sunebeck··on LA’s new trains have not lessened the time spent stuck in traffic
You can argue that it's not the "fault" of mass transit, but anyway you don't have to plan as much for taking an Uber, giving it an advantage over the bus.
sunebeck··on Translating the Cyberpunk Future
The typeface they used and can be seen in the screenshot at the end of the article makes the schwa look almost like a regular a.
sunebeck··on On-Line Pizza Idea Is Clever but Only Half-Baked (1994)
It'd be easier if that's just factored into the price.
sunebeck··on On-Line Pizza Idea Is Clever but Only Half-Baked (1994)
Used to be normal in Denmark, but it's so much easier to prepay.
sunebeck··on A day in the life of a Danish forensic pathologist
The comment has since been edited to show 'Denmark' instead.
sunebeck··on Using Gooey as a Universal Front End for Any Language or CLI Application
I wouldn't wanna let it probe 'rm' :D

Perhaps the probing could happen in a VM / container image which would reset after each invocation.

sunebeck··on Teletext Holidays left 200k customer call recordings exposed
This is supposed to be contrasted with an operator asking for the credit card digits manually, leaving room for them to scribble down the card number.

The DTMF system is so that the computer receives the card number directly. Of course that could be done with speech recognition as well.

And in any case, as others have pointed out, a phone connection is not a secured line.

But then again, a credit card fraud incident isn't the end of the world either. So maybe the risk is acceptable.

sunebeck··on YouTube video has its own URL in it
What an odd video!
sunebeck··on FBI, ICE using state driver’s license photos for facial-recognition searches
Anecdotally, FindFace found my Russian friend's VK.com profile (amongst many millions of such profiles) as the number one hit after I took a picture of her in a bar and submitted it to their face recognition service.
sunebeck··on Speedy Desktop Apps with GTK and Rust
Oh, I see - I take my comment back then :-)
sunebeck··on Why Didn’t Denmark Sell Greenland?
I lived there for 5 years.
sunebeck··on The New Austrian Railways' Intercity and Nightjet Sleeper Train Interior Design
Berlin AB ticket (for Tegel airport), EUR 2.80.

Berlin ABC ticket (for Schönefeld airport), EUR 3.40.

sunebeck··on An ‘extraordinarily severe’ emergency: the radioactive leak at Harborview
I wonder why they named the picture 'Tsjernobyl-1.jpg'.

sunebeck··on How to reduce the file size of large background images by over 93%
Reminds me of this: https://jmperezperez.com/svg-placeholders/
sunebeck··on Tesla issues strongest statement yet blaming driver for deadly crash
There are Teslas in many countries around the world, and autopilot is marketed as a feature in those as well.

About the US train network, it's good for freight but passenger trains are slow.

sunebeck··on China to bar people with bad 'social credit' from planes, trains
It is not difficult to make a passport reader, and the Chinese are definitely capable of that.

You can read the contents of the RFID chip using $100 off-the-shelf hardware, and the decryption key is the OCR string on the “main” page of the passport.

The piece of glass where you lay the passport, the OCR, and the case itself I’m sure any Chinese contractor could easily do as well.

sunebeck··on HUI.js JavaScript Re-Usable UI Library
It means dick.
sunebeck··on Professional Dress Code Tips
I read this as satire.
sunebeck··on Deep Learning AI Listens to Machines for Signs of Trouble
Would be nice to implement for hard drives to catch them failing before they do!
