szczepano··on Apple and Google partner on Covid-19 contact tracing technology
Ok so looks like the key to understand is flow diagram from ContactTracing-BluetoothSpecification.pdf page 6 scanning: CFUserNotification "App would like to access time and duration of your %d contacts. Approve?"

What it looks like it's application framework based on system service I hope they won't start advertising ios bluetooth all the time and only allow application to do it. In that case application can be safely removed.

I am also concerned about cloud Diagnosis_Keys

szczepano··on Quantifying the Adpocalypse
To be clear Alphabet ( class A ) -0.25% compared to previous year Alphabet ( class C ) +0.57% compared to previous year Facebook -1.31% compared to previous year I think it's stil overpriced. We are at the beginning not at the end.

To sum up no matter how big the hard drives or data center we produce we will always have problem with storage capacity.
szczepano··on Risky Business: Interview with Marc Andreessen (2018)
Why can't we just build robots and lay at home while driving them across galactic or build a big aquarium for brain like in futurama ? Touching can be stimulated by hardware, people wake up.
szczepano··on Google App Maker Shutting Down
Would be nice if they make it open source.
szczepano··on In Serving Big Company Interests, Copyright Is in Crisis
This is not those companies fault that politics instead of protecting users privacy and freedom of decisions are protecting their own access to user data.

People managed to survive for generations living in a tribe, city whatever you call one place yet now politics want to know everything about them to sustain power they gained using technology they know nothing about.

szczepano··on How Germany is able to run the world’s second largest export economy
Article should be named.

Why this time we succeed and conquered our old enemies using capitalism, money and demand for precise machines that save time instead of wasting everything to fight with everyone around.

szczepano··on Why are we using black box models in AI when we don’t need to? (2019)
What a dumb question is it? The same logic is behind sports and nobel price awards.

It's easier to say to people who make financial decision that this is great artificial intelligence that will solve all your problems then explain mathematical equations behind it that 90% people won't understand. The more complicated the stuff is the higher probability it will be sold. That's the standard in IT world from quite some time.

szczepano··on How cloud computing impacts the environment
Well more and more computing power in one place won't be carbon neutral. I disagree with this article. It's like writing that 100 meter building can be more efficient than 100 buildings. Yes it takes less space horizontally but it's more complex to power it and support people then make 100 same buildings and provide each with wind / solar power. That's what decentralisation is about and maybe somewhere in future we start building self sustaining villages with own small networks that barely need to communicate with outside world instead of building giant networks that are inefficient. P2P FTW

szczepano··on A collection of bad practices in HTML
Looks like someone changed design decision and needed buttons instead of text links in various places and people got bad day implementing those.
szczepano··on Organizational Skills Beat Algorithmic Wizardry (2013)
Now try to describe it to HR people so they can measure things and write to excel table like Person A knows 90% Person B knows 50%. Explain that what you want are lazy people who can abstract the world and peek problems from different angles. Writing code is only the last step.
szczepano··on Viral Tweet About Apple Card Leads to Goldman Sachs Probe
Can you get insurance from algorithm damage ? I see a niche here.
szczepano··on Ask HN: What's a promising area to work on?
Smart assistant in some narrow field of knowledge.
szczepano··on Open-source apps removed from Google Play Store due to donation links
In my opinion it's not the problem of software but the problem of hardware. You can more easily write software then produce phone hardware. From consumer perspective it's quite easy to make custom computer and use custom os on it cause most of drivers are open and you can see there are plenty of computer operating systems in the world, on the other hand most of phones hardware and os is proprietary what was not an issue when we were using it for calling not using it as alternative to traditional computer. So first we need to define what is broken, from my perspective broken is phone hardware.

szczepano··on Facebook is trying to register BOOK as trademark in Europe
What purpose exactly ? Only corporate products are good and other are trying to kill me ? That's your point ? McDonald sandwich will kill me or Apple iPhone ? Maybe facebook can kill me ? Qualcomm processor ?

Or maybe you think sole people doesn't build cars/planes and don't use them in public ?

Anyone can read about anything anywhere and yeah older people also talk about products they use and how good they are. They actually talk about it more than younger people.

I recommend you a great book by Cory Doctorow "Information doesn't want to be free" you can buy or download it.

szczepano··on Facebook is trying to register BOOK as trademark in Europe
Trademark is evil same is with patent and copyright. It's just a corporate tool to gain free money from work of people who passed away long time ago. Those tools have one purpose - stop innovation and progress for years.
szczepano··on Another heavily-funded AR headset startup is shutting down
