awesome, thanks for the confirmation :)
t3nary··on Electron 1.0 is here
Keep up the good work on N1, it's a great app :) I also enjoyed reading parts of the source code, it's awesome that you open sourced it!
t3nary··on Introducing unlimited private repositories
Does anyone know if this will effect student plans as well? So far it included a free micro plan with the usual 5 private repos. Would be pretty awesome, I just had to host a repo somewhere else a few days ago because I ran out of private repos.

Other than that it sounds like a great improvement, it'll make it a lot more likely that I'll pay for GitHub when I'm not a student anymore.

/edit: https://github.com/pricing makes it sound like this is for free student plans as well

t3nary··on WhatsApp, Used by 100M Brazilians, Shut Down Nationwide Today by a Single Judge
The person I was replying to asked "Do they operate in Brazil?". And considering that the app stores are on a country level, I'd say they do.
t3nary··on WhatsApp, Used by 100M Brazilians, Shut Down Nationwide Today by a Single Judge
Their apps are in the Brazilian app stores
t3nary··on Show HN: A HN desktop app for reading links and comments next to each other
The HN API doesn't offer this stuff so far. It's readonly. And I don't want to ask users for their password.
t3nary··on Show HN: A HN desktop app for reading links and comments next to each other
Alright, I'll put it on my todo list
t3nary··on Show HN: A HN desktop app for reading links and comments next to each other
I wanted it to be a web app originally but it's not possible to do it in a nice way. For security reasons browsers don't allow to embed iframes to different domains or to even make AJAX requests to them.
t3nary··on Show HN: A HN desktop app for reading links and comments next to each other
Just to clarify: Do you mean there should be a refresh button for the comments view or should the app memorize what comments were already there the last time you viewed the page and highlight new comments?
t3nary··on Git-random: Chrome extension replaces new tab with random GitHub user's profile
This does sound a lot more useful. The majority of GitHub users don't have any real projects. Maybe only showing GitHub users that have more than n followers would be better.
t3nary··on Ask HN: How much do you make at Amazon? Here is how much I make at Amazon
> - Level: Entry level Software Developer, Bachelor or Master - Location: Germany, Nuremberg - Salary: EG9 ~49000€

Do they not differentiate between entry level + bachelor degree vs. entry level + master degree?

t3nary··on Ask HN: How much do you make at Google?
I'm still a student so I don't know a lot about salaries, but is this kind of increase common? 130k to 280k in two years sounds extreme
