t27··on Show HN: A map that shows you how far you can go for a given time or distance
Really cool and fast visualization! Upvoted

This might help the OP (also other readers and for reference) - It might be competing with the OPs app, but Here.com has a solution for this in one of their developer APIs(https://developer.here.com/documentation/routing/topics/requ...), it returns an isoline(contour) based on multiple options(max distance, max time or max fuel consumption) similar to the OPs solution

t27··on Ask HN: Are weights trained from a dataset also under the same license terms?
The r/MachineLearning discussion for this(for reference) - https://www.reddit.com/r/MachineLearning/comments/7eor11/d_d...
t27··on Ask HN: Are weights trained from a dataset also under the same license terms?
I feel this question would apply to downloaded weights as well. Because if the license does apply to the weights, whoever put the weights on the github with whatever license, the original license should prevail. Also, if your process requires that you be safe from license restrictions, we'd anyways have to check the original licenses, right?
t27··on Ask HN: What do you use to take notes?
I've started using Laverna(http://Laverna.cc) recently. Its a note management app built completely in Javascript and is serverless(except for storage, which is via your own dropbox), so I can host it on github pages/ AWS S3.

It has a convenient Markdown editor with live previews, sorting notes by notebooks, and has web and mobile versions. The notes are stored in dropbox and your browser's local storage, also they have imports and exports for backup.

Also its completely opensource and I can be sure that theres no snooping on my notes.

t27··on A Dell Customer Service Dispute
Hmm, yeah, that's possible. My friend's not a regular to HN, I'll definitely ask him to come up here and participate
t27··on A Dell Customer Service Dispute
Exactly, that's my friend who's suffering, he bieng a US buyer, I'm pretty sure that there will be a local customer support team who can help him.

> Nothing of value will be lost.

Except for loss in revenue for Apple. Most tech companies right now prefer to buy Macs for devs because of the costs[1] and devs like it because of the versatility. If devs wont prefer Macs, it seems unlikely that the companies will also keep buying them in bulk

So, basically, you're only targeting YC because they respond/reply to you? Also, Thiel is the biggest shareholder in Palantir, you should also start a movement for all anti-Trump employees/stakeholders of palantir to quit as well? Also it doesn't seem fair to target YC even though their supposed "crime" is pretty small compared to facebook or palantir, does the fact that pg and sama have been vocal about their stance against Trump differentiate them? Had they not said anything about their political views(much like zuck and many other important people in the valley), would you still have pressed them to disavow Thiel?
t27··on [dead]
Why aren't you going behind mark zuckerberg as well? Thiel is not only an influential investor, but also has a board seat there, and he probably has a bigger share in facebook than he has in YC right?

Hey thanks for this, why not add the founder profile questions too (the questions that each founder has to fill in their personal profile page)?
t27··on The Psychology of Human Misjudgment (2005) [pdf]
I found a pdf version which, unlike the link above, was not a scanned copy. It had the proper text. Used a web based pdf to doc converter, fixed some formatting and converted the .doc to html using libre office. To fix artifacts, fonts and other extra html, I used plain old regex based find and replace on Atom. Finally used the stackedit css for the fonts and styles.
t27··on The Psychology of Human Misjudgment (2005) [pdf]
Here's a web article version of this PDF, which I had converted some time back. There are some minor hyphenation issues, but otherwise I have fixed the formatting so that it shows up good on web and mobile displays.

Obviously, all credit goes to Charlie Munger. https://t27.github.io/to-read/MungerMisjudgement.html

I'll be glad to take PR's on the github repo for fixes to any errors that may have come up in the conversion of the PDF article

A perfect answer to the YC application question - "Tell us something surprising or amusing that one of you has discovered" :)

For hardware cos applying to this batch, the Bolt collaboration sounds awesome. Since Bolt has super expertise in prototyping, is it an indication that hardware ideas with an idea only Or partial prototype can get accepted? How can such co.s improve their chances further, compared to software co.s where making a proof of concept barely costs any money?
t27··on Introducing Pebble Time
The amount is increasing by around $2-3k every second!! This ones going to beat every kickstarter record out there!
