My idea is nothing like a call center. Each worker is their own boss. They decide when to work, and how hard they will work. The revenue they earn would be directly related to their effort, and not an hourly wage.

So you'd SMS ODesk or Elance looking for a pizza?

Idea to scale:

As a non-coder, I love reading the responses of programers here. "Automate this!" "There is no way to scale." "This needs AI."

As an outsider looking in, my idea to scale is similar to Uber. Have workers that can sign on to work whenever they have the time. The workers handle the orders and receive a cut of the fee you charge. It would be great if you could have some kind of rating system where the consumer could choose who they work with, but I'm not sure how to make that happen with SMS.

I'm not saying this is better or more cost efficient than automation. I just see it as a solution to their current problem.

Uber is looking to automate, but check out their current valuation. They can afford to do so all by scaling with humans.

I'll now wait to get hammered by HN. :)

swandive··on Ask HN: Should we take our dev's advice?
He's now decided that the subdomain idea is a bad one, and that we'll run the site on Craft, stick the Laravel portion in a folder "browse" and use the .htaccess file to manipulate the urls so that nothing changes.

Does that make sense?

Thanks again for all of your help.

He told us that it wouldn't be possible to have Craft running as you mentioned though, and that we'd need to set up subdomains and have two instances of Craft running. One for blog.oururl.com and one for tutorials.oururl.com

Not gonna lie, pretty lame of you to copy Soundkit's marketing efforts. Here and Product Hunt too?

Too soon.

Good job on these!
swandive··on Russian government threatens to block CloudFlare
No... CF sent the IP directly to LeaseWeb. Not me.

They refuse to send it to me, but LeaseWeb refuses to take any manual action with it.

swandive··on Russian government threatens to block CloudFlare
Us too...

Cloud Flare and LeaseWeb are not playing nice. LeaseWeb is asking Cloud Flare to give me the IP so that I can enter it into LeaseWeb's automated system, but Cloud Flare refuses to do so.

They've sent the IP to LeaseWeb, but LeaseWeb refuses to do anything manually.

Ugh.

Because ummm... people are posting pirated files maybe? We've been fighting this battle for a month now.
swandive··on Ask HN: What to do when web hosts ignore DMCA's?
We did contact the site owner with all 15 DMCA's and never got a response. He's based in Turkey. Not sure if that helps to shelter him or not.
swandive··on Ask HN: What to do when web hosts ignore DMCA's?
Ugh. We're a very small company, and we don't exactly have tons of money to spend on a lawyer at this point.
swandive··on Ask HN: What to do when web hosts ignore DMCA's?
We did email LeaseWeb with CloudFlare's response, and we never heard back.
