sunkan··on I'm a cargo cult programmer, help me
plinkplonk - I respect your opinion, so asking this question in earnest. Mind pointing to the best advice in the thread? I could look at the most up-voted answer, but group think is not always right.
sunkan··on Good designer shops (in India)?
Checkout http://www.uberflock.com. I have worked with them for some of the mobile apps we developed and they are awesome. My contact is in my profile, I can make an intro if you need one.
sunkan··on Ask HN: Startup from icy centre of Canada hoping to meet SV Hackers and YC Alum
You should definitely visit Hackerdojo.com. YC offices are also a couple of blocks from there.
sunkan··on Ask HN: Hourly rates? (iOS)
I run a boutique consultancy primarily focussed on mobile apps(iOS, Android and Blackberry) and we currently charge $100/hr. I have a feeling that we undercharge, but so far our numbers are working out, so not complaining.
sunkan··on Where can I meet a cool and smart co-founder in the SF Bay area?

http://wiki.hackerdojo.com/ -- Great volunteer run CoWorking space in Mountain View. Hope this helps.

sunkan··on Ask HN: What company were you at when the dot-com bubble burst in mid 2000?
I was working at E.piphany ( Steve Blank was one of the founder). I remember going through three rounds of layoffs in three months in the professional services organization, which I was part of. Good old days :)
sunkan··on Do It Yourself Masters in Financial Engineering
Wow! Has anyone else achieved this level of efficiency in their reading?

-- 10-20 minutes per book? -- 20 to 30 books in a few hours.

I am a bit skeptical, but maybe it is doable. I am curios to know if anyone else on HN can read/comprehend a non-fiction business book in less than 30 mins.

I went ahead and ordered '10 days to faster reading'.

sunkan··on Outsourcing mobile client dev
I could potentially help you, I run a boutique mobile dev company http://www.mokriya.com, but our rates aren't comparable to outsourcing firms, since we are based in US. My contact info is in my profile, if you want to contact.

I think the secret to success with getting outsourced work done properly is constant communication. Make them upload the work weekly to a github account. If you engage someone and he/she hasn't produced anything for more than 2 to 3 weeks, he is unlikely to produce anything in the future.

sunkan··on Ask HN: anyone here founded a company in the US while on F1 student visa?
Here is someone that did this, figured it might be helpful for you.

sunkan··on The answer to "Will you mentor me?" is...No.
Thanks to this article, I had the opportunity to read your other articles on your blog related to programming and sundry. You sir, are my new hero :). No, I am not going to ask you to mentor me, but after ten years in the Enterprise world, went from a not-so-good developer/techie to a paper-pushing, email-sending Ninja of a manager(good one at that) :).

Got tired of it and am back to doing something on my own, which involves actually writing code. There are days that I have doubts about whether I am really any good at this. But I need to work harder and persist, which I never did before.

sunkan··on Offer HN: Grab lunch with the photos team at Facebook
The idea is intriguing. I have no reason to meet you guys, but hoping some serendipitous goodness will rub off from meeting some very talented hackers. Count me in, if you still have spots open.
sunkan··on It's time to put the brakes on red-light cameras
I am one of those victims. Not only paid $550 and another 8hrs of my life trying to deal with it in the court unsuccessfully. All for not coming to a complete stop before taking the right turn. Live and learn :)
sunkan··on The first step is to start
I probably shouldn't be admitting it here, but I quit my job, got started and the whole bookkeeping, accounting thing is still a mess. But everything else, getting customers and delivering them what they need is going flawlessly. I am much more stressed out than I was when I was working at a job, but this stress feels good in a strange sort of way.

I need to get my paperwork side of things in order. Any recommendations for a good bookkeeper/accountant in Bay Area?

Basically my point is that you don't have to have everything aligned and perfect to get started. I think there will always be chaos and a bit of disorder, but you just have to keep ploughing through and things will fall in place.

sunkan··on How We Recruit - On Formal Credentials vs Experience-based Education
Very interesting. Check out the video in this link where he further expounds on what was written in the blog.

Also the comments in the link above give a good perspective on the positives and negatives of such an approach.
