syaz1··on IAmThe server engineering lead at foursquare. Ask Me Anything.
Why do people claiming they don't care always do this? Skip the freaking article and be done with it.
syaz1··on My GF Calls This a BTC Nerd Quest
On a similar note, my mom did not call this Nerd Quest because she has no idea about bitcoin.
syaz1··on jQuery "Genealogy" plugin
Same here! I usually end up describing them all as relatives.
syaz1··on Team Fortress 2 now free forever
It should resume the download. Something wrong in your case. I suggest you just copy from a friend who have downloaded it.
syaz1··on Duke Nukem Forever: barely playable, not funny, rampantly offensive
> we're all just older now

This is it. I think people don't realize they've grown up and what they found funny when playing DN as a child is simply not funny anymore. After all kids are easily amused.

syaz1··on HN is about to overtake Slashdot.
I stopped recently. I find the news are always late due to moderation, and there are just way too many 3-5 Funny than I'd like.

Plus I believe anything you can find there, also has been posted here.

syaz1··on Top Domains by Number of HN Submissions
By URL. Try submitting a URL you already see and you'll be redirected to that submission instead.
syaz1··on [dead]
More and more reddit stuff leaking into HN these days.

And uh, please, NSFW tag. 1 pagescroll down and it's boobies.

syaz1··on Writing Clear, Concise, Sentences
Stephen Fry ranting on language nazis: Season 2, Episode 3: Language: http://www.stephenfry.com/category/media/audio/

I don't really know who he is, but he make some very convincing arguments.

syaz1··on The real story behind Arch Linux package signing
tl;dr anyone? Arch is the only distro I use but never heard of this before.
syaz1··on [dead]
If you want Reddit, you go to Reddit. Why must HN become one?

I can't keep up with Reddit. Too much noise. Good you have time to. HN currently give ~80-100 RSS items daily to me which is good enough to keep me from surfing all day, and still keep up with latest tech news.

syaz1··on Phpfog "Down for maintenance"
It had details on how they exploited it.
syaz1··on Phpfog "Down for maintenance"
True. I was asking for a good hosting solution in Kohana forums[1], PHPFog was mentioned a few times and Lucas went there to offer us direct access (skip the invite-friends part). He is indeed very active and kind.

syaz1··on "The Lean Startup" in 3 Sentences
If you just want to rip 3 sentences from pg article, without adding anything, why bother linking to your page?
syaz1··on Why did Andrew Cooke deleted all his answers from Quora
Apparently you do care enough to post.

Guy seems like the Jon Skeet of Quora.

syaz1··on Very impressive CSS3 demo: CSS3 Planetarium
The only thing I can relate 'everything' with Flash is that everything spikes up. Seeing this demo I noticed no big spikes on CPU, etc.
syaz1··on Very impressive CSS3 demo: CSS3 Planetarium
There's a bug though. If you click on first/last planet then the arrow will not appear at all. Naturally you expect right arrow when clicking the first planet. Vice versa.
syaz1··on The worst program I ever worked on
I find your sample harder to read. Reading the current line I easily get distracted by the next, either because it's too close or too bold.

Thing is it's mostly subjective, so YMMV.

syaz1··on Bookmarklets to Sort Hacker News' Comments
I used to want this feature. Then I realized it's nice to be forced to wade through bad/low vote comments. Sometimes I even find them interesting.

With sorting the higher will be higher (people sort and agree with the higher voted comments, hence voting them up again) and lower remains unread.

syaz1··on Junkyard Jumbotron: join all your screens into one big one, no software needed
Slightly OT, how do they do it on TV shops where they put a lot of TVs to form a big screen? How are the images split? Can I do it with any TV?
syaz1··on [dead]
I think it's obvious you assume everyone knows Gabe's personality. I for one only heard his name in news. Never seen his picture, read his interviews, etc.
syaz1··on [dead]
Is this serious article or belong to ONION category? Clicking the provided steam link in TFA will only show Steam app store main page.

I hope this is not a serious article. They seriously think people take their time to fill legit birthday dates online? 1st January is usually default. The thing people usually pick randomly is the year since the default is usually too young.

syaz1··on 25 Body Hacks to Supercharge Yourself
Nice but I find it troubling to give "bite your tongue" as advice. There are a lot more safer way to incite pain such as pinching your arms. Tongue biting?
syaz1··on Million-song dataset: take it, it's free
Seriously cool!

Direct link to actual site: http://labrosa.ee.columbia.edu/millionsong/

The dataset is 280 GB, and they also provide a 10,000 songs (1.8 GB) version for a "quick taste".

syaz1··on Obama orders Guantanamo kept open and indefinite detention for prisoners
Your point is?
syaz1··on Poll: What do you use to track your bugs?
Basecamp is awesome if a lot of people involved are non-technical. They tend to get dizzy looking at Jira/Trac.
syaz1··on Meat-Eating Furniture
Self-sustaining pest control robots. No need to bother about their maintenance. Just let it loose and have a lot less pests.
syaz1··on Interacting with women can impair men's cognitive functioning
I think I first heard it from Robbin Williams stand-up:

God gave you a penis and a brain, and only enough blood to run one at a time
Any video hunters out there to provide the link? Also another variation:

God gave us 2 heads and just enough blood to use one at a time
