supperburg··on $1.5B lithium deposit discovered in Maine; excavating it poses a legal challenge
Yes. The narrative that electrification just shifts around the pollution is so tired and untrue. The end to end pipeline of EVs is much more efficient than that of gas cars, so even if we start synthesizing fuels that are carbon neutral gas cars will lose. The only reason gas cars could ever exist is because of cheap and dirty fuel. The only car that makes sense in a sustainable system is an EV maybe with synthesized and carbon neutral hydrocarbon range extension for emergencies.
supperburg··on $1.5B lithium deposit discovered in Maine; excavating it poses a legal challenge
People forget that a battery has only a dusting of lithium. A very small amount. People hear the name and they think it’s a chunk of metallic lithium.
supperburg··on Elon Musk Fans Bullied a Transportation Official Off Twitter
I support Tesla. If these people in the government cared so much about safety then why do they allow Ford and friends to kill people with their shitty cars over and over again? The recalls are absolutely disgusting. They claim to worry about safety when Teslas are safer than any other car by a mile by any metric.

This lady says she’s covered Tesla for ten years. I’ve been watching closely for ten years too and all I’ve ever seen is journalists and politicians screw Tesla over to sell clicks and please big oil and the established car companies.

Tesla FSD is the most advanced self driving system on the planet. It is objectively amazing if not yet complete. Stamping out FSD because you think Elon musk is a meanie is fucking stupid.

Were you taking a test drive in Uganda? I test drove a P100 years ago and it was awesome.
supperburg··on Tesla Q3 2021 Earnings
No, it won’t. People who drive f150s want a super-duty, not a tesla. They want dualies, lift kits. I’m sure Ford did their market research to make sure it would sell. The bean counters also confidently predicted trump would lose in ‘16. But I predicted he would win and I predict the lightning will lose. Plus you’ve forgotten the most important part: Ford fucking sucks. They can’t make a good EV, apparently not even on paper and certainly not in any physical sense. They have no charging infrastructure. All they have is an army of slack jawed idiots who buy Ford vehicles on principle.

They also weren’t paying any rent, so yes
supperburg··on Is the world economy entering a wage-price spiral?
Nobody pays rent…
supperburg··on Is the world economy entering a wage-price spiral?
Labor prices will return to normal once people run out of savings and stimulus checks.

supperburg··on HTTP is obsolete – it's time for the distributed, permanent web (2015)
Just create an easy way to host stuff. Support a cultural shift toward dithered images and a universal text format. Make hiring a host cheap and easy and make hosting locally easy. Small sizes makes backing up easier and cheaper. Create a service where people can store a shard of the backup of the new internet and in return have their content added to the collective backup. I really think it’s about a cultural shift more than anything. Because without a collective realization that bandwidth and file sizes need to be reigned in, the content on the internet will just live at the perpetually ascending ceiling of what the internet can handle. And in that situation there will never be a way to make the internet a robust, equitable and interesting place.
supperburg··on FSD beta is getting “wild” [video]
I think this may be an inflection point. With the wide release of FSD, and all the intervention feedback that will come with that, the rate at which it gets better will increase. And all the infrastructure for training, labeling, creating digital recreations to augment training data, everything will be turned up to 11 if FSD is able to become an important part of the economy driving trucks and being widely trusted to shuttle people around.

You could have gotten on onlyfans and made more than all your current salaries combined. Women have blue collar work too. A stripper who saves her money will invariably become wealthy.
supperburg··on Is Ford about to reinvent the bicycle derailleur?
I don’t know what kids toys have to do with my beautiful comment
supperburg··on Is Ford about to reinvent the bicycle derailleur?
Well I don’t have any chip on my shoulder. Cycling is an upper class pastime in the United States. That’s just a plain fact. Nothing wrong with it either
supperburg··on Is Ford about to reinvent the bicycle derailleur?
Cycling is such a cool subculture. I keep “the Armstrong lie” playing in the background a lot. It’s just such a cool and impenetrable thing. It’s this weird artifact of wealthy suburbs like some kind of strange custom or tradition like the Japanese tea ceremony. Seemingly pointless and filled with double meanings and unspoken rules and yet nice in a way and complementary to a virtuous life.
supperburg··on Is Ford about to reinvent the bicycle derailleur?
Seems dumb. It would take a lot of energy to heat up the wire over and over and energy is at a premium on ebikes. Especially if the chain wasn’t cooperating and more force were required which I assume would mean more heat would be required. Also that seems a little slow compared to an electromagnetic solution. The only advantage in my view is that it has fewer moving parts.
supperburg··on Self directed IRAs under attack in proposed tax bill
Huh. Under current tax laws you can literally dodge paying taxes using a totally unintended loophole in something called 401k. Wild.
supperburg··on Norway to hit 100% electric vehicle sales by early next year
Because in the states if you didn’t do that a bunch of idiots would accuse you of disproportionately taxing the poor since they can’t afford electric cars. Social justice at its finest.

No, it’s is literally a deficiency. It is the metabolic latency of parts of the brain. It’s having parts of your brain turned off.

supperburg··on Andrew Yang Founds the Forward Party
I was listening to a popular media personality talking about a third party to fix our problems. It struck me as the wrong way. It would end up as just another political entity that is compromised by dogma, fanatics, money, corruption. No matter how well intentioned. I feel like it would be better to popularize the stigmatization of parties, drain the corrupt party establishments of their cash and support, and make it culturally acceptable to just support bills and politicians you like and not support ones you don’t like. I think ranked voting is good and maybe more direct voting on items instead of people.

> more than just the brain

This is objectively wrong

supperburg··on The Great AI Reckoning
It’s such a fascinating question. Given some domestic computer, what is the most intelligent program it might be able to run in something like real-time? My intuition is that domestic computers could achieve a sparse intellect but maybe not a rich sensory relationship with the physical world.

With every year we expand our vast collective computational resources. It’s like a powder keg. It’s sitting dormant just waiting for a good program to be stumbled upon. I hope I’m not alive when that happens

supperburg··on The Great AI Reckoning
A lot of the brain is for unrelated things. Imagine how many neurons you eliminate by excluding the cerebellum or the brain stem. And if you carved away the brain until only the intellect remained, distilling its digital equivalent could reduce its size even more. And if it were just the algorithm, I think 10TB would be enough.

supperburg··on Minecraft to add telemetry
I really want to see a Minecraft that’s written in a fast language and also takes advantage of the huge amounts of storage and memory that we have now. The main problem with Minecraft is that you can see the end of the blocks even on high settings. Would also be cool to see slightly smaller blocks
