subleq··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (July 2026)
Fusionbox | Python + TypeScript Engineers | United States | Full-time | REMOTE (US-only)

We're a software engineering consultancy that builds enterprise software the right way. We negotiate the right to open source all our client code, maintain a handful of popular libraries, and our engineers contribute to Django core. We sponsor PyCon, DjangoCon, and Django Girls because we're invested in the ecosystem we build on.

We're looking for software engineers who value software design, system architecture, and collaboration. You should be strong in most of these areas: web application security, relational database design (PostgreSQL query plans, indexes, and constraints, not whatever the ORM emits), Django internals, React, and distributed systems. What you'll actually work on: complex state machines for financial workflows, multi-tenant architectures with row-level security, custom database functions when the ORM isn't enough, and React frontends that handle real-time data without being a mess of useEffect race conditions.

A note on how we work: we think deeply about the systems we build, and we believe understanding comes from doing the work yourself, not from handing it to a model. If you ship code you don't understand, we're genuinely not a fit, and that's fine. If that paragraph made you nod, we want to hear from you.

We're a small team where you'll own features end-to-end (database design to React components) and have opportunities to shape technical decisions. You'll work with a team that practices empathy and values work-life balance. If you've ever wished your job involved more elegant state machines and fewer marketing landing pages, let's talk: info@fusionbox.com.

Fusionbox | Python + TypeScript Engineers | United States| Full-time | REMOTE (Legal to work in the US)

You should be comfortable with about half of these areas and eager to learn the rest: web application security, relational database design (PostgreSQL, beyond "SELECT *..."), Django internals, React, and distributed systems. What you'll actually work on: complex state machines for financial workflows, multi-tenant architectures with row-level security, custom database functions when the ORM isn't enough, and React frontends that handle real-time data without being a mess of useEffect hooks.

We're a small team where you'll own features end-to-end (database design to React components) and have opportunities to shape technical decisions. You'll get paid to write open-source code with a team that practices empathy and values work-life balance. If you've ever wished your job involved more elegant state machines and fewer marketing landing pages, let's talk: info@fusionbox.com.

subleq··on Every V4 UUID
Can you solve this in general without doing integer linear programming? How else would you know how to find the lowest index greater than the current? In the field GF(2), using 0 might not minimize.
subleq··on Moving a billion Postgres rows on a $100 budget
You can stream CSV without writing it to a disk.
subleq··on How do databases execute expressions?
Did the switch? Does postgres use a VM now?
subleq··on What if OpenDocument used SQLite? (2014)
It’s exactly what transactions are for. A nested transaction is called a savepoint, which sqlite does support.
subleq··on ChatGPT simulates 1987 BBS System
A 1987 BBS would not ask for an email address, would it?
subleq··on Show HN: Recursive LLM Prompts
This is just iteration. Tail recursion is equivalent to iteration.
subleq··on Introducing react.dev
react-query basically converts promises to hooks
subleq··on Migrating from AWS to Fly.io
I'd trust a first-party managed postgres built by fly more than a third-party one.
subleq··on User settings, Lamport clocks and lightweight formal methods
A failing test can only prove the existence of a bug. A passing test can not prove that there are no bugs.
subleq··on Historical weather data API for machine learning, free for non-commercial
Would flac work for compression? Given the weather data is a time series of numbers it could be represented as audio. It would then automatically do the difference encoding thing you’re doing.

If you encoded nearby grid cells as audio channels, flac would even handle the correlation like it does for stereo audio.

Fusionbox | Denver, CO | REMOTE | Senior software engineer

Fusionbox is a software engineering agency. Some notes about us:

- We solve different types of problems every day - We think software design and system architecture are important - We embrace collaboration and education - We legally reserve the right to release all code we write to the Open Source community - We maintain several open source libraries and all our engineers contribute to open source regularly

Python expertise is required and Django experience strongly preferred. Email info@fusionbox.com

subleq··on Where's the fastest place to put my server? How much does it matter?
> regional replicas

For a read-dominated access pattern that sounds quite interesting.

subleq··on Where's the fastest place to put my server? How much does it matter?
I'd rather have my app and databases servers together, and let a separate CDN like Cloudfront handle cacheable responses and assets. Much simpler than trying to distribute the application itself.
subleq··on Where's the fastest place to put my server? How much does it matter?
The applications I work on do several database calls for single user HTTP request. Shouldn't the application server be as close as possible to the database, rather than to the user? I struggle to think of an example where your model is useful, unless your application has no database.
subleq··on Select Wat from SQL
Yes, user is a reserved word and `SELECT user` gives you the current database user. Notice how in the create table "user" is quoted, because it would be a syntax error otherwise. If you quote the same way in the select it will give you the user column, not the user reserved word:

    select "user", password from users;
