supergreg··on MailChimp vs. Amazon SES – How I Reduced My Monthly Bill
Would a subdomain, support@mail.example.com, avoid getting your domain blocked while looking more official?
supergreg··on Eloquent JavaScript, 3rd edition
> The biggest thing that happened in the JavaScript universe in the past years is the finalization and adoption of ECMAScript 6 (or ES2015)

I don't know if it's meant as a joke, but isn't it usually known as ES6 or ECMAScript 2015? And people quarrel over which to use?

supergreg··on Five minute guide to better typography
Sans-serif seems easier to read on a screen when the font-size is small. Maybe that's just me though.
supergreg··on Five minute guide to better typography
While visiting a newspaper for a project, I heard them talk about how it is better to use a sans-serif font for the body and a serif for the heading because it is easier to read. I think that's more true for printed stuff than on the screen though.
supergreg··on A Pre-History of Slashdot
I think there's more keeping things in check here than at ./ when group #2 joined.
supergreg··on Giving you more characters
I thought he was going for something along those lines, then somebody got through to him and so he ended it up with something nonsensical, hence the delay.
supergreg··on Giving you more characters
Invisible markup doesn't look like a good idea.
supergreg··on Giving you more characters
I just rotated my phone.
supergreg··on Twitter Suspends 300k Accounts Tied to Terrorism in 2017
I might disapprove of what they say but will fight to death for their right to say it.
supergreg··on Twitter Suspends 300k Accounts Tied to Terrorism in 2017
How do they know the account was from an actual terrorist or from a Viagra salesbot if it never made a post?
supergreg··on Twitter Suspends 300k Accounts Tied to Terrorism in 2017
How would you know if they did know and chose not to do anything to avoid showing they did know?
supergreg··on Show HN: A coloring book of data structures and algorithms
How DNS works is a favorite of mine: https://howdns.works/
supergreg··on Mastodon is big in Japan, and the reason why is uncomfortable
I remember reading an article talking about how all the tentacle porn in Japanese hentai exists because USA banned the depiction of genitalia in the media after WWII, so they had to become creative about it.
supergreg··on The BitTorrent Protocol Specification v2
The tree structure seems very similar. It would be nice if torrent clients could interact with ipfs or gain ipfs capabilities. Think torrents that update themselves when the files change (thanks to ipns).
supergreg··on A better way to make holograms
Dead butterflies
supergreg··on Bitcoin Fork Monitor
> update the client to the "winner" side of the fork

But will the bitcoin client (from bitcoin.org) update to the winning rules or will I need to download it from somewhere else depending on who the winner is?

supergreg··on Writing code with multiple overlapping side effects with a straight face
I've seen people recommend shorter names for MongoDB keys for faster querying.
supergreg··on Gitter is open source
The easiest route for installations would be to offer a docker image and docker-compose file to set up the multiple services.
supergreg··on “Which word begins with “y” and looks like an axe in this picture?”
And then there's a community discussing the work and it's motivations. Maybe people is driven more by curiosity than money.
supergreg··on “Which word begins with “y” and looks like an axe in this picture?”
Probably people trying to come up with different answers for the points.
supergreg··on An Empirical Study of Load Balancing Algorithms
So what's the conclusion?
supergreg··on 32TB of Windows 10 internal builds, core source code leak online
Actually the opposite. They can't work in the project of they've seen the actual MS code even if they write their own code.
supergreg··on Show HN: Early-stage Yahoo Pipes spiritual successor
Yahoo Pipes was brilliant. I never saw it as programming but as an advanced feed configuration.
supergreg··on The Blockstack Browser: A Gateway to a New, Decentralized Internet
I've been partial to IPFS since I first learn of it but I know there's a few competitors in this space. Is there anywhere with some comparisons of the technology and maybe popularity (since the more people, the more robust the network) of these projects?.
supergreg··on Show HN: Rxdb – A fast, reactive, client-side database
This is the problem Meteor had. They had this complex allow/deny configuration to see if the client has permission to run a query but it was impossible to get around all the edge cases. They started recommending not using it and instead call controllers that then would check server-side if the user has permission or not and return the data to sync to the client. Then every query client side is considered to have full read access to the data in it.
supergreg··on DocuSign email address database breached and used for phishing campaign
What do you do after you catch them? Is there any place to report them, maybe depending on which country they are based, or you simply stop doing business with them?
supergreg··on Author illustrates book using MS Paint after spending 10 years mastering it
For marketing? Wasn't the whole book made in paint? The marketing part is talking about the tool used.

Not much different from programmers saying their software was done in X language for marketing.

supergreg··on Accidentally Stopping a Global Cyber Attack
Pirates don't install security patches.
supergreg··on Accidentally Stopping a Global Cyber Attack
Ransomware authors could come up with better flags than registering a domain since anyone can do it. Why not do something like creating an ipns address in ipfs and check if it contains something? Nobody but them would be able to put content at that address and can be checked through multiple gateways.
