t23414321··on AI Code Is Hollowing Out Open Source, and Maintainers Are Looking the Other Way
Related: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47645976 AI that copied musical artist files copyright claim against artist

>The fact the songs are AI is meaningless. She had songs. Someone else created a cover of the songs, claimed them as original, and distributed them. They get ISRC numbers and auto sync copyright claims through distribution. She needs to file suit against the claimants. The end. ?

It would be a feature not a bug if it could preserve attributions and "who said what" too.

( Let's stop AI crimes ..)

It looks like AI generated code can't be used legally - without respecting rights and licenses or without proving that no copyrighted code may happen to be mixed in - true only if no such was used to learn at first - what all we know, it's not the case: all is tainted by legal omissions or simply: stolen (prove otherwise - there is nothing AI invented first except hallucinations).

AI generated works can't be copyrighted as for now - but original works eaten by AI shall not be decopyrighted neither !

Then, just by preserving all attributions of pieces mixed into the answers it would be possible to distinguish what was hallucinated and slope, what was not - and what was stolen, what was not - and who is responsible for what (?)

- inconvenient ?? - to expensive ??? - Duh.

If no more AI slopes and no rights be broken - it's worth it,

- without that ? - it will be distrusted, illegal and terminal.

"Blanchard explained his thoughts on why the newly licensed code was a “clean-room” implementation."

Its not IMHO.

Starting from that, the machine in the room wasn't clean - it ate all the source codes with all the licenses, now produced washed out codes without licenses - but it doesn't have any right to strip them even asked for, neither results of that could become somehow legal - the codes used, even if remixed, are still under the same license as before, even if label about that was "lost" in the process.

And it may happen to be easy to prove - that a room with washing machine for dirty stuff there wasn't clean:

"Finetuning Activates Verbatim Recall of Copyrighted Books in LLMs" - https://arxiv.org/abs/2603.20957

(And.. Be safe. Keep your copyrighted code - or music - out of AI reach - or you may lose any rights to them, even could be sued - with your price grabbed by machines remixing them freely so far ;)

Copyright free ?

- works produced by AI can't "loose" copyrights of used original copyrighted works, regardless of remixing - then only if no such works were used the results produced by AI can be copyrights free.

-

AI machines that don't trace that legal rights but are used to strip of them - what indeed is a robbery - shall be forbidden as criminal until that would be fixed, with respect to the law and original creators.

t23414321··on Intelligent people are better judges of the intelligence of others
And the reverse too (not to self destruct, (A)Overthinking""" may not help, but never mind.. - it can't be so simple..?

=> "Human Intelligence" soon may be over. Even I did not - someone warn me then I stop - not as any could ever 'aftermind'.. - But can He..? - He would not (make such rock) ..it's another level. Or DNA, KISS ;).

t23414321··on Intelligent people are better judges of the intelligence of others
What about less intelligent people judging the intelligence of more intelligent people - and about handling that, from both sides - finding (or not) that someone may be more intelligent than you ever know or could imagine - or to deal with someone that will never find that out - but will keep treating you instead as you were that more stupid person regardless of whatever - and what if when he by chance may find about that, the outcome could be even worse for you ?

(Good Soldier Švejk is _dark_ _comedy_ - but not necessary an answer someone could take or like, moreover some people may happen to be smart differently.. some with high IQ still be dumb - or, the.. reverse?? ..really? - but howTF ??? ;)

Nonsense propaganda and NEVER true ! (but DARVO)

'pesky' it's quite easy the russian point of view !

t23414321··on Exploring Different Keyboard Sensing Technologies
That's mostly copycats of Ben Heck approach from 2012 - some technical improvements, but like without understanding, further thinking about function - or imagination why someone needed it first, then what would be next. So all seems stuck for me, and not much than a bit a closer since then to what (and how) I want, starting from smoothly increasing the repeat rate with pressure for cursor keys or scrolling (but not to have few levels only to macro-simulate that, then OS's are used to not get such things right - High Resolution Scrolling https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSy9G6bNuKA 2024).

t23414321··on Is Mozilla trying hard to kill itself?
Didn't one of those extensions had an option to regexp replace content of JS files ? (Now how to do that: with parsing - or with magical chains ??:)

Right, that could be nice use of AI to extract only the good parts - or, at least, to adjust the rules for https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/requestcontro... by function.

t23414321··on Is Mozilla trying hard to kill itself?
That would be (progressive??) XBL. (!)

(- it's kind of behavior extension on tag level, yet has JS - and it's orthogonal, like CSS or XSLT (BTW. see that hack: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41245159), unlike JS which is.. untamed and invasive; i.e. there is video (any) tag but you could (+)DIY not touching the document - like custom playing with MPlayer or VLC as a plugin there for all AV formats or sorting filtering editing whatever, all aside custompacks? :)

- or, what about the other way, like a firewall ??

t23414321··on Is Mozilla trying hard to kill itself?
The web was usable without JavaScript once.

(JS has few good uses, but is too excessive. Less code is always better - and an art.)

t23414321··on Is Mozilla trying hard to kill itself?
The profit model is being payed (as CEO) to dismantle Firefox into oblivion and no more.

t23414321··on Mozilla's new CEO is doubling down on an AI future for Firefox
> I think we should give them a chance.

Leaving XSLT in web standards and in Firefox would let it keep some comfy useful niche ("resilience" ?).

Is that right if Google don't want to keep it - then no one can have it ?!

----------

the truth is static and non-profit, but calculating something can be sold again and again, if you have a hammer (processing) everything looks like a nail, to sell well the word thinking had to be used instead of excuse for every time results being different - then, we can have only things that let someone else keep making profits: JS, LLM, whatever.. (just not.. "XSLT" alike) ? - mind work done already (once is enough) by non-profits or users just outpriced from the market for next few years.

BTW JavaScript (to replace it all) _is not_ a _web standard_ (but it is Oracle trademark).

t23414321··on Mozilla appoints new CEO Anthony Enzor-Demeo
Yes, there is no more: plugins, XBL, original extensions, and XSLT is removed not from Chrome but from the web standards !

Anything left ?

t23414321··on Using secondary school maths to demystify AI
That's right when saying selecting not calculating a chess move - assuming you are outside of Plato's cave (Popper).

But now, I see this: the truth is static and non-profit, but calculating something can be sold again and again, if you have a hammer (processing) everything looks like a nail, to sell well the word thinking had to be used instead of excuse for every time results being different (like the shadows) - then, we can have only things that let someone else keep making profits: JS, LLM, whatever.. (yet, I need to study for your second sentence;)

t23414321··on Using secondary school maths to demystify AI
artificial intelligence in place of artificial knowledge is confusing distraction too, at least artificial is a good reminder since beginning

(IMHO its not provocative but well catching a point.. about so called "intelligence" - what if we could look for intelligent knowledge - made in not statistic but semantic(?) and converging way - instead - of being distracted, afraid and.. outpriced, peanuts for the essence it doesn't have ?)

t23414321··on Using secondary school maths to demystify AI
@dang offtopicness started from using word thinking in place of calculating what is the common objection in this thread.
t23414321··on Using secondary school maths to demystify AI
An LLM ..is calculated ..from language (or from things being said by humans before being true or not). It's not some antropomorfic process what using the word thinking would suggest (to sell well).

> across multiple tokens

- but how many ? how many of them happen in sole person life ? How many in some calculation ? Does it matter, if a calculation doesn't reflect it but stay all the same ? (conversation with.. a radio - would it have any sense ?)
