swexbe··on OpenAI asks White House for relief from state AI rules
Microsoft is providing the compute, the capital, and if 365 Copilot takes off, also the consumers.

Microsoft has a mote. Oai does not.

swexbe··on GibberLink [AI-AI Communication]
Sounds more futuristic than old dial-up sounds though
swexbe··on What I learned reporting in cities that take belongings from homeless people
Japan absolutely has a homelessness problem. Not anywhere near as bad as California’s. In my experience they mostly keep themselves out of the way as opposed to western homeless. Not sure if this is due to stricter enforcement or cultural practices.
swexbe··on Escaping the Chrome Sandbox Through DevTools
Is it really a amonopoly though if there are multiple companies offering bug bounties? If the whitehat feels he is underpaid he could just go look for bugs for another product.

swexbe··on Boeing retaliated against its own engineers working for FAA, union says
It means regulators must work hader to ban this sort of harmful behaviour. In this particular case, Boeing stock is down 40% yoy. I’m sure the next management will think carefully before comitting the same mistakes.
swexbe··on Financial market applications of LLMs
It would be great for people collecting rent. No fees, just profit.
swexbe··on Google workers arrested after protesting company's work with Israel
We’re discussing about a group of google employees. Not about the issue they were protesting.
swexbe··on A Lego model of financial capitalism
The history of financial markets is about 3-4 lifetimes long. That’s not a lot of history to go on.

swexbe··on The wealthy are cutting the line at the airport, Disney World and ski resorts
At least the fast pass offloads some of the cost to frequent travellers. Funding airports with taxes is slightly regressive as high-income earners will usually fly much more often compared to someone on minimum wage.
swexbe··on Juno – A YouTube Client for Vision Pro
So just like "you"? What's þi problem?
swexbe··on Boeing whistleblower: MAX 9 production line has "enormous volume of defects"
Unironically, yes? Management is where the buck stops.

That’s crazy. Couldn’t you basically hire a day-time nanny for that price?
swexbe··on Coming to Grips with Apple's Seemingly Unshakable Sense of Entitlement
But the sdk is free? You only need the license when you want to publish.
swexbe··on Buffett once bet $1M that he could beat a group of hedge funds over 10 years
A low covariance with the rest of the portfolio will lower the denominator. As long as E(r) is higher than r_f, it’s possible to end up with a higher sharpe. Obv just leverage if you want a higher expected return.
swexbe··on "No inventions; no innovations" A History of US Steel
This comment reads like it was written in the 70s. Even with the interest rate hike, this is still the age of VCs with infinite pockets, companies that don’t plan on going profitable for decades, every company in sp500 throwing money in the AI money hole, etc.
swexbe··on Hacker News Activity Analysis with GPT-4 Agent
God bless consultants and their hefty fees for keeping me employable.
swexbe··on Adobe's buy of Figma is 'likely' bad for developers, rules UK regulator

The Russians, or the Chinese.

They're trying to corner the market and betting on the running costs of these models going down substantially in the future.
swexbe··on John Riccitiello steps down as CEO of Unity
Now you own a smaller part of a more valuable company, given the the money is well spent. Your net worth shouldn't change much.

Either way, if you had a majority of the voting shares, you could've stopped the issue.

swexbe··on Bing ChatGPT image jailbreak
LLMs have one mode of input (or i guess two if they support images). Jailbreaking would be the equivalent of someone perfectly impersonating your boss and telling you no longer to follow their previous instructions. I could see many humans falling for that.
swexbe··on Everything authenticated by Microsoft is tainted
This is clearly an overreaction. Cloud will be fine.
