t3chg1rl··on Ask HN: Who's looking for a job? (March 2011 Edition)
I am! In Austin, TX, I'm a Clarity PPM Admin and IT Project Manager, mostly. A geek-of-all-trades. I do data analysis and validation, some DB work, some coding... If you need an all around IT person who will learn or do whatever to make things run smoothly, let me know!

Eh, I don't know if this is really happening or not. If you go over to the actual "press release" on anonops and look at the comments, there's quite a discussion on if this should fly or not. Sure, there's some people calling on doing it for the lulz. But there are quite a few saying no, they will not participate, as much as they dislike Westboro. A few are calling for not silencing them, but doing some "investigation" and trying to dig up any dirty laundry to get rid of them that way. But being that some of anon's strength lies in numbers, the disagreement and discussion is a good thing, I think. Even if some people go for it and disregard the argument that silencing free speech they disagree with is bad, the chances that they can do much damage are smaller.

I agree with stcredzero. You need some standards if you're going to put yourself out there as a security company. I'm a random chick with some web programming and I know that you should iterative hash or salt your hashes. I also know you shouldn't use the same passwords, and what sql injections attacks are. Hey, maybe I should start a security company!
t3chg1rl··on How do you use hacker news?
I'm new here too. I had lurked for awhile but finally made a username. I come here for the particular mix of stories that inevitably interest me, but more for the comments. I don't comment much yet, both because I'm new and also I feel a little intimidated at times - everyone here seems very smart and experienced. I'm intelligent but the experience, well I guess that will change with time. :) I'd like to make friends, I guess we'll see there too.

I am a long time lurker, but only just created a login here. I didn't think that this would be my first comment, but this sort of thing - advice for geeks - has been on my mind for awhile. I'm a geeky woman and have given my (mostly male, but female as well) geek friends advice over the years, on relationships and dating, dealing with being "the geek" in situations where that's not how you want to be seen, networking, and yes, how one looks. I'm a geek but my family was very business oriented, and I had to learn how to network and such at company events and gatherings at a fairly young age. I count myself lucky in this, while I have never really loved networking I do know how to do it and it is important. Looking at some of my friends I can see how I might have turned out had this not been the case. I have thought about creating a website like this, an advice site for geeks, but was unsure of my authority. My friends know my authority in this such as it is - I give good advice and they know my background. But random people on the internet? I'm just another person. Thoughts? Is authority important?
