superdisk··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
Okay, so you acknowledge that orchestrated or not, the native populations of European countries are going extinct and ultimately are going to be replaced. Japan doesn't want that, as it's an existential issue for their nation. I would argue possibly THE most existential issue a nation can face.

I would personally argue that it IS orchestrated, as this massive change happened in 50 years after 1000+ years of no change, but it's not relevant to the actual outcome. Call it a racist conspiracy theory all you want, people are becoming immune to that strategy.

superdisk··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
Having the population shrink and just letting the wheels fall off is vastly superior to ethnically cleansing your own country by importing a bunch of foreigners. At least you can rebuild from the first scenario.
superdisk··on OpenAI is well positioned to fast-follow Jev
Why is everybody so obsessed with it? There are 2 Jev posts on the front page even now, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
superdisk··on Building a Linux GPU Driver for the M4 Mac Mini in One Month
Just posted code here: https://github.com/SuperDisk/asahi-plus-slop
superdisk··on A warning about 'model welfare'
This is what happens when a society stops believing in God.
superdisk··on Building a Linux GPU Driver for the M4 Mac Mini in One Month
I'm currently traveling but I'll post it tomorrow. That said, you could recreate it yourself by just cloning the Asahi repos and asking Astra to make it work on the M3. I followed along with Alyssa Rosenzweig's original series of articles and tried to reproduce the milestones that she did in the same order to sanity check the work. The whole thing took about a week.
superdisk··on Building a Linux GPU Driver for the M4 Mac Mini in One Month
Damn, I did exactly this already for the M3 and got it working. Was hoping to make a post about it but this kinda scoops it. Bravo!
superdisk··on GPT-6 Astra
I don't even put it in a container. I just yolo it. It hasn't done anything bad so far. My logic is that if it nukes my filesystem then I deserve it.
superdisk··on Paint.net 5.2 alpha now runs on Linux
Miguel de Icaza took that code and got it running on Mono back in the day, and a few months ago for kicks I compiled it and it still runs. Quite buggy though.
superdisk··on Develop Cross-Platform CLI and GUI Tools with Tcl/Tk
The industry standard VFX compositing tool Nuke also uses Tcl for its expressions and save format, it's all Tcl terms as I recall. My brother did VFX for a while and I was amused when he was having some trouble with an expression and I was like "it's a Tcl system... I know this" and helped him.
superdisk··on Transfer files over an Ethernet patch cable
I used to do this to play Minecraft with my cousin without a router.
superdisk··on Don't use musl if you care about performance
I swear "bifrost" has to be the most overused name in computing, possibly only behind "yggdrasil." I'm not sure what's so magnetic about those names but I've seen at least 10 different things called that.
superdisk··on U.S. State Department pauses immigrant visa applications
I've been waiting over a year trying to get my wife into the country. Looks like I'll be waiting even longer now. The US immigration system is just so utterly cruel and broken.
superdisk··on Asahi Linux Progress Report: Linux 7.2
> It is the opinion of the Board that Large Language Models (LLMs), herein referred to as Slop Generators, are unsuitable for use as software engineering tools, particularly in the Free and Open Source Software movement.

superdisk··on Coding expertise is going to collapse from AI reliance
If you actually look at Cobol job listings, they pay like 50k and want a master's degree. The myth of them being paid really well is not true at all.
superdisk··on CIA funding helped keep NeXT afloat in the 80s
Not sure why this is immediately flagged and buried, there's actual evidence for it. People need to stop being so uptight.
superdisk··on Browser De-Slop
It's really not that intellectually lazy. When you're stuck in the quagmire of daily driving (modern) Windows you almost don't even notice how bad it is, but after being away from it you can come to see how truly patronizing, obnoxious, and asinine the whole OS has become. You get to a point where you see people getting screwed by Windows and complaining about it, and you just think "you're doing this to yourself."
superdisk··on Ask HN: Alternatives to GitHub
Mostly a toy, but I made https://dumbforge.dev which is intended for hosting public repos without setting up a daemon or forge at all.
superdisk··on Why does Opus 5 feel worse to work with?
So true. The breaking point for me was when it was constantly saying to wrap up because we'd done enough work for the day, but we had barely even done anything. Or constantly estimating that the next steps would take X number of weeks, and then knock it out in a single prompt. I demanded in no uncertain terms to stop giving pointless bogus estimates or telling me to stop working, and it just wouldn't. I also had a project I wanted to let it cook on overnight (a codebase port from Java to C++) and laid out a set of hard and fast rules that it could absolutely not break at any cost. Then I woke up the next day and it had broken all the rules and was just taking shortcuts left and right, and then lying to my face about it, even when I could point to concrete examples.

I cancelled the sub instantly and went to Codex and it's never let me down.

superdisk··on Mea Culpa – Dark Hours
Isn't this post him showing remorse? There's really no reason to burn the guy at the stake.
superdisk··on TinyNES Review – A Super Niche NES Console
It's kind of a shame to destroy original machines for chips isn't it? Especially when clone manufacturers have been putting out NOAC clones for decades.
superdisk··on Karpathy’s Pelican
Heh, tried it and got a story about raiding trash starring Pip. But yep, I'm well aware of this problem as well. /r/sillytavernAI is a sub dedicated to trying to coax LLMs into good creative writing but it's kinda impossible to do consistently.
superdisk··on Dubious research tied to Red Bull has shaped energy drink policy
I was exaggerating a bit, but afaik none of the ingredients in that list are any kind of mysterious harmful ingredient specific to energy drinks. That's all pretty normal soft drink stuff, plus the carnitine and tartrate which are not very exotic supplements.
superdisk··on Dubious research tied to Red Bull has shaped energy drink policy
I really don't know why people go so nuts over energy drinks. People casually chug coffee like crazy and then act like you're drinking nuclear waste when you drink a monster, and then you look at the ingredients list and it's like

- Water - Sugar - Vitamin B - Caffeine

and the caffeine is basically equivalent to one cup of coffee.

superdisk··on Htmx 4.0, the first JavaScript library to release exclusively on the Game Boy
Haha, awesome. And I like all the wacky Mario Land 2 references :)
superdisk··on Htmx 4.0, the first JavaScript library to release exclusively on the Game Boy
Did you use the built in GB studio sound engine? If so that's my code :) Always enjoyable when it pops up in places like this. Looks like a fun project.
superdisk··on Learn OpenGL, extensive tutorial resource for learning Modern OpenGL
The best selling game of all time (Minecraft) is basically GL 1.1. You really don't need much.
superdisk··on Jack Dorsey launches Buzz to combine team chat, AI agents and Git hosting

Elaborate? Legitimately curious

superdisk··on Show HN: I replaced a $120k bowling center system with $1,600 in ESP32s
Are you getting any customers?
superdisk··on Minecraft: Java Edition now uses SDL3
You can compile in only the used stuff with various build flags, not sure if they did that though. I've done that before to make a pared down SDL that only does audio playback.
